specially designed to get grade-school kids up to speed with their fast-paced,
tech-savvy world.
Every product in the Grade School Learning Series covers a wide range  school
basics – math, language, social studies, science, and even an intro to basic Spanish.
Activities are presented in a fast-paced, arcade-game style that kids will recognize
and enj. Each learning machine is loaded with hi-tech features such as word
proceors, electronic addre books, plug-in acceories, and PC uplinks – tools that go
hand-in-hand with the way kids learn, play and use information.

on this learning adventure!

WARNING: All packing materials such as tape, plastic sheets, wire ties and tags are not part of
this toy, and should be discarded for your child’s safety.
Demo strip removal:
When the product is taken out of the packaging, please remove the demo strip from the unit to
activate normal play mode.

The VTech

IRON MAN 2 Learning Laptop operates on three “AA” batteries (AM-3/LR6).
BATTERY INSTALLATION
NOTE: For best performance, remove all factory-installed batteries and use new, alkaline
batteries.
Make sure the unit is turned OFF.
Locate the battery cover at the bottom of the unit and open it.
Install three new “AA” batteries (AM-3/LR6) as illustrated.
Close the battery cover.
STANDARD FOR BATTERY TOYS
Install batteries correctly observing the polarity (+, -) signs to avoid leakage.
Do not mix old and new batteries.
Do not mix batteries of different types: alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable
(nickel-cadmium).

Rotate the packaging locks 90 degrees counter-clockwise.
Pull out the packaging locks.

Remove the batteries from the equipment when the unit will not be used for an extended
period of time.
Always remove exhausted batteries from the equipment.
Do not dispose of batteries in re.
Do not attempt to recharge ordinary batteries.
The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.
Only batteries of the same and equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THE USE OF RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES.

1. FOUR ARMOR BUTTONS
Choose games from four categories with the armor buttons. Each category uses a different suit
of armor in the games and teaches a different subject.
Mark IV - Language Arts games
Mark V (the Suitcase Suit) – Math games
War Machine – Miscellaneous games
Mark VI – Logic & Memory games
2. LIGHT-UP CURSOR MOUSE
Press the mouse up, down, left, or right to select a choice in the
main menu or related activities. Then press the Enter button
on top of the mouse to conrm.
The Cursor Mouse will light up with special effects.
3. CONTRAST SLIDER
Slide this up to darken the screen contrast, or slide down to make the screen contrast lighter.

Slide this up to increase the volume, or slide down to decrease the volume.

IRON MAN 2 Learning Laptop has a typing keyboard. It also features the function
buttons below.
Number Buttons: Press these buttons to enter numbers in related activities.
Letter Buttons: Press these buttons to enter letters in related activities.
Repeat Button: Press this button to repeat an instruction or question.
Answer Button: Press this button to see the correct answer to a question.
Arrow Buttons: Press these buttons to select a choice in the main menu
or related activities.
Enter Button: Press this button to conrm an answer or choice.
Final Battle Button: Press this button to check the status of your power meter (if you
have not yet collected enough power to ll the meter) or to enter the nal battle (when the
power meter is full). For more details, please see the POWER METER section below.

AUTO SHUT DOWN
To preserve battery power, the VTech
®
IRON MAN 2 Learning Laptop
will automatically shut off after several minutes without input. The unit
can be turned on again by pressing the ON/OFF button.
The unit will also automatically shut off when the battery power is low.
HOW TO PLAY
TURNING THE UNIT ON AND OFF
Press the to turn the unit ON. Press the again to turn the unit
OFF.
ACTIVITY SELECTION
When the unit is turned ON, you will see a short opening animation before entering the activity
menu.
Here, the activities of the current category will cycle through automatically on the screen. To
select an activity from the current category, use the arrow buttons or the mouse to scroll
through the choices and press Enter to conrm.
To select a game from a different category, press any one of the armor buttons to enter the
activity menu for that category. Then follow the same process to scroll through the menu
and conrm your choice.
TWO MODES OF PLAY
Every activity has two modes of play that allow the player to choose the appropriate level of difculty.
Choose from ARMOR BEGINNER or ARMOR EXPERT at the beginning of each game. Use the mouse or
the arrow buttons to make a selection and press Enter to conrm.
POWER METER
Iron Man is building a new suit of armor, and he needs your help collecting the power to make it
go! Every time you successfully complete an activity, (by scoring 80 points or more) Iron Man will
earn a new bar of power on his power meter. Collect fourteen bars to ll the meter. Then Iron Man
will have enough power to take his new suit of armor into battle, and the bonus, Final Battle game
will be unlocked. Press the Final Battle button at any time to check the status of the power meter.
Once the meter is full, pressing the Final Battle button will take you into the nal battle, where Iron
Man teams up with War Machine to defeat an army of robot drones.

