Simplicity 1691791 TURBO Clean Sweep Twin Catcher is designed to make lawn care a breeze. RECOMMENDED ACCESSORIES

Front counterweight is recommended when using rear-

mounted crass catcher. On slopes over 15% (8.5

), use

two rear wheel weights in addition to front counterweight.

Always mow up and down the face of slopes, never

across the face. Never mow on slopes greater than 30%

NOTE: In these instructions, “left” and “right” are

referred to as seen from the operating position.

Safety Rules

1. Know the tractor controls and how to stop quick-

ly. READ THE TRACTOR OPERATOR’S MANUAL.

2. Disengage the electric clutch (PTO). Shut off the

engine and wait for all moving parts to stop

before attaching, adjusting, or disconnecting any

part of the collection system.

3. Check the collection system to make sure it is

bolted tightly to the tractor.

4. Check the latch handle to make sure it is engaged

so the dump cart’s box is locked to the frame.

5. Look behind to make sure the area is clear before

backing up.

6. DO NOT turn sharply when travelling alongside a

building or any object.

7. DO NOT carry passengers on the tractor or in the

cart.

Read these safety rules, and the safety rules in your tractor Operator’s Manual, and follow them

closely. Failure to obey these rules could result in loss of control of vehicle, severe personal injury

to yourself, or damage to property or equipment. The triangle in the text signifies important cautions or

warnings which must be followed.

WARNING

When blower assembly is removed from the mower

deck, the deflector must be properly installed.

WARNING

If the mower stalls or the turbo blower chute plugs,

DISENGAGE THE ELECTRIC CLUTCH (PTO), STOP

THE ENGINE AND REMOVE THE KEY. SET THE

PARKING BRAKE. WAIT FOR MOVING PARTS TO

STOP. Remove the foreign object or clear the chute

with a piece of wood before restarting the engine.

Never place hands into blower housing to clear

jammed object. Blower may rotate when object is

removed.

WARNING

When operating on slopes, use front counter-

weight. Never operate on slopes greater than 30%

(16.7

WARNING

For added tractor stability and to prevent tipping or

loss of control:

a. Use reduced speed on uneven ground and when

turning corners.

b. Reduce loads on hillsides. It is recommended

that the collection system be kept only half full

when negotiating any slopes. Start mowing on

slopes when the collection system is empty.

c. Mow up and down the face of slopes; never

across the face of any slope.

WARNING

Objects may be thrown from the mower. For your

safety:

a. DO NOT remove the cover while the mower

blades are turning. Shut off the engine before

opening the door or removing the grass chute.

b. Be sure the complete collection system is in

place, cover secure and grass chute connected,

before operating the mower.

c. DO check the twin bag cover frequently for wear

and tear. Replace with a new cover as neces-

sary.

Operation, Storage, & Troubleshooting

BEFORE OPERATION

• Clear the lawn of all sticks, stones, wire and other

debris which may be caught or thrown by the mower

blades.

• Clean the tube with mild detergent (other products

may damage tube). Inspection windows can be

removed to be cleaned. Make sure windows are

securely in place before operating.

• Check grass condition. If wet, wait until later in the

day. If grass is wet, plugging may occur.

• For efficient bagging, air circulation under the mower

deck, through the chute and into the bag is very

important. For this reason, you should remove grass

and debris from underside of mower deck, discharge

chute and screen inside cover.

• The blower housing and tube should be removed for

cleaning. Remove the tube by unlatching the lower

tube clip from blower housing.

• If desired, the bags can be lined with 30 gallon trash

bags for easy disposal.

• Inspect the grass bags for wear or damage. Make

sure that there is a snug fit between mower deck,

blower housing, tubes and grass bag cover.

OPERATION

Grass should be cut often and not too short. If grass is

too long or lush it may be necessary to keep ground

speed to a minimum or to cut only half the width to pre-

vent clogging. If grass is high, operate with mower in

high cutting position. Cut the grass again in lower cutting

position, if desired.

To check if grass is flowing up tube, view tube through

rear inspection window. Do not open cover with mower

engaged.

