1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Product Description.
The RSL-350 is designed to include most of the standard low
wattage, medium- and mogul-base HID lamps currently
available.
The fixtures utilize a precision optical system to maximize post
spacings. Gaskets located above and below the refractor
create a sealed optical chamber.
The RSL-350 is designed to mount on a 3 inch O.D. post tenon.

2.2 Fixture Installation.
2.2.1 Place and level the luminaire on the post top tenon. See
Figure 1. If the unit is supplied with a photocontrol, the photo eye
should be oriented in a northerly direction. Alternate tightening of the
set screws will assist in leveling and insuring proper attachment of
the fixture. Tighten the set screws to 10-12 ft-lbs.
2.2.2 Remove the wire way cover by removing the two screws.
2.2.3 Standard Units: Connect the electrical supply wires to
the luminaire wires. Follow approved wiring techniques. Connect
incoming ground wire to ground wire attached to inside of wiring
chamber. Connect incoming common wire to wire marked COM
from the ballast. If a single voltage ballast is used, connect the
remaining wire to the incoming supply line. Note: Lead may need to
be stripped. If a multivolt ballast is used, find the correct voltage

number marked on one of the remaining wires and make the
connection. Carefully, place connections in wiring chamber for future
access. See Figure 1.
Twist Lock Photocontrol Units: See Figures 3. Connect
the electrical supply wires to the luminaire wires. Follow approved
wiring techniques. Connect incoming ground wire to ground wire
attached to inside of wiring chamber. Connect incoming common
wire to wire marked COM from the ballast. If a single voltage unit is
used, connect the black wire from the photocontrol to the incoming
line lead. If a multiple voltage ballast is used, connect the red lead
from the photocontrol to the appropriate voltage ballast lead.
Connect the black lead from the photocontrol to the incoming supply
line lead. Note: Lead may need to be stripped. Photocontrol Units:
Carefully, place connections in wiring chamber for future access.
2.2.4 Replace wire way cover. Reinstall and tighten screws.
2.2.5 Remove the two retaining nuts and remove the top cover by

2.2.6 Twist lock Photocontrol Units: Disconnect the
photocontrol electrical connector and remove the wires from the wire
support. See Figure 3
2.2.7 Install the proper lamp type. Tighten the lamp carefully but
securely.
OPTICS ORIENTATION NOTES
Some of the fixtures in this series are equipped with optical
components that produce distributions of light that are not symmetric
and are intended to be aimed by orienting the prismatic refractor a
specific direction. The “Street Side” marking on the refractor should
be pointed toward the street.
2.2.8 Orient the refractor by locating the markings on the refractor
flange. Position the “street side” marking toward the street and align
the “rib” marking with the ribs of the housing.
2.2.9 Twist lock Photocontrol Units: Place photocontrol
wires into wire support. Reconnect the photocontrol electrical
connector. See Figure 3
2.2.10 Re-install the top cover by placing it over the ribs and
aligning the holes in the top cover with the threaded studs on the
ribs. Reinstall the two retaining nuts.
2.2.11 Twist lock Photocontrol Units: Remove the
plastic cap from the top of the unit. Loosen two screws on the
photocontrol receptacle. Rotate the receptacle to point the arrow
marked “N” in a direction that is generally North. Tighten the two
screws on the photocontrol receptacle. Install a twist-lock type
photocontrol in to the receptacle.
2.2.12 Energize the fixture and check for proper operation.

3.2.3 Remove the lamp.
3.2.4 Remove refractor.
3.2.5 Loosen screws to wire way cover and remove wire way
cover.
3.2.6 Tag and disconnect common and line leads.
3.2.7 Loosen the two keyway screws and turn ballast plate
assembly clockwise to disengage. Remove the ballast assembly.
See Figure 2.
If a complete replacement electrical module is being used, skip
to step 3.2.10
3.2.8 Tag all leads that will be disconnected and note the
orientation and position of all components that will be replaced and
the fasteners holding them. Remove the component(s) to be
replaced.
3.2.9 Use components supplied by Holophane. Place the new
components exactly as were the original components and reuse the
original fasteners to secure them. Check for pinched wires before
tightening down the replacement components. Tighten all fasteners
firmly. Bundle and secure the wiring in a manner similar to the way it
was originally secured.
3.2.10 Set replacement ballast assembly down into casting.
Rotate counter clockwise and tighten the two keyway screws. See
Figure 2.
3.2.11 Reconnect electrical connections in accordance with tags
and approved wiring practices. Replace wire way cover. Tighten
screws.
3.2.12 Gently move ballast plate assembly to an upright position
and place the assembly over the two keyway screws and turn
counterclockwise into position. Tighten screws.
3.2.13 Replace the refractor. Orient the refractor by locating the
markings on the refractor flange. Position the “street side” marking
toward the street and align the “rib” marking with the ribs of the
housing.
3.2.14 Replace correct wattage and type lamp.
3.2.15 Twist lock Photocontrol Units: Place
photocontrol wires into wire support. Reconnect the photocontrol
