About this Guide
This guide describes the DTPTSW4HD4K switcher and discusses how to install,
configure, and operate it.
In this guide, the terms “switcher”, “transmitter” and “switching transmitter” refer to the
DTPTSW4HD4K switcher.
About the DTPTSW4HD4K Switcher
The DTPTSW4HD4K is a four input HDMI switcher with a DTP output capable of
switching and extending HDMI signals up to 330feet (100meters). It is an HDCP compliant
switcher, that supports video resolutions up to 4K@30Hz at 4:4:4, or 4K@60Hz at 4:2:0
sub-sampling, including 1080p@60Hz Deep Color, as well as data rates up to 10.2Gbps,
3D, Lip Sync, and HD lossless audio formats. The switcher features four HDMI inputs, with
a DTP/HDBase-T (DTP/HDBT) output, so it can be integrated into many applications that
use a DTP equipped receiver or HDBase-T capable products. For easy integration, remote
power is available via the DTP output.
The DTPTSW4HD4K switcher can be controlled via the front panel, the RS-232
interface, USB, or contact closure. Inputs can be selected by pressing the front
panel buttons, enabling auto-input switching, attaching a jumper or a contact
closure device to the contact port, entering Simple Instruction Set (SIS) commands
or Extron Product Configuration Software (PCS) via USB. The switcher also features contact
and tally ports, used in tandem with Extron ShowMe cables. Additionally, two auxiliary
contact and tally ports are available for control and monitoring of peripheral devices, such

unauthorized power supply voids all regulatory compliance certification and may
cause damage to the supply and the end product.
If not provided with a power supply, this product is intended to be supplied by a
power source marked “Class 2” or “LPS” and rated at 12VDC and a minimum of
1.5A.
12 Vcc, 1.5 A minimum.
The installation must always be in accordance with the applicable provisions of
National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70, article 725 and the Canadian Electrical
Code part 1, section 16. The power supply shall not be permanently fixed to building
structure or similar structure.
structure similaire.
Power supply voltage polarity is critical. Incorrect voltage polarity can damage the
power supply and the unit. The ridges on the side of the cord (see figure3 on the
previous page) identify the power cord negative lead.
To verify the polarity before connection, plug in the power supply with no load and
check the output with a voltmeter.
The length of the exposed (stripped) copper wires is important. The ideal length is
3/16inch (5mm). Longer bare wires can short together. Shorter wires are not as
secure in the connectors and could be pulled out.
Unless otherwise stated, the AC/DC adapters are not suitable for use in air handling
spaces or in wall cavities.
Remote power is intended for indoors use only. No part of a network that uses
remote power can be routed outdoors.

ATTENTION:
Do not use Extron UTP23SF-4 Enhanced Skew-Free AV UTP cable or STP201
cable to link the switching transmitter and receiver.
DTP.
Supported cables
DTPTSW4HD4Kis compatible with shielded twisted pair (STP) and unshielded twisted
pair (U/UTP) cable. However, Extron strongly recommends that you use STP cable to
achieve best performance.
Cable recommendations
Extron recommends using the following practices to achieve full transmission distances up
to 330feet (100meters) and reduce transmission errors.
Use the following ExtronXTPDTP24STP cables and DTP24 connectors for the best
performance:
XTPDTP24/1000 Non-Plenum 1000 feet (305 meters) spool
XTPDTP24P/1000 Plenum 1000 feet (305 meters) spool
XTPDTP24 Plug Package of 10
If not using XTPDTP24 cable, at a minimum, Extron recommends 24AWG, solid
conductor, STP cable with a minimum bandwidth of 400MHz.
Terminate cables with shielded connectors to the TIA/EIA-T568B standard.
Use no more than two pass-through points, which may include patch points, punch
down connectors, couplers, and power injectors. If these pass-through points are
required, use Category 6 or 6a shielded couplers and punch down connectors.
NOTE: When using TP cable in bundles or conduits, consider the following:
Do not exceed 40% fill capacity in conduits.
Do not comb the cable for the first 65feet (20meters), where cables are
straightened, aligned, and secured in tight bundles.
Loosely place cables and limit the use of tie wraps or hook-and-loop fasteners.
Separate twisted pair cables from AC power cables.

Auto-Input Switching
The DTPTSW4HD4K switcher can automatically select the active, connected input
based on detection of an active video signal (TMDS clock activity). If two or more inputs are
active, the highest-numbered input port with an active signal is selected. When auto-input
switching is in effect, the green Auto Switch LED on the front panel (see figure7,
A
on
page13) lights and the front panel input buttons are disabled.
To enable auto-input switching:
1. Cut a small piece of wire to use as a jumper.
2. Insert the ends of the wire into the two pins of the provided 2-pole captive
screw connector, connecting pins 1 and 2 together.
3. Use a small screwdriver to tighten the two screws above pins of the
connector so that the jumper wire ends remain securely in place (see
diagram on the right).
4. Insert the connector into the 2-pole Auto captive screw port on the rear
panel (see figure2,
H
on page5).
Auto-input switching remains in effect as long as the jumper wire connects the
two Auto pins of the 2-pole captive screw.
Securing the HDMI Connector
Follow these instructions to secure the input connectors to the switcher with the LockIt
HDMI lacing bracket provided:
1. Plug the HDMI cable into the rear panel connection.
2. Loosen the HDMI connection mounting screw
from the panel enough to allow the LockIt
lacing bracket to be placed over it. The screw
does not have to be removed.
3. Place the LockIt lacing bracket on the screw
and against the HDMI connector, then tighten
the screw to secure the bracket.
ATTENTION:
Do not overtighten the connector
mounting screw. The shield it
fastens to is very thin and can
easily be stripped.
Ne serrez pas trop la vis de
montage du connecteur. Le
blindage auquel elle est attachée
est très fin et peut facilement être
dénudé.
4. Loosely place the included tie wrap around the HDMI connector and the LockIt lacing
bracket as shown.
5. While holding the connector securely against the lacing bracket, tighten the tie wrap,
then remove any excess length.