To check if grass bags are full, reach back and feel top

of right bag (left bag will fill first) or view tube discharge

through front inspection window in cover.

If a large amount of cut grass is spilling out from under

deck, the tube may be plugged or grass bags are full.

Shut off tractor, disengage PTO and allow all moving

parts to stop before disconnecting tube.

Always operate with throttle at full speed to maximize

mowing and bagging performance.

EMPTYING THE BAGS

NOTE: Move the seat to the forward position and tilt up

to allow cover to remain in the “up” position.

Raise the cover. Unhook the bag and turn upside down

to empty (use handle on bottom).

STORAGE

1. Clean the grass catcher thoroughly.

2. If paint has been scratched on metal parts, coat with

paint or oil.

3. Store in a dry area. Hang the bags to dry. Always

store away from moisture.

TROUBLESHOOTING

1. Leaves and grass not being completely picked

up.

A. Engine speed too slow. Run at full throttle.

B. Ground speed too fast. Use lower speed.

C. Discharge tube plugged. Stop engine and remove

key. Remove and unplug discharge tube.

D. Blades not tight. Tighten to proper torque.

E. Mower not level. See tractor Operator’s Manual for

mower levelling procedure.

F. Belt slipping. See tractor Operator’s Manual for

adjustment.

2. Grass catcher discharge tube or mower plugs

easily.

A. Bags are full. Empty bags.

B. Grass too high. Reduce tractor ground speed,

reduce cutting width or raise mower adjustment for

the first pass, lower for the second pass.

C. Grass or leaves too wet. Wait for dry conditions.

D. Build-up of cut grass in mower or adapter. Clean

thoroughly.

E. Screen in grass bag cover clogged. Remove cover

and clean screens.

F. Belt slipping. See tractor Operator’s Manual for

adjustment.

G. Engine not running at full throttle. Use hydro or

gear lever to control ground speed and keep

engine at full throttle.

WARNING

For safety reasons, grass and debris are to be

removed only after engine is shut off, key removed

and all moving parts have stopped.

Before raising cover, shut off engine, remove key

and set parking brake.

INITIAL HITCH INSTALLATION

1. See Figure 1. Assemble spacers as shown with hard-

ware supplied. Use an additional small washer (B) on

the inside of the frame as shown.

NOTE: On early models it may be necessary to drill

spacer mounting holes in the frame. See Figures 2-4.

NOTE: 4000/5000/6000 series tractors do not require

installation of support bracket as shown in steps 2 or 3.

Proceed to step 4.

2. See Figure 5. On 6200/T-800 tractors, install support

with hardware shown.

3. On GTH/6500/1800 series tractors, check drawbar

mounting hardware (Figure 7). If flange nuts are

installed on drawbar, the 1" capscrews installed on

the outside holes must be replaced with 3/8-16 x 1-

1/4" capscrews.

If nuts and lockwashers are installed instead of push

nuts, 1-1/4" capscrews are already installed.

4. See Figure 8. Install collector hitch over capscrews

and secure with lockwashers and nuts.

5. Assemble bracket assembly as shown in Figure 4.

Do not tighten hardware at this time.

6. See Figure 9. Install bracket assembly onto frame

spacers as shown. Install clevis pin (C) through back

plate and drawbar and secure with spring clip (D).

7. Tighten all bracket hardware.

INITIAL CATCHER ASSEMBLY

NOTE: It may be easier to remove the cover for the fol-

lowing step. See Figure 9. Remove clip, clevis pin &

cover from support.

1. See Figure 10. Install horizontal bag support. Install

capscrews from front of bracket and tighten when

bracket and support are square.

Make sure open set of holes (D) are toward the dis-

charge side of the mower.

2. See Figure 9. Reinstall cover (A) to support (B) and

secure with clevis pins (C) and clips (D).

3. See Figure 11. Attach handle to rear surface of lid

with offset towards the rear.

4. See Figure 12. Open cover and fasten cable (A) to

support (B). The looped cable end fits over washer

(C).

5. Open grass bag cover and install grass bag frames

to support brackets. Make sure cover handle latches

to grass bag frames.

6. If you are using a turbo with the catcher, install it at

this time. Follow the instructions with the turbo.

