CAUTION: The speakers do not have magnetic shielding. Do not place the unit near

CAUTION concerning the Power Cord
Most appliances recommend they be placed upon a dedicated circuit;
That is, a single outlet circuit which powers only that appliance and has no additional
outlets or branch circuits. Check the specification page of this owner's manual to be
certain.
Do not overload wall outlets. Overloaded wall outlets, loose or damaged wall outlets,
extension cords, frayed power cords, or damaged or cracked wire insulation are
dangerous. Any of these conditions could result in electric shock or fire. Periodically
examine the cord of your appliance, and if its appearance indicates damage or
deterioration, unplug it, discontinue use of the appliance, and have the cord replaced

POWER: This unit operates on a mains supply of 230V, 50Hz.
WIRING: This unit is supplied with a BSI 1363 approved 13 amp mains plug, fused
at 3 amp. When replacing the fuse always use a 3 amp BS 1362, BSI or ASTA
approved type. Never use this plug with the fuse cover omitted. To obtain a
replacement fuse cover contact your dealer. If the type of plug supplied is not
suitable for the mains sockets in your home, then the plug should be removed and a
suitable type fitted. Please refer to the wiring instructions below:
WARNING: A mains plug removed from the mains lead of this unit must be
destroyed. A mains plug with bared wires is hazardous if inserted in a mains socket.
Do not connect either wire to the earth pin, marked with the letter E or with the earth
symbol or coloured green or green and yellow.
If any other plug is fitted, use a 3 amp fuse, either in the plug, or at the distribution
board.
IMPORTANT: The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the
following codes:
- BLUE: NEUTRAL, BROWN: LIVE - As the colours of the wires in the mains lead
of this unit may not correspond with the coloured marking identifying the terminals in
your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to
the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire which is
coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L
or coloured red.

Speaker connection

Attach the speakers.
Align the speaker with the main unit as shown in the figure, interlock
the grooves and attach the speaker and main unit.
If you want to detach the speakers,
press the speaker release levers and
then detach each speaker and main unit.

Connect the speaker cables.
Connect only positive (red) wires to positive (+) terminals and
negative (black) wires to negative (-) terminals.

Power source
Notes:
• Unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet if you do not to use for an
extended period of time.
• During the AC power cord connect to the wall outlet, the batteries are not
worn out.
Notes:
• To avoid damage from possible battery leakage, remove the batteries if
you do not plan to use the unit for an extended period of time.
• When the batteries are weak, replace all the batteries with new ones.
AC Power Cord Connection
1 Connect one end of the AC power
cord (supplied) to the AC IN
socket located at the backside of
your unit.
2 Plug the other end into the wall
outlet.
Battery Installation
1 Open the battery cover.
2 Put eight “D” (R20) batteries (not supplied) into the battery
compartment making sure the (+) and (-) are correctly positioned.
3 Replace the battery cover.

cord to the DC power input socket

Listening to the radio - more you can do
To turn the radio off
Set [FUNCTION] switch to “TAPE/OFF”.
To improve reception
• FM: Raise and extend the whip antenna.
If stereo reception is poor, set [FM MODE/RIF] switch to “MONO”.
• MW: Turn the unit to face in the direction of best reception.
• SW1/SW2: Raise and extend the whip antenna and keep it vertical.
Listening to cassette tapes - more you can do
To pause play
Press [X PAUSE].
Press once again to resume play.
To stop play
Press [x /Z STOP/EJECT].
The unit is automatically stopped when the tape playback is completed.
To fast forward or rewind
Press [
bb REW] or [BB FF].
1 Set [FUNCTION] switch to “TUNER”.
“OPERATION/BATT” lights while the radio is on.
2 Select “FM, MW, SW1 or SW2” by using [BAND] switch.
3 Select a station by using tuning control (TUNING).
Listen to cassette tapes
1 Set [FUNCTION] switch to “TAPE/OFF”.
2 Open the cassette holder by pressing [x /Z STOP/EJECT].
3 Insert the tape, with the playback side facing down.
4 Close the cassette holder.
5 Press [
B PLAY] to play the tape.
“OPERATION/BATT” lights while the tape is playing.
Playing the auxiliary equipment
1 Connect the auxiliary equipment to Audio input terminal (L-AUX
IN-R) of the unit by using an audio cable.
2 Set [FUNCTION] switch to “AUX IN”.
3 Turn the auxiliary equipment on and play it.
If you record through the auxiliary equipment, Refer to the
“Recording” on the page 7.

Using the microphone
1 Play a source (Radio or tape).
2 Speak or sing into the microphone.

Recording - more you can do
To pause recording
Press [X PAUSE].
To resume recording, press [X PAUSE] again.
To stop recording
Press [x /Z STOP/EJECT].
The unit is automatically stopped when the tape playback is completed.
Note
• Changes to volume and tone will not affect the recording.
• Wind up the leader tape before recording.
• When recording MW, set [FM MODE/RIF] to the position where there is
less noise.
• Removing the tab(s) of the cassette (with a small screwdriver) will
prevent accidental erasure.
To record again, cover the hole of the tab with adhesive tape.
Other functions
Setting the sound mode
You can select five types of sound effects by pressing JAZZ, ROCK, POP,
CLAS or VOICE OPT. buttons.
The selected sound effect button lights.
- JAZZ: Optimized for jazz music.
- ROCK: Optimized for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.
- POP: Optimized for R&B, Soul and Country music.
- CLAS: Optimized for orchestral music.
- VOICE OPT.: No sound effects used.
XDSS (Extreme Dynamic Sound System)
Press XDSS to reinforce treble, bass and the surround effect. The XDSS
button lights. To cancel, press XDSS again.
Using earphone
Connect a stereo headphone jack ( 3.5mm) to the Headphones jack
(PHONE) to listen to the sound through headphones. No sound can be
heard from speakers.
Avoid listening for prolonged periods of time to prevent hearing damage.
Recording
1 Open the cassette holder and insert a blank tape.
2 Close the cassette holder.
3 Select a source (FM, MW, SW1, SW2, AUX IN or MIC) in which
you want to record.
When recording the auxiliary equipment, Set [FUNCTION] switch to
“AUX IN” and then play it.
When recording through the microphone, Set [FUNCTION] switch to
“TAPE/OFF” and then speak or sing into the microphone.
4 Press [z REC].
You can record from a source to tape.