IRON MAN 2 Learning Laptop offers a total of fourteen activities with two modes
of play, and one bonus Final Battle activity.
CATEGORY 1: Mark IV
Activity 01: Flight Test
Tony Stark is testing his armor’s ight equipment. Help Iron Man y
by choosing the rhyming word. If you answer correctly, Iron Man
will y higher. If you answer incorrectly, Iron Man will be doused by
the extinguisher robot.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Simple rhyming words.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: More advanced rhyming words.
Activity 02: Ferris Wheel Fun
The ferris wheel at the World’s Fair is broken. Help Iron Man rescue
the kids trapped on the ferris wheel by nding the missing vowels.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: A single vowel is missing.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: A pair of vowels is missing.
Activity 03: Picture Match
Iron Man has been invited to the World’s Fair to give a speech on
important inventions in the history of technology, and he is using a
projector to show the images. The words in this activity come from
technological innovations that changed the world.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Learn the names of important inventions by clicking on the pictures.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Choose the picture that matches the word.
Activity 04: Letter Blast
Iron Man is showing off the accuracy of his repulsors by shooting
the targets. Help him hit the correct target by nding the extra
letter in the word.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Words of 3-5 letters.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Words of 5-7 letters.

CATEGORY 2: Mark V (the Suitcase Suit)
Activity 05: Number Race
Tony is competing in a big race. Help him drive his car in the correct
lane by choosing the number that comes next in order.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Skip counting by 1, 2, or 10.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Skip counting by 3 or 5.
Activity 06: Suitcase Code
Whiplash has interrupted the race and is destroying cars. Help
Tony turn into Iron Man so that he can stop Whiplash. Unlock the
suitcase that holds the Iron Man armor by choosing the number
that’s different.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Identify odd and even numbers from 1-50.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Identify odd and even numbers from 51-99.
Activity 07: Car Catch
Whiplash is battling Iron Man on the race track and throwing cars
at him. Help Iron Man catch the cars with drivers in them so that
they can drive away safely. Listen to the number range and catch
the cars within the given range.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Number range from 1-50.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Number range from 51-99.
Activity 08: Math Blast
Now it’s Iron Man’s turn to go on the offensive against Whiplash!
Help Iron Man lock his targeting system on to Whiplash by solving
the math problem. Answer several questions correctly, and Iron
Man will win the battle.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Addition.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Subtraction.
ACTIVITIES

CATEGORY 3: War Machine
Activity 09: Find the Base
Rhodey has taken the Mark II suit from Tony’s home. Help him navigate
his way back to his military base by guiding the radar signal. The
signal will bounce off a series of mirrors along a course. Every
time the signal hits a mirror, it will change direction. One or two
of the mirrors along the course are missing though. You need to select the angle for the missing
mirror that will keep the signal going to the end of the course. The target position is represented
by the white ag.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: One missing mirror.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Two missing mirrors.
Activity 10: Target Practice
The Mark II suit has been modied into War Machine. Rhodey has
agreed to be the pilot of the suit, and he is testing out its repower.
Help Rhodey test War Machine’s repower. Match three shapes of
any kind to make them disappear. Clear all the shapes from the
screen to complete the game.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: No rows will ll in on the right side of the screen.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: A new row will be added to the screen every 30s.
Activity 11: Signal Scrambler
The bad guys are controlling War Machine by using a remote
control. Help War Machine break free from their control. Interfere
with the signal of the remote control by nding the matching tune.
Press the Repeat button at any time to hear the melody from the
question again.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Three answer choices.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Five answer choices.
ACTIVITIES

CATEGORY 4: Mark VI
Activity 12: Key Card
Tony discovered that his father had a secret lab! Now, he needs to
nd the key card that will unlock the lab. Help him open the lab by
choosing the card that is different from the others.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Three answer choices.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Four answer choices.
Activity 13: Armor Puzzle
Tony is testing out different shapes for his new R.T., the power source
that goes in the middle of his armor’s chest plate. Help Tony build the
R.T. in different shapes by putting the puzzles together. Eventually,
Tony will discover the shape that he likes best. If you’re not sure
where to put each puzzle piece, try pressing the Repeat button to see the complete puzzle again.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Four pieces of the puzzle are already lled in. Find the ve pieces that
are missing.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Find all the pieces of the puzzle.
Activity 14: Suit Test
Tony has put together his new suit of armor, the Mark VI. Now he
needs to test if it works. This is a simple memory matching activity.
First, watch the arrows as they highlight and try to remember the
order. Then, it’s your turn to repeat the sequence by pressing in the
correct directions. A new step is added to the sequence after every round.
ARMOR BEGINNER mode: Match 2-6 arrows.
ARMOR EXPERT mode: Match 4-8 arrows.
Activity 15: Final Battle
The Mark VI suit is complete! Now Iron Man can team up with War
Machine against an army of robot drones. Control Iron Man as he
ies on the left side of the screen. Use the mouse to move Iron Man
left and right, and press Enter to shoot. Get past the drones on each
level to advance. When you successfully nish this activity, the counter will lose ve bars of power.
You will have to rell the power meter to enter the activity again.
ACTIVITIES

CARE & MAINTENANCE
Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth. Never use solvents or abrasives.
Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and away from direct sources of heat.
Remove the batteries when not using it for an extended period of time.
Avoid dropping the unit. NEVER try to dismantle it.
Always keep the unit away from water.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If for some reason the unit stops working, then please follow these steps:
Please make sure the unit is OFF.
Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries.
Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the batteries.
If the unit still does not work, replace with an entire set of new batteries.
