The Quick Start Guide was developed to help
you get started using the Scan Tool. If there are any
problems following these steps or extra information
is required refer to the User’s Guide located on
the included CD. All Safety Information is contained
in the User’s Guide. Read User’s Guide completely
before operating Scan Tool.

General Scan Tool Information
User Interface
The scan tool is designed for easy use. All menus and lists operate the same
way.
  UP or DOWN arrow keys allow movement through lists and
menus.
  LEFT or RIGHT arrow keys moves between Answers and
Recorded Data Frames.
  ENTER key selects item.
  BACK key returns to previous screen.
? HELP key gives online Help if available.
ON/OFF key turns power to scan tool ON or OFF.
USER key gives quick access to a sequence of available features.
Display Icons
? Shows when Help is available.
Shows additional information is available by scrolling down.
Shows additional information is available by scrolling up.
Shows if the internal batteries need replaced or are not installed.
√ Shows selected items in a data list.

Shows graphical viewing is available.
6Indicates beeper is enabled.
Using Your Scan Tool
Installing Internal Batteries
Scan Tool requires 6 AAA alkaline batteries to operate without vehicle power.
When internal batteries need replaced, the low-battery icon () displays.
1. Place display face down on a non-abrasive surface.
2. Remove battery cover by turning screw counterclockwise and sliding
cover off.
3. Remove batteries and properly discard.
4. Install 6 new AAA Alkaline Batteries.
5. Reinstall battery cover by sliding on and turning screw clockwise.
NOTE: Do not overtighten screw.

Communicating with Vehicle
1. Connect Data Link Connector cable to the tool.
2. Connect Data Link Connector to vehicle.
3. Place ignition key in the ON position and have the engine running or OFF.
4. Press and hold ON/OFF key for at least 1 second to turn ON scan tool.
5. Select Vehicle Diagnostics from Main Menu.
6. If the vehicle you want to test is on the list, use the UP or DOWN
arrow keys to highlight the vehicle and press ENTER to select it.
7. If the vehicle you want to test is not on the list, use the UP or
DOWN arrow keys to highlight New Vehicle.
8. From the Select Vehicle Menu, select a vehicle from the following types:
Global OBD II, Domestic, European or Asian.
9. Enter the following information.
  Manufacturer   Model
  Car/Truck Engine
  Year Select Special (if required)
Make
10. Make sure the cables are correctly attached.
11. Go to the Diagnostic Menu by pressing ENTER.
Locating Data Link Connector
The Data Link Connector (DLC) is usually located
under the driver’s side dash for OBD II Vehicles and
GM OBD I.
For Ford and Chrysler OBD I Vehicles the (DLC) is
usually found in the engine compartment.
Refer to User’s Guide for DLC location and OBD I
optional cables available for purchase.
NOTE: When using the OBD II cable, power to the tool comes from the Data
Link Connector.

Tool Functions
Not all Tool Functions are available on all vehicles. The Scan Tool will only
display functions that are applicable to selected vehicles.
View Data
Views vehicle Parameter Identication Data (PIDs) in real time. PIDs are
displayed in either a text format or graph format when available.
Record Data
Records vehicle PIDs while vehicle is parked or being driven. This function is for
diagnosing intermittent driveability problems.
Read Codes
Reads DTCs from vehicle’s computer with KOEO or KOER.
Pending Codes
Reads pending codes from vehicle’s memory.
Erase Codes
Deletes DTCs from vehicle’s memory.
View Freeze Data
Displays a snapshot of operating conditions at the time of a fault.
I/M Readiness
Displays a snapshot of the state of the vehicle’s OBD II Monitors.
Drive Cycle Monitor
Displays the current state of the vehicle’s OBD II Monitors in Real-Time.
O2 Monitor Test
The O2 Monitor Test is NOT an ON-DEMAND TEST. This Function displays
oxygen sensor monitoring test results from the vehicle’s memory.
Diagnostic Monitor Test
Reads test results for emission related powertrain components and systems that
are and are not continuously monitored.
On-Board Systems
Scan tool controls the operation of vehicle components, tests or systems.
Vehicle Information
Scan tool displays the vehicle’s VIN number, Calibration ID(s) and CVN that
identify the software version in the vehicles control module(s.) The tool also
displays In-Use Performance Tracking of important readiness monitors.
Modules Present
Views the status of all OBD II compliant modules.
Review Data
Allows review of data stored in Scan Tool.
Print Data
Prints diagnostic information stored in the Scan Tool.
Code Lookup
Looks up denitions of DTCs stored in Scan Tool.
Contrast Adjust
Adjusts the contrast on the display screen.

Setup User Key
Used to program certain Diagnostic Menu or sub menu functions for User Key.
State OBD Check
Used to display a basic status of the vehicles OBD system.
Field Service
Special diagnostic mode to monitor fuel system operation and read DTCs.
Read KOEO Fast/Slow Codes
Activates the KOEO (Key-On-Engine-Off) and Continuous Memory self-tests
which retrieves KOEO and Continuous Memory DTCs from the PCM.
Read KOER Fast/Slow Codes
Activates the KOER (Key-On-Engine-Running) self-test which retrieves KOER
DTCs that are present when the engine is running.
IVSC KOEO/KOER Codes
Activates the KOEO and KOER self-tests for IVSC (Integrated Vehicle Speed
Control), Ford’s computerized cruise control system on EEC-IV vehicles.
KOEO/KOER Wiggle Test
Used to locate intermittent electrical faults on EEC-IV vehicles.
Output Switch Test
Used to check the operation of the computer-controlled relays and solenoids on
EEC-IV vehicles.
Cyl Balance Test
Identies a weak cylinder(s) on EEC-IV vehicles.
STAR Test Mode
Can be used to retrieve DTCs from the PCM or other STAR (Self-Test Automatic
Readout) compatible controllers installed in the vehicle.
KOEO On Demand
Functional test of the computer modules and system with the Key ON – Engine
OFF (KOEO).
KOEO Injector Buzz
Functional test performed on demand with the ignition key ON and Engine OFF.
KOEO Output State
Tests the output devices (actuators, relays, etc.) controlled by the PCM by
powering them on and off.
KOER On Demand
Functional test with the Key ON – Engine RUNNING (KOER) that checks the
computer module’s inputs, outputs, sensor ranges, and operation.
KOER Glow Plug
On-demand test which activates the glow plug relay and detects any difference in
the amount of current between both banks of glow plugs.
KOER Cylinder Cont.
This test determines that all cylinders are contibuting equally to engine
performance.
KOER Switch Test
Functional test performed On-Demand with the engine running.

Read Temporary Codes
Used on vehicles equipped with Jeep and Truck Engine Controllers (JTEC) and
SBEC version III modules.
Controller Info
Provides additional specications on the PCM and vehicle under test.
Actuator Test
Used to check the operation of many of the computer-controlled relays and
solenoids.
Idle Speed Test
Used to test the functionality of the vehicle idle speed control system.
Reset EMR Lamp
Function should be performed after servicing the vehicle’s emissions control
systems.
Set Basic Time
Used when checking basic timing. This feature suspends spark scatter at idle.
Acronyms
Allows the user to view acronyms and abbreviations used by the Scan Tool.
Print Header
Used to turn ON/OFF printing vehicle information prior to printing data.
Printer Setup
Used to select the appropriate printer port destination.
Program Mode
Used to update the Scan Tool. Instructions are provided with upgrades.
Tool Setup
Allows the user to congure the Scan Tool with personalized settings.
