Driver
Overview
Welcome to the on-line manual for the Kodak Professional 8650/8660
raster driver for Windows 95/98. You can use this printer driver with the
Kodak Professional 8660 thermal printer (8660 printer) and the Kodak
Digital Science
TM
8650 color printer (8650 printer). The printer driver
provides access to the printers features through the raster path.
Previously, you could only use the export module to send Photoshop jobs
to the printers. With this printer driver, you can send jobs to the printers
from most applications.
About the Printer Driver
The printer driver is software that allows the software applications you
use to access the printers features. For example, your application
determines the page breaks, font selection, and page setup for your print
job. The printer driver translates this information into a printer language
such as Adobe PostScript or Kodak raster language and sends the job to
the printer. The printer drivers graphical user interface gives you access
to additional printing options that are not available from your software
application.
You can access the features for the printer driver from the print and page
setup commands in the application you are using. You can also access
the features from the Start menu using the Settings>Printers command.

Features of the Printer Driver
The printer driver gives you the following printing options that are not
available directly from your software application:
Print Preview
The printer drivers interface includes a preview window that displays a
proportional model of the last image you sent to the printer. The image in
the preview window changes as you change the settings for features such
as package printing or custom color adjustments.
Adding a Logo
You can add a logo of your choice to your document page and adjust its
placement on the page.
Package Printing
Package printing was previously available only through the export module
for the 8660 printer and is now available to both printers through the
printer driver. With package printing, you send a single document page to
the printer and get multiple sizes on your print. You can select from
several preformatted packages.
Color Management
The printer driver lets you choose how to manage the color in your
document pages. You can make prints using the printers default color and
then adjust the color settings in the Advanced Color dialog box. You can
also use the Kodak ColorFlow color connector software to apply color

installed by using the CDs browser. In addition to the software and
documentation, the CD contains the tutorial for the color connector
application.

Using Package Printing
With package printing, you send a single
document page to the printer and you get
multiple document page sizes on your print.
For example, by selecting the package 5x7
in. and 3.5x5 in. and Wallets, your copy
contains one 5x7 in. print, one or more 3.5x5
in. prints, and a number of wallet size prints
(depending upon the paper size selected) on
a single page.
NOTE: The print sizes may not be exact
because of the height-to-width ratio
of the document page. To fill the
entire print area, you may need to
resize the document page to match
the packages largest document
page size in an application such as
Adobe Photoshop.
You can select from several preformatted packages. For information on
how to use preformatted packages refer to Using Preformatted
Packages. For more information about these options, refer to Option
Descriptions.

Using Preformatted Packages
For best results, make sure that the document page you wish to print in
package format is the same size as the largest document page in the
package. For example, if you select the package 5 x 7 in. and 3.5 x 5 in.
and Wallets, your original document page should be 5 x 7 in.
If necessary, resize the document page in an application such as Adobe
Photoshop before printing.

you to match the colors in your input device (such as your computer
monitor) with the colors in your output device (the printer). You create
color connector files that store color management information specific to
the input and output devices. Select this file from the printer driver to
apply it to your print job. Refer to Using Color Management for
instructions on how to use color connector.
Color Management (Windows ICM) (Windows 95/98 Only)
Image Color Management is color management software that is included
with Windows 95/98. With Windows ICM, you can use the options on the
Advanced Color dialog box to adjust the color in your document pages.
