Open Shipping Crate
1. Set the shipping crate on a solid, flat
surface.
2. Carefully cut the shipping bands and
remove lid of shipping crate.
3. Using two people to lift, carefully
remove all parts and components.
4. Locate all hardware before beginning
assembly.
For parts reference see pages
16-18 in the manual.
Step 1 – Engine Carriage
Assembly
The Engine is mounted to the hydraulic tank
– together they make the Engine Carriage.
The Engine Carriage attaches to the frame
and is designed to swing freely when
operating the Auger/Post Hole Digger. This
swinging movement allows the engine and
hydraulic tank to stay level, avoiding fuel
and oil spillage.
1. Use M20x60 bolt, lock washer, nut, and
lock nut to attach engine carriage to
frame
Step 2 – Attach Wheels
1. Attach wheel to axle using 4 M12x25
bolts. Repeat actions for other side
Assembly
Rev 90034-20090416 7
Step 3 – Attach Boom
1. Line up holes on boom with holes on
axle.
2. Attach and secure boom to axle with
M10x35 Flange bolts, Flat Washer Ø10,
Lock Washer Ø10 and M10 nuts.
Step 4 – Attach hose
retaining bracket
The hose retaining bracket protects the
hydraulic hoses on the handle assembly.
1. Align holes in hose retaining bracket (A)
with the holes on the handle frame
2. Fasten retaining bracket to handle with
(2) M6x20 bolts, (2) M6 nuts, (2) Ø6 flat
washers and (2) Ø6 lock washers.
Step 5 – Feed the hydraulic
hoses and wires through the
boom
1. Feed the hydraulic hoses and wires
through the boom pole
Step 6 – Attach handle
assembly to boom
1. Slides handle tube into the boom.
2. Install M10x35 bolt and Ø10 flat washer
through the boom pivot bracket and into
the nut welded to the handle assembly.
3. Tighten bolt until handle is secure and
does not rotate.
4. Thread M10 nut onto the end of the
M10x35 .Do not tighten the nut against
the weld nut; the nut acts as a stop so
that the M10x35 bolt cannot fall out or
be loosened too far when making
adjustments.
Step 7 – Connect hydraulic
hoses
1. Connect hose 2400 to the hydraulic
pump outlet (A)
2. Connect hose 2550 to the hydraulic filter
(B)
3. Make sure the hoses have enough slack
to allow the engine carriage to swing
freely.
Assembly
8 Rev 90034-20090416
Step 8 – Wire connections
The emergency stop wire contains a
white wire and black wire.
1. Remove gas tank nut (E) and attach
white wire to stud, replace nut.

Add Engine Oil
CAUTION
DO NOT attempt to crank or start the engine
before it has been properly filled with the
recommended type and amount of oil. Damage
to the Auger/Post Hole Digger as a result of
failure to follow these instructions will void your
warranty.
1. Make sure the Auger is on a flat, level
surface.
2. Remove oil fill cap/dipstick to add oil.
3. Add 1.16 qt (1.1 L) of oil and replace oil
fill cap/dipstick.
4. Check engine oil level daily and add as
needed.
CAUTION
The engine is equipped with a low-oil-shutoff and
will stop when the oil level in the crankcase falls
below the threshold level.
NOTE
Check oil often during the break-in period. Refer
to the Maintenance section for recommended
service intervals.
Add Engine Fuel
1. Use clean, fresh, regular unleaded fuel
with a minimum octane rating of 85.
2. DO NOT mix oil with fuel.
3. Clean the area around the fuel cap.
4. Remove the fuel cap
5. Slowly add fuel to the tank. DO NOT
overfill. Allow approximately ¼ inch of
space for fuel expansion.
6. Screw on the fuel cap and wipe away any
spilled fuel.
CAUTION
Use regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum
octane rating of 85.
DO NOT mix oil and gasoline.
Fill tank to approximately ¼” below the top of
the tank to allow for fuel expansion.
DO NOT fill fuel tank indoors.
DO NOT fill fuel tank when the engine is running
or hot.
DO NOT overfill the fuel tank.
DO NOT light cigarettes or smoke when filling the
fuel tank.
Add Hydraulic Oil
1. Make sure the Auger is on a flat, level
surface.
2. Remove the oil breather cap from the oil
tank (A).
3. Add 3.9 gallons/15 L of hydraulic oil -
10W AW32, ASLE H-150, or ISO 32 are
all acceptable types of fluid.
Operation
10 Rev 90034-20090416
Operation
Auger/Post Hole Digger
Location
This Auger/Post Hole Digger must have at
least five feet of clearance from combustible
material. Leave at least three feet of
clearance on all sides of the Auger to allow
for adequate cooling, maintenance and
servicing. DO NOT place the Auger/post
Hole Digger near vents or intakes where
engine exhaust fumes could be drawn into
occupied or confined spaces. Carefully
consider wind and air currents when
positioning Auger.
Starting the Engine
1. As much as possible, make certain the
Auger/Post Hole Digger is on a flat, level
surface.
2. Flip engine switch to “ON” position.
3. Move the fuel lever (Item C) to the “ON”
position (to the right).
4. Move the choke lever (Item B) to the
“Choke” position (to the left).
5. Pull the starter cord slowly until
resistance is felt and then pull rapidly
6. As engine warms up, move the choke
lever to “Run” (to the right).
7. Move the throttle lever (Item A) to the
“Fast” position.
NOTE
If the engine starts but does not run make
certain that the Auger/Post Hole Digger is on a
flat, level surface. The engine is equipped with a
low oil sensor that will prevent the engine from
running when the oil level falls below a critical
threshold.
Stopping the Engine
1. Turn the ignition switch to the “Off”
position.
2. Turn the fuel valve to the “Off” position.
Digging Operation
1. Use lock pin to attach the Auger bit to
the Auger coupler.
2. Position the machine so that it is level as
possible. If digging on an incline,
position the Auger so that it will not roll
away or towards you. Loosen the pivot
bolt and rotate the handle to the desired
angle.
3. Use the Auger handle to position the
Auger bit for digging.
4. Squeeze the right side of the trigger to
dig.
5. As you dig, push the handle down to the
ground in tandem with the drilling
action of the Auger bit. DO NOT force
it.
6. Periodically lift the Auger to clear loose
dirt from the hole.
7. If the Auger becomes stuck, squeeze the
left side of the trigger to reverse the
rotation of the Auger.
