Before Using the Product
This chapter provides information you should know before using the product.
About the Terminal
The CTP-4D is a differential input conversion terminal for the CNT32-4MT(CB), CNT32-4MT(LPCI),
a 32-bit high-speed up/down counter card manufactured by CONTEC.
The CTP-4D enables differential input by being connected between the CNT32-4MT(CB),
CNT32-4MT(LPCI) and a differential input device. (The CTP-4D requires a CNT-68M/50M optional
cable for connection with the CNT32-4MT(CB), CNT32-4MT(LPCI).)
< Example >
Features
Differential input enabled with the CNT32-4MT(CB), CNT32-4MT(LPCI).
Capable of differential input by connection to the CNT32-4MT(CB), CNT32-4MT(LPCI).
Designed to be compact to stay out of the way on the desktop.
Small terminal box available by the side a notebook PC.
Highly portable as the cable is connector-removable.
Lightweight design based on the aluminum housing
Lightweight aluminum housing contributing to portability
Easy to replace the PCI bus board CNT32-8M(PCI)
Connecting the CTP-4D to the CNT32-4MT(CB), CNT32-4MT(LPCI) provides the equivalent interface
to the CNT32-8M(PCI). Using a half-pitch 96-pin connector designed with pin compatibility (*1)

Setting the Control Output Signals
One control output signal is available per channel.
For the output signal for each channel, you can select the output logic (positive or negative) and the
TTL-level/open-collector output type. Select them depending on the specifications of the external
device to be connected.
Setting Method
Use bits 1 - 4 of the DIP switch (SW1) on the terminal to set the output signal logic and bits 5 - 8 to set
the output type. Set SW1 according to the figure shown below.
Note that the bit positions in the DIP switch illustrated below are factory defaults.
Figure 2.2. Setup the output signal (SW1)
Although the output logic is set with SW1 on the CTP-4D, it can also be set by software on the
CNT32-4MT(CB), CNT32-4MT(LPCI) side. Check the table below as the output logic varies
with settings.

How to Connect the Counter Input
Connecting the Counter Input
Connect the counter input to the differential output circuit of a rotary encoder or linear scale. The
maximum input frequency is 10 MHz.
For a two-phase input, connect both phase A and phase B. For a single phase input, connect to either
phase A or phase B. If not using the Z phase, this does not need to be connected.
You can select whether to use the terminator.
