the

drive
inside
a
workstation.
Install
the
Hitachi
3
700
CD
drive
in
the
external
cabinet
provided
by
OCLC.
(The
first
drive
you
purchase
arrives
installed
in
a
custom
cabinet
.)
Be
careful
to
read
and
perform
each
step
of
these
procedures.
If
you
damage
the
workstation
or
any
upgrade
components,
you
may
be
billed
for
repairs
. As
you
proceed
with
the
installation,
be
especially
careful
with
the
connector
pins;
use
small jiggles
and
twists
rather
than
force
.
Bent
or
broken
pins
delay installation
of
the
drive
and
increase
your
costs

them
for

vious
defects

to

until

Use
the
small
flathead
screwdriver
to
disconnect
the
monitor
cable
and
other
cables
as
necessary
. Label all
of
the
cables
as
you
discon-
nect
them
. This
helps
you
properly
reattach
them
.
Set
the
monitor,
keyboard
,
and
peripherals
aside.
Follow
the
directions
in
your
Workstation
User
Guide
to
remove
the
sy
stem
unit
cover
.
If
you
remove
an
y
screws
,
be
sure
to
set
them
aside
in
a safe
place
. Avoid
catching
the
cover
on
any
wires
or
c
ables
inside
the
unit. Set
the
cover
aside.
If

already

a CD drive
case
and/or

the
screw
(located
on
the
top
of
the
frame
at
the
rear
of
the
unit)
that
secures
the
OCLC
I/0
Board
. Save
the
screw
to
reinstall
the
board.

Do
not
drop
or
bend
any
parts
that
are
mounted
on
boards.
Boards
are
sensitive
and
easily
damaged
.
Grasp
the
top
of
the
board
with
both
hands
,
one
near
each
end
of
the
board.
Then
lift
the
board
straight
up
. You
may
need
to
pull
fumly
with
a slight
rocking
motion
because
some
boards
are tightly inserted.
If
you
have
an
M300
Workstation
,
remove
the
flat
ribbon
cable
attached
to
the
OCLC
I/0
Board
.
(There
is
no
cable
attached
to
the
OCLC
I/0
Board
in
other
OCLC
workstation
models.)

the

on

Board.
Press
down
or
slide
the
switches
with
a
pointed
object
to
set
them
at
the
follow-

complete
the
following:
In
an
M300
Workstation
,
attach
the
ribbon
cable
to
the
connec-
tor
at
the
top
of
the
board
.
Grasp
the
top
of
the
board
.
Align
the
bottom
of
the
board
with
the
slot
(connector)
in
the
bottom
of
the
chassis.
Then
, firmly
push
the
board
into
the
slot
(this
is
easier
if
you
start
pushing
at
one
corner).

the
slot
in
the
top
of
the
metal
board
retainer
with
the
hole
in
the
rear
panel
of
the
computer.
Insert
the
screw,
and
firmly
tighten
it.
3.2 Install the CD Controller Board

Locate
an
unused
expansion
slot
in
your
workstation,
and
remove
the
expansion
slot
bracket
and
screw
.
The
CD
controller
board
works
in
either
a
one-part,
8-bit
expansion
slot
or
a
two-part,
16-bit
expansion
slot
.
However,
if
possible,
use
the
8-bit
slot
,
and
leave
the
16-bit
slot
for
future
expansion
boards.

remove
the
CD controller
board
from its package .

sure
the
CD
controller
board
is
set
at
the
appropriate
I/0
ad-
dress.
The
TCD-IFIS
controller
board
comes
factory-preset
with
a
hardware
I/0
address
of
300-30F.
The
jumper
defining
the
I/0
ad-
dress is
located
on
a
selectable
address
panel
on
the
pin
switch
P1
on
the
bottom
left
area
of
the
CD
controller
board
(see
fig.
1).
Make
sure
the
jumper
is
placed
on
S4,
the
fourth
jumper
from
the
top,
for
an
address
of
300H.
Write
down
"TCD-IFIS."
You
will
need
this
number
for
section
6,
step
6.
If
you
have
an
M300
Workstation
with
an
OCLC
I/0
Board
without
DIP
switches,
change
the
address
on
the
CD
controller
board
to
200H.
Locate
the
selectable
address
panel
and
move
the
jumper
to
SO,
the
bottom
jumper
position
on
the
panel.
The
200H
address
setting
is
only
for
users
with
early
M300 Worksta-
tions.

the

guidelines
when
installing
a

CD
drive
in
a case:

be

the
same
case
as

CD drives.

as

Hitachi

must
be
installed
in
separate
cases
and
chained
together
with
a CD-ROM
cable
.
The
following
procedure
tells
you
how
to
add
3700
drives
to
either
a
3600
or
3700
case.

Turn
off
the
power

the
CD
drive
and
unplug
it.
If
you
do
not
turn
off
and
unplug
the
CD
drive,
you
can
electro-
cute
yourself.
Use
the
small
Phillips-head
screwdriver
to
disconnect
the
CD
drive
cable
.

the
small
Phillips-head
screwdriver
to
remove
all
the
screws
on
the
left
and
right
sides
of
the
CD
drive
case.
Lift
the
cover
off
the
CD
drive
case.

the
front
plastic
panel
plate
(where
the
new
CD
drive
will
be
housed)
by
pushing
against
the
center
of
the
plate
with
your
fin-
ger-from
inside
the
case
.

Check
the
drive
select
settings
located
on
the
back
of
the
CD
drive
.
The
drive
select
settings
determine
a
unique
drive
address
for
each
of
the
eight
possible
drives
.
Do
not
duplicate
drive
addresses
within
the
case
or
with
other
Hitachi
CD-ROM
drives
attached
to
this
case
.
Set
the
switches
to
the
appropriate
settings
(table
1)

tighten
two
screws

longer

cable

4. Replace the System Unit Cover
1 Make
sure
that
all
boards
are
firmly
seated
,
screws
holding
the
end
s
are
attached
,
and
cables
are
carefully
tucked
back
into
place.
2 Replace
the
system
unit
cover.
(If
you
accidentally
drop
a
screw
in
the
unit,
be
sure
to
remove
it
before
turning
on
the
workstation
.)
3 Verify
that
all
diskette
driv
es
and
switches
on
the
front
are
not
ob-
structed
and
operate
freely
before
turning
on
the
workstation
.

Drives
are
tested
in
sequential
order
for
Select,
Reset,
Seek,
and
Read
functions
.
However
,
since
screen
messages
scroll
rapidly
off
the
display
during
execution,
you
may
want
to
print
the
screen
displays
on
a
parallel
printer
so
that
you
will
have
time
to
analyze
the
test
results
.

software

looked

cannot
eject
it
by
pushing
the
eject
button,