INITIAL TUBE ASSEMBLY

Turbo Clean Sweep Catchers

1. See Figure 13. Install the bolt (A) and locknut (B)

through the inside of turbo housing discharge as

shown. Assemble the tube halves using the screws

(C), washers (D) and nuts (E).

2. Install the tube assy. into opening and fasten to blow-

er housing by latching lower tube clip (F) over bolt

(A).

NOTE: On 4200/612 models, drill a second set of 13/64"

holes , approximately 2-1/2" from the predrilled holes on

the lower tube end, to compensate for the shorter tractor

frame.

NORMAL REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Turbo Models

1. Disconnect the tubes from the turbo and catcher (see

Figure 14).

2. Remove the turbo (see Turbo Operator’s Manual).

3. Move the mower deflector into mowing position.

4. If desired, remove the cover (A, Figure 15) from the

catcher by removing the clevis pin (C) and clip (D).

5. Remove the bags from the collector.

6. Remove the pin securing the collector to the drawbar.

7. Remove the collector from the tractor (see FIgure

16). Install in reverse order of removal.

INITIAL BAFFLE INSTALLATION -

NON-TURBO MODELS

NOTE: Units equipped with anti blow-out baffles do not

require the Clean Sweep baffle. The anti blow-out baffle

works in it’s place. Discard the Clean Sweep baffle.

1. Remove the mower deck.

2. Position the baffle with the notched end towards the

discharge side opening. The notch at the discharge

side of baffle must be positioned to clear stone guard

weldment.

3. Secure the baffle using the hardware shown in Figure

17. Tighten hardware at the discharge side of baffle

first, then middle location hardware, and lastly inside

hardware.

INITIAL BLADE INSTALLATION -

NON-TURBO MODELS

See Figure 18.

1. Remove discharge side blade and retain the mount-

ing hardware.

2. Install the new high-lift blade with tabs facing up

towards underside of mower deck. Secure with exist-

ing hardware and torque capscrew (H) to 45-55 ft.

WARNING

Mower blades are sharp. For your personal safety,

do not handle mower blades with bare hands.

Careless or improper handling of blades may result

in serious injury.

WARNING

For your personal safety, blade mounting capscrews

must each be installed with a spring washer and hex

washer, then securely tightened. Torque blade mounting

capscrew to 45-55 ft. lbs. (61-75 N.m.)

14HP & 16HP Models

1. Using the 3/8-16 x 3” bolts (A, Figure 19) and lock-

washers (B) secure the hitch (C) to the rear of the

rider as shown.

2. Insert the catcher support (D) into the hitch.

18HP Models

1. Support the rear weights (E, Figure 20) with a floor

jack and remove and discard the capscrews (F)

securing the weights.

2. Bolt the hitch assembly (C) and rear weights (E) to

the rider using the 3/8-16 x 4 capscrews (A) and lock-

washers (B) provided.

ZT Series

INITIAL CATCHER ASSEMBLY

NOTE: It may be easier to remove the cover for the fol-

lowing step. See Figure 21. Remove clip, clevis pin &

cover from support.

1. See Figure 22. Install horizontal bag support. Install

capscrews from front of bracket and tighten when

bracket and support are square.

Make sure open set of holes (D) are toward the dis-

charge side of the mower.

2. See Figure 21. Reinstall cover (A) to support (B) and

secure with clevis pins (C) and clips (D).

3. See Figure 23. Attach handle to rear surface of lid

with offset towards the rear.

4. See Figure 24. Open cover and fasten cable (A) to

support (B). The looped cable end fits over washer

(C).

5. Open grass bag cover and install grass bag frames to

support brackets. Make sure cover handle latches to

grass bag frames.

6. If you are using a turbo with the catcher, install it at

this time. Follow the instructions with the turbo.

INITIAL TUBE ASSEMBLY

Non-Turbo Clean Sweep Catchers

1. Refer to Figure 27. Install the metal puck (A) in the

correct hole in the adapter and secure with a 5/16-18

x 3/4” thin-head capscrew and nylock nut.

