RS485 network interface for Triplex Columbus text logging
Installation & User Manual
Description
The 'TEAM04 / TEAM16' is an interface that allows connection
of multiple data sources to the Columbus Triplex digital
recorder to utilise its text logging feature.
The ‘TEAM04’ allows up to 4 Till interface slave devices to be
connected and the ‘TEAM16’ gives a maximum of 16.

Controls and Indicators
Front panel
The front panel of the unit has 3 LED indicators - one to show
when power is connected and two to indicate the status of the
device as follows:
When the unit is powered up, it performs a self test, status
light B will illuminate to indicate the test has completed
successfully and that the unit is functioning correctly. Status
light A will flash whenever data is received at the RS485 input.
Rear panel
On the rear of the unit there is a bank of 8 DIP switches,
numbers 1 – 4 are used for Event/Alarm Settings, 5 – 7 are
not used, switch number 8 is the RS485 termination switch -
with the switch in the ON position, the device is terminated.

Connections
On installation, the following connections must be made: -
Power connection
Connect the supplied mains power adapter to the 12VDC jack
socket.
RS232 connection to Columbus
Connect the TEAM04/16 RS232 port to the RS232 port 2 of
the Columbus unit using the supplied data cable. Ensure the
RS232 parameters of the Columbus serial port are set within
the Columbus menu as follows: -
Main Menu > Communications > RS232 port2 >
Baud rate - 9600
RS485 connection to slave devices
Connect the TEAM04/16 to the Till interface slave devices via
the RS485 port using a suitable cable (see appendix).
The two devices at either end of the RS485 network should
have termination switched ON, all other devices on the
network should have termination switched OFF.
The address of each Till interface slave device determines
which camera image the data will be associated with when
recorded by the Triplex Columbus, i.e. data from address 1
will be associated with camera number 1. Each device on the
network must be set with a unique address otherwise conflicts
will occur. (See Till Interface manual for information on
Dipswitch settings)

NB: Apply power to the Triplex Columbus last as it poles
its ports for external connections.
Typical System Configuration
System Recommendations
To avoid the possibility of missing any till information, it is
recommended that the Triplex Hard Disk Recorder, be set to
record at a minimum of 2 pictures per second for the camera
associated with the Till interface. On a standard Triplex
Columbus record settings are Global, however individual
record rates can be achieved by using the Event/Pre-Event
features of the TEAM unit. On a System Triplex Columbus,
record settings are individual per camera therefore the
associated camera will need to be set to 2pps minimum.

TEAM Event settings
Your TEAM unit can be configured to change the way the
Triplex Hard Disk Recorder handles the text received. This is
achieved by setting the DIP switches 1 to 4 on the team unit:

Event 00
The text will be recorded with the next picture from the
relevant camera. There will be no change in the event status.
The camera’s record rate will be unchanged. An event will not
be marked on the Data Analysis Screen. Event 00 is suitable
for use with till interfaces.
Event 01
The text will be recorded with the next picture from the
relevant camera. An event will be initiated and the pre-event
buffer will be recorded. The camera’s record rate will be
changed to the event record rate. The event will continue until
an Event 02 event is received. The event will be marked on
the Data Analysis Screen. Event 01 is not suitable for use with
till interfaces.
Event 02
This is used to stop an Event 01 event. Text will not be
recorded. Event 02 is not suitable for use with till interfaces.

Event 03
The text will be recorded with the next picture from the
relevant camera. An event will be initiated and the pre-event
buffer and the post-event timer will be recorded. The camera’s
record rate will be changed to the event record rate until the
post-event timer has timed our, then it will return to the normal
time lapse speed. The event will be marked on the Data
Analysis Screen. Event 03 is suitable for use with till
interfaces.
Alarm 01
The text will be recorded with the next picture from the
relevant camera. An alarm will be initiated, with the relevant
camera as the alarmed camera, the pre-alarm buffer will be
recorded. The record rate will be changed to the alarm record
rate. The alarm will continue until an Alarm 02 event is
received. The event will be marked on the Data Analysis
Screen. Alarm 01 is not suitable for use with till interfaces.
Alarm 02
This is used to stop an Alarm 01 event. Text will not be
recorded. Alarm 02 is not suitable for use with till interfaces.
Alarm 03
The text will be recorded with the next picture from the
relevant camera. An alarm will be initiated, with the relevant
camera as the alarmed camera, the pre-alarm buffer will be
recorded. The record rate will be changed to the alarm record
rate for the pre-alarm buffer then return to the normal time-
lapse rate. The alarm will be marked on the Data Analysis
Screen. Alarm 03 is not suitable for use with till interfaces.
