Phone Views
Your Polycom VVX 501/601 Business Media Phone has four main views: Home, Calls, Active Call, and
Lines (default). You can access the Home and Lines view at any time. If your phone has one or more calls,
you can also access Calls or Active Calls.
Press from any menu for the Home view.
Press to alternate between the Home and Line views.
Home View
The Home view displays icons you can select to access phone functions.
Touch and hold the Page Indicator (below) to display more or fewer icons. You can also swipe the screen
to display more icons.
Touch the phone line to display your phone lines and Favorites (below) on the Home view. Touch Close to
go back.

Lines View
The Line view displays phone lines, favorites, and soft keys. You can press the Line key to access the
dialer if your phone is idle. Swipe to switch between the Lines view and the browser (if enabled).
Active Call View
You can access the Active Call view if your phone only has one active call.
Calls View
You can access the Calls view if your phone has one or more calls. Touch a call to select it. The soft keys
control the selected call.
Call color indicates status:
Dark green active call
Dark blue incoming and held
calls
Bright green active call is
selected
Bright blue incoming or held call
is selected

Contact Directory
Press to select a contact from the Contact Directory.
View Directory - select Directories from the Home view. Touch Contact Directory on the
Directory screen.
Add Contact - navigate to your Contact Directory and touch . Type the contact’s information
and touch Save. To make a contact a Favorite, enter a Favorite Index number.
Update Contact Info - navigate to your Contact Directory and touch the contact. Touch ,
update the contact’s information, and touch Save.
Delete a Contact - navigate to your Contact Directory and touch the contact. Touch , and then
touch Yes to confirm.
Search for a Contact - navigate to your Contact Directory and touch Search. Enter search
criteria, and touch Search again.
Dial a contact from your Directory - navigate to your Contact Directory and select the contact.
Select the contact’s phone number.
Favorites
Favorites are contacts to which you want quick access. Your Favorites list displays all of your Favorites. A
smaller number of Favorites displays in the Lines view and when you touch the phone line from the Home
view.
View Your Favorites List - touch New Call from the Home view, and then touch Favorites.
Make a Contact a Favorite - navigate to your Contact Directory and touch the contact. Touch Add to
Favorites, and then touch Yes to confirm.
Dial a Favorite - touch the Favorite from the Home or Lines view, or from your Favorites list.
Reorder Your Favorites List - update the contact’s Favorite Index number in the Contact Directory.
Tip: A indicates a Favorite.

Call Functions
Enter Data
1. Use the onscreen keyboard or dial pad keys to enter information.
2. Touch to backspace.
3. Touch to use the onscreen keyboard.
4. Press a key repeatedly to view the character options and type with the dial pad keys.
5. Press Encoding or Mode to type other characters.
6. Use the 1, *, 0, and # keys when using the dial pad keys.
About Calls
Only one call can be active at a time. You can use the handset, speakerphone, or headset for calls.
1. Change modes during a call by picking up the handset, or pressing or .
2. Press to see the active call or the Calls view If you navigate away from your call(s).
Tip: If you navigate away from your call(s), touch to see the Active or Calls view.
Place Calls
1. Pick up the handset, or press or .
2. Enter the phone number and touch .
3. From Lines viewtouch the phone line, enter the phone number, and touch .
4. From Home viewtouch New Call, enter the phone number, and touch .
Answer Calls
Speakerphone - press or touch Answer.
Handset - pick up the handset.
Headset - press .
To answer a new call while on an active call, touch Answer. The current call is held.
End Calls
To end an active call, replace the handset, press , , or touch End Call.
To end a held call, highlight the held call in the Calls view, touch Resume, and then touch End Call.
Hold Calls
1. Select the call from the Calls or Active Call view and touch Hold.

2. Touch Resume from the Lines or Calls view to resume the call.
Transfer Calls
1. Touch Transfer from the Lines, Calls, or Active Call view.
2. Call the other party.
3. When you hear the ring back sound or talk with the other party, touch Transfer.
Forward Calls
Enable call forwarding - touch Forward from the Home or Lines view. Select the forwarding type
to enable, enter the number, and touch Enable.
Disable call forwarding - touch Forward from the Home or Lines view, select the forwarding type
to disable, and then touch Disable.
Enable per-call forwarding - touch Forward as your phone rings, enter the forwarding number,
and touch Forward again.
Adjust Call Volume
Press during a call to change the call volume.
Press when the phone is idle or ringing to change the ringer volume.
Mute
1. Press during a call so other parties cannot hear you.
2. Press again to disable Mute. This applies to calls using the handset, headset, and
speakerphone.

Recent Calls
1. Touch Directories from the Home view.
2. Touch Recent Calls.
3. Touch to display only certain calls.
4. Touch a call record to call the person.
Timesaver: Touch from the Lines, Calls, or Active Call view.
Conference Calls
1. Call the first party.
2. Touch Confrnc after it connects.
3. Dial and connect with the second party and touch Confrnc again.
Touch Hold to hold all participants.
Touch End Call to remove yourself from the call but keep the other participants connected.
Touch Manage (if available) to manage each participant.
Touch Split to end the conference and hold all participants.
Timesaver: Touch Join to set up a conference if you have an active and held call.
Voice Mail
1. Touch Messages from the Home view.
2. Touch Message Center.
3. Touch Connect and follow the prompts.
Timesaver: Touch from the Lines, Calls, or Active Call view.

Do Not Disturb
You can enable/disable ringing with Do Not Disturb.
Touch DND from the Home or Lines view to enable Do Not Disturb. When Do Not Disturb is enabled,
displays in the status bar (you can touch DND again to disable it).
Update Ringtones
1. Touch Settings from the Home view to change the incoming call ringtone.
2. Touch Basic > Ring Type.
3. Select the ringtone you want.
4. To set a ringtone for a contact, navigate to your Contact Directory and touch the contact.
5. Touch .
6. Update the contact’s Ring Type.
7. Touch Save.