2. See Figure 25. Connect the adapter (A) to the

mower deck and tighten wingnut (B)

3. Install discharge tube (E) into the hole in the catcher

assembly.

4. Attach the discharge tube (E) to the adapter (A) and

secure the tube by moving wire form (D) down over

metal puck (F).

Turbo Clean Sweep Catchers

1. See Figure 28. Install the bolt (A) and locknut (B)

through the inside of turbo housing discharge as

shown. Assemble the tube halves using the screws

(C), washers (D) and nuts (E).

2. Install the tube assy. into opening and fasten to blow-

er housing by latching lower tube clip (F) over bolt

(A).

NORMAL REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Non-Turbo Models

1. Rotate the wire form (D, Figure 30) and disconnect

the adapter (A) from the discharge tube (E) and

remove the tube from the catcher.

2. Loosen the wingnut (B, Figure 29) and disconnect the

adapter (A) from the mower deck.

3. Move the deflector (C, Figure 30) into mowing posi-

tion.

4. If desired, remove the cover (A, Figure 31) from the

catcher by removing the clevis pins and clips from the

hinges.

5. Remove the bags from the collector.

6. Remove the collector and support assembly (A,

Figure 31) from the hitch. The hitch can remain

attached to the rider.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Turbo Models

1. Disconnect the tubes from the turbo and catcher (see

Figure 32).

2. Remove the turbo (see Turbo Operator’s Manual).

3. Move the mower deflector into mowing position.

4. If desired, remove the cover (A, Figure 31) from the

catcher by removing the clevis pins and clips from the

hinges.

5. Remove the bags from the collector.

6. Lift the catcher and cover assembly up off the hitch.

The hitch can remain attached to the rider.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Regent / 500 / 2500 Series

INITIAL BAFFLE INSTALLATION -

NON-TURBO MODELS

NOTE: Units equipped with anti blow-out baffles do not

INITIAL BLADE INSTALLATION -

NON-TURBO MODELS

See Figure 34.

1. Remove discharge side blade and retain the mount-

ing hardware.

2. Install the new high-lift blade with tabs facing up

towards underside of mower deck. Secure with exist-

ing hardware and torque capscrew (H) to 50-70 ft.

lbs.

WARNING

Mower blades are sharp. For your personal safety,

do not handle mower blades with bare hands.

Careless or improper handling of blades may result

in serious injury.

WARNING

For your personal safety, blade mounting capscrews

must each be installed with a spring washer and hex

washer, then securely tightened. Torque blade mounting

capscrew to 45-55 ft. lbs. (61-75 N.m.)

INITIAL HITCH INSTALLATION

1. Assemble the upright (A, Figure 35) to the hitch (B)

using four capscrews (C), lockwashers (D), and nuts

(E) as shown. Do not tighten hardware at this time.

2. Install the upright and hitch assembly on the tractor

and secure with clevis pin (F) and clip (G).

3. Assemble the clevis (I), jam-nut, and J-hook (H).

4. Insert the J-hook into the hole in the rear of the

frame.

5. Adjust the length of the J-hook until it provides sup-

port and attach the clevis (I) to the upright (A) using a

yolk pin (J) and hair pin clip.

NOTE: Early models may require a 13/32” hole to be

drilled in the frame as shown in Figure 35.

6. Tighten all bracket hardware.

INITIAL CATCHER ASSEMBLY

NOTE: It may be easier to remove the cover for the fol-

lowing step. See Figure 36. Remove clip, clevis pin &

cover from support.

1. See Figure 37. Install horizontal bag support. Install

capscrews from front of bracket and tighten when

bracket and support are square.

Make sure open set of holes (D) are toward the dis-

charge side of the mower.

2. See Figure 36. Reinstall cover (A) to support (B) and

secure with clevis pins (C) and clips (D).

3. See Figure 38. Attach handle to rear surface of lid

with offset towards the rear.

4. See Figure 39. Open cover and fasten cable (A) to

support (B). The looped cable end fits over washer

(C).

5. Open grass bag cover and install grass bag frames

to support brackets. Make sure cover handle latches

to grass bag frames.

6. If you are using a turbo with the catcher, install it at

this time. Follow the instructions with the turbo.
