Hobart LX20 Tool is a software program that you can use to program SL100 scales more easily. There are two users of the LX20 program: service and manager. When you log in as manager, you can:

Send and receive data files.
Convert data files to a different software version.
Merge PLU files into a new file.
Create data files (label formats, PLUs).

GETTING STARTED

1.1 What is LX20?

LX20 is a software program that is used to program SL100 scales more easily.

There are two users of the LX20 program: service and manager. When you login

as manager you can:

• Sendandreceivedatales.

• Convertdatalestoadifferentsoftwareversion.

• MergePLUlesintoanewle.

• Createdatales(labelformats,PLUs).

Refer to the User Instructions provided on the CD shipped with the SL100 scale.

1.2 Saving a File

NOTE:WhensavingaleALWAYSchangethenameinordertoavoidoverwriting

lesandlosingtheoriginal.

1.3 Installing

1. Close all applications.

2. Insert the CDROM into the CD drive and close the drive.

LX20 runs the setup procedure.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

4.WhennishedremovetheCDandstoreinasafeplace.

1.4 Logging In

1 Double click the LX20 icon on the Windows desktop.

2 Select the user name manager. Enter the password. Manager log in ...

3 Click OK.

The following functions are available either by clicking the toolbar icon or by

selecting the menus. Certain functions are unavailable if you log in as manager or

if you have not connected to a scale.

1.6 LX20 Communications

Connect the SL100 server into a communications port on the PC. The Serial Port

Settings tab is displayed when you log into LX20. If it has been switched off, click



to display the tab. Select the PC port used by the scale connection.



Editor Version

This is the version used by LX20 when you create new PLU and label format

les.

Youcanstillchangetheversionnumberofalebyusingthe‘SaveAs’buttonor

theoption‘ConvertFiles’.

File Mode

‘Update’replacesexistingPLUswithnewdata.

‘Overwrite’overwritestheentirePLUle.

Whenusingthe‘SendtoScale’buttoninaneditor,thedataatthescaleisupdated

eveniflemodeissetto‘Overwrite’.

2.2.2 Barcode template Please

remember .....

MX020 automatically sets up this template for you when you convert the

system file so you only need to set up the template if you are converting a PLU

file.

It is essential that the barcode template in MX020 matches the barcode

template in the machine. If the machine uses barcode format 3 which has

the template 21AAAAVPPPPPC then barcode format 3 in MX020 must be

programmed with the same template.

To program a different barcode format select the template from the

drop down list. For example to program barcode format 4 drop down the

list of templates and press the down and up arrows on the PC keyboard

until Barcode Format 4 is displayed. Click the highlighted template. To

edit the barcode template click in the box and overtype.

2.2.2 Barcode Template

NOTE: The LX20 automatically sets up this template for you when you convert

thesystemlesothatyouonlyneedtosetupthetemplateifyouareconverting

aPLUle.

NOTE: It is essential that the barcode template in the LX20 matches the barcode

template in the scale. If the scale uses barcode format 3 which has the template

21AAAAVPPPPPC then barcode format 3 in the LX20 must be programmed with

the same template.

To program a different barcode format, select the template from the drop down

list.Forexample:Toprogrambarcodeformat4,dropdownthelistoftemplates

andpressthedownanduparrowsonthePCkeyboarduntil‘BarcodeFormat4’

is displayed. Click the highlighted template. To edit the barcode template, click in

theboxandovertype.

2.2.3 PLU Template

This determines the options displayed in PLU Create and Edit. All options are

set on by default. Click options which are not required to deselect.



2.2.4 Department Template

SLseriesscalesonlyuseonedepartment.WhenconvertingaPLUlefromanother

scaletype,onlyPLUsindepartment0areconvertedifyouselect‘Department0

Only’.Ifyouselect‘AllDepartments’allPLUsareconvertedandanyPLUswith

the same PLU number are overwritten.

isanarbitraryexampleassignedtotheselectedbarcodetype.Ifyoucreatea

barcodeeldonalabelformat,thebarcodeisdisplayedinthepreviewcolumn

using this number.

Youdonotneedtochangethenumberforthedatastring;butifyoudo,make

surethatyouenteravalidvalue.Forexample:ThenumberforEAN13musthave

13 digits.

ThisdeterminesthesettingsusedbytheLX20todisplaytheexamplelabelformat

layout. The screen below shows UK settings.

2.3 Change Password

Youcanchangethemanagerpasswordifrequired.

Youcannotchangetheusernames‘manager’and‘service’oraddnewusers.



CREATING PLUS

You canselectthe PLUeditoreither fromthemenusorbyclickingthetoolbar

button.

Toviewthetextasitwillbeprintedonthelabel:

• Loadthelabelformatle.

• Selectthelabelformat.

• EnterthelabelreferenceonthePLURecordwindow.

• DisplaythewindowforText1.

IfyouwishtoreusethePLUlealreadyprogrammedinthestore,youshoulddo

the following:

• ReceivethePLUleasdescribedinsection4.2.

• Loadtheleasdescribedinsection3.2.

3.1 New PLU



1.Click‘New’.

2. Type the number of the new PLU.



3. Click OK.

4. Enterthetexttobedisplayedatthescaleuptoamaximumof16characters.

5. ClickText1inthelefthandcolumn.Entertextuptoamaximumof40characters

including formatting characters.

The display text entered will automatically become the default text for text eld 1.

Press‘Shift’and‘Enter’toputacenteredlinefeedattheendofaline.Press‘Enter’to

put a left aligned linefeed at the end of a line.

6. ClickText2inthelefthandcolumn.Entertext.

Theavailabilityoftextbox2dependsontheeldsspeciedinthePLUtemplate,

refer to section 2.2.3.

7. Click Record in the left hand column. Enter data.

DependingontheeldsspeciedinthePLUtemplateinsection2.2.3,certainelds

maybeunavailable.Thescreenwillchangeasyouenterdata.Forexample:Ifyou

select‘Non-weighed’for‘PriceType’the‘NetWeight’boxbecomesavailable.



8.Click‘Dates’inthelefthandcolumn.Enterdata.

9.Click‘Barcodes’inthelefthandcolumn.Enterdata.



10. TocreatethenextPLU,click‘SelectPLU’inthelefthandcolumn.Repeat

from step 1.



3.2 Editing a PLU File

1.Click‘Load’.

2.Dropdownthelistofletypesandselect*.plu.

3.Clicktherequiredletoselect.Thenclick‘Open’.


