Introduction
Before using the option paper feeder, duplexer, and sorter, please read this
guide, then carefully follow all instructions given for installing and using
these options.
After installing an option on the printer, you must first setup the printer
driver. For information on the setup procedure, refer to the CD-ROM that is
supplied with the printer.
Thank you for purchasing option paper feeder. The paper feeder is intended
for use with page printers. The paper feeder provides your printer with a
second source of paper supply in addition to that provided by the printer’s
standard paper cassette. The printer can automatically switch paper feed
back and forth between the standard paper cassette (capacity: 500 sheets)
and the option paper feeder (capacity: 500 sheets), or you can select the
source of paper supply yourself using the switches on the printer’s operator
panel.
In addition, if you have three option paper feeders, you can stack them to get
a fourth source of paper supply. This provides you with additional capacity or
an additional paper size.
Thank you for purchasing option duplexer. The duplexer is an auxiliary unit
designed for use with the page printers. Using the duplexer, you can
automatically print on both sides of the paper.
Thank you for purchasing option sorter. The sorter is a large-capacity, high-
speed sorter which is equipped with five paper trays and designed for the
page printers. Each of the sorter’s five trays can feed about 200 sheets of
paper. A sorting function which uses all five trays and a mail box function for
designating a specific tray and feeding the paper on that tray are provided.

Names of Parts
Parts of the Option Paper Feeder
Before installing the option paper feeder, please read the following list of
names. These names are used in describing procedures for installing and
using the optional paper feeder.
A Connector: When you install the option paper feeder, this connector
plugs into a connector located inside the bottom of the printer.
B Positioning Pins: When you install the option paper feeder, these pins fit
into two holes in the bottom of the printer.
C Paper Cassette: This cassette holds up to 500 sheets of paper (paper with
a thickness of 0.1 mm). It also accommodates A5, JIS B5, and Legal size
paper.
Parts of the Paper Cassette
D Bottom Plate: Springs lift this hinged table to raise the front edge of the
paper stack as paper is fed into the printer.
E Paper Guides: Keeps the sides of the paper aligned and helps the paper
to feed straight.
F Paper Stopper: Keeps the back edges of the paper aligned.
• The paper cassette of the paper feeder can be inserted into the
printer. Similarly, the printer’s paper cassette can be inserted
into the feeder.
• The procedures for loading paper into and adjusting the paper
size of the paper cassette of the paper feeder are the same as
for the printer’s paper cassette.

Parts of the Option Sorter
A Sorter Trays: There are five sorter trays. Each tray can hold up to approximately 200 sheets of printed paper placed with their printed sides facing down.
B Rear Cover: Open to clear paper jams.
C Power Cable Connector: The power cord supplied with the printer is connected to this connector.
If not using the supplied power cord, contact the dealer from which you purchased the product and use one that conforms to the safety standard.
D Power Cable Connector: Connects the power cord supplied with the sorter. The other end of the power cord is connected to the printer’s power cord connector.
E Sorter Cable: Plugs into the option sorter/stacker connector (Opt) located on the rear of the printer for control from the printer.

Removing Paper Jams
If paper jams inside the feeder, the Paper jam Cassette 2 (3 or 4)
message appears on the printer’s message display. Clear the jammed paper
by following the procedure below. After reclosing the feeder’s paper cassette,
open and close the printer’s top cover. (It is unnecessary to open and close the
top cover when installing the Color printers for A4/Letter size.) Then the
printer automatically warms up, goes on-line, and continues printing.
Depending on the part at which the jam occurred, the printer may or may not
print the jammed page.
In Case of a Paper Jam when Using Two or Three Paper
Feeders
Up to three paper feeders can be used one on top of the other. If paper gets
jammed while being fed from the lower feeder, check also whether there is
paper remaining inside the upper feeder.
In the event of a paper jam, the Paper jam Duplexer message appears on
the printer’s message display.
Clear the jammed paper by following the procedure below.
1 Open the rear cover of the duplexer and remove the jammed paper.
2 Pull out the duplex drawer.
3 Remove the jammed paper.
4 Close the rear cover and return the duplex drawer to its original
position.
5 Open and close the printer’s top cover. The printer automatically warms
up, goes on-line, and continues printing.
If the paper jams in the sorter, the Paper jam Option Stacker message
appears on the printer’s message display, and the printer is paused.
Clear the jammed paper by following the procedure below.
1 Open the rear cover of the option sorter.
2 Remove the jammed paper. If both ends of the paper are inside the
sorter, turn the paper feed gear in the direction of the arrows. The paper
can then be removed easily.
3 Close the rear cover of the option stacker.
4 Open and close the printer’s top cover. The printer automatically warms
up, goes on-line, and continues printing.
