The METTLER TOLEDO CalcPac-M
The METTLER TOLEDO CalcPac-M is for arithmetically processing weights and numbers.
The system consists of a METTLER TOLEDO PM balance, the CalcPac-M applications package
and a printer (optional).
Features of the system:
Printout identification : identification number, data, time, code
Choice of decimal : fixed decimal point 0-6 places, exponential format,
places fixed decimal of balance
Basic operations : +, -, x, ÷,
, , 2x, 1/-, x
2
Statistics : +, -, n, X, s
complete totals printout
Constants : 4 contstants incl. operation sign storable
3 contstants can be protected against accidental alteration.
Dynamic calculation with multiplier constant F1 and current
display reading after disconnection of terminal.
To insert the program cassette
Caution: Power cable must be unplugged from balance.
Detach cover (3) from left-hand side of balance.
Now revealed is the standard cassette (2) fitted in the balance before delivery.
This must be replaced by the CalcPac-M program cassette.
Pull out grip of cassette about 2 cm (until it stops), then use grip to withdraw cassette
completely.
Insert CalcPac-M program cassette in the cassette guide, and push it right in.
Put on cover (3) and press home. If the cover will not snap in place, the program cassette
has not been pushed in fully.
Note: Please keep the standard cassette; it may be uweful when using the balance later
without CalcPac-M.
3
To connect the terminal and other units
The two receptacles at the rear of the balance are intended for the following equipment:
Upper receptacle : equipment with RS232C or CL interface, e.g. GA44 Printer (for
GA44 in configuration register, sector I-Face; select standard
setting: S.Stb, b 2400 and pause 1 s)
Lower receptacle (5) : terminal and GM units with adapter plug
The coding pins on the receptacles prevent incorrect connection.
To select date and printout
The configuration register of the program offers new possibilities allowing the CalcPac-M to be
ideally matched to features peculiar to the particular application. A difference from the standard
balance software is that in the -Unit- sector of the configuration file one can now select:
Date : EU-date = day, month, year = standard setting
US-date = month, day, year
Printout : Sel.Prot = automatic printout only for total, other printouts only with [PRINT]
key; = standard setting
Au-Prot = printout automatic on entry and with [PRINT] key.
Software identification
When the balance is switched on, the display shows, for example, this identification.
When a printer is connected, this is also printed out.

Functions of general system keys
Switch to secondary Execute a secondary function or
key function begin an entry: after the function is selected the corresponding lamp stays on until the entry is
terminated.
Result/Terminate key To terminate operations or entries.
Clear (erase) Erases all operations and displayed result. Balance returns to weighing mode.
However, constants F1 to F4, register, ID no., date, time and number of decimal places are
retained.
Clear entry Erases the number just entered, but not the operation chosen. Display shows the last entry or
the last result.
Weight transfer Transfers current weight to a calculation (e.g. [5] [x] [ ] [=] ).

Print out The displayed value is printed; time, date and identification only if entered. The [PRINT] key
cannot be used while entering.

Calculating with the CalcPac-M
The CalcPac-M can be used for processing weights and/or numbers.
Entries are made as with normal pocket calculators.
The displayed reading is processed. Entry is terminated with the operation keys [+] [-] [x] [÷] and the result key [=].
With entered and processed values and also “frozen” weights the balance display shows a * at top left. The result is displayed until a key is pressed
again. Return to weighing mode with [ ] or [C].

To enter, print and secure the constants F1 to F4
Using the function keys [F1] to [F4] it is possible to store constants, with or without their arithmetical sign (+, -, x, ÷), and process them together
with the current reading.
Function Key sequence (examples) Display Remarks
To enter constants [SET] [F1] Set F1 Standard setting: +0.0
[x] [1] [0] [=] * 10.00
Storage 161.83 g To store final and interim results
function [SET] [F4] [=] Set F4 (memory function).
* 161.83 g For this function it is best to use the [F4] key,
as its memory cannot be blocked with the
jumper (“secure” position). Values can thus
be stored at any time.
To print constants [SET] [PRINT] Current
and display reading
format
To secure con- [SET] [SAVE] Current The constants F1 to F4 can now also be
stants and dis- reading secured against power failure. On
play format completing the entry, constants F1 to F3
can be protected against accidental
change by setting the jumper. For
procedure, see “Configuring” in balance
operating instructions.

Dynamic processing of constant F1 with terminal
Having stored the constant F1 together with corresponding arithmetical operation signs, (+, -, x, :) the constant F1 with the according operation
sign can be processed dynamically together with the current weight.

constant F1

processing
With a new entry, dynamic processing is deactivated.

Err 0 Division by 0 Function not defined
Err 1 Time exceeded on entry Entry has not been completed in last 30 s or so, or a weight needed for processing has not
or value transfer been transferred.
Err 2 Root of a negative number Function not defined
Err 3 n > 99 for or - with n = 0 Number of summands > 99, or subtract a value from the total if total counter is at 0.
Err 4 Date or time not complete Date: terminate entry of day and month with [.].
EU date: DD.MM.YY
US date: MM.DD.YY
Time: terminate entry of hours and minutes with [.].
Err 5 Alteration of constants F1 to F3 Constants F1 to F3 cannot be redefined unless the jumper is in the “unsecured” position.
with jumper in “secured” ( balance operating instructions, “Configuring”)
position.
All these error signals are shown for about 5 seconds. The balance responds by showing the weight. The cause of the error signal is not
indicated.
Other error signals do not originate from the CalcPac-M, and are explained in the operating Instructions for the balance concerned.
