Congratulations on your purchase of a Sportline META 1075-MP3 + Heart Rate. Please keep in mind;
this is a sensitive technical instrument. With proper care and maintenance, it will last for many years.
However, improper care and handling can cause the various sensors to be damaged and to stop
functioning.
HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL
The Sportline META 1075-MP3 + Heart Rate has many unique features and functions. Please read all
sections of this manual carefully and become fully familiar with the operation of the unit before using
it in the field.
Proper setup and operation will greatly enhance the unit’s usefulness and your enjoyment.
The manual is divided into sections outlining each of the major functions of the unit. A drawing of
the display screen that represents the starting point or other important screens for each operational
process are shown adjacent to the instructions for the process; important keys are shown indicating
PRESS & HOLD and PRESS.
The steps for the programming or operation are adjacent to the screen illustration. Key points and
important information are shown in highlighted blocks.

CHARGING THE BATTERY
This device is powered by an internal, integrated rechargeable battery. For best results, the first time
you use your Sportline META 1075, let it charge for about three hours or until the battery icon in the
status area of the display shows that the battery is fully charged. If the META 1075 isn’t used for a
while, the battery may drain and might need to be charged.
Estimated usage time for a single charge is approximately 7 hours of music play/heart rate
functionality. Recharging the battery should occur when:
1. The display fades in part or completely
2. The Battery Indicator icon displays WEAK (
) or EMPTY ( ).
You can charge the META 1075 battery in two ways:
Connect the META to a computer
Using a USB Power Adapter (not included)
TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY:
1. Connect the unit to a USB 2.0 port on your computer using the USB cable included.
NOTE: The computer must be turned on and not in sleep mode.
2. If the battery icon in the display is animating from empty ( ) to full ( ), the unit is
charging. If the battery icon is not animating or if your computer gives you a USB low-power
notice, the unit may not be connected to a high-power USB port. Try another USB port on your
computer.
3. When battery icon indicates fully charged ( ), charge is complete.

CONNECTING THE UNIT TO A PC
Connect the Sportline META 1075 to your computer to add music or files, and charge the battery.
NOTE: The battery doesn’t charge when your computer is in sleep mode.
CONNECTING THE UNIT TO A COMPUTER
No Driver is required if your PC is WIN2000 / ME / XP or above version.
Connect the device and your PC with the USB cable.
You can directly add, copy or delete any files stored in the device. You can also download music
from your PC to the device.
1. Connect the unit to a USB 2.0 port on your computer using the USB cable included.
2. If the battery icon is not animating or if your computer gives you a USB low-power notice, the unit
may not be connected to a high-power USB port. Try another USB port on your computer..
Note: The USB port on most keyboards doesn’t provide enough power.

DOWNLOADING MUSIC
Music can be purchased from a number of sites, but must be downloaded “DRM-free” and in
the widely available format .mp3. “DRM-free” means that the song can be played on any music
player. Below is a list of some popular “DRM-free” sites. After creating an account with the site
of your choice, you will be able to download the specific songs you choose to your computer.
These songs can then be transferred to your player.

*PLEASE NOTE songs previously purchased from iTunes may only play on an iTunes player, except if purchased
thru the new “iTunes Plus” program. The iTunes Plus program allows you to purchase “DRM-free” songs that
can be played on any player. The DRM-free songs are designated with a “plus (+)” sign next to the price. They
will be downloaded to your computer in the standard .mp3 format.

If you already own a cd, you can create your own .mp3 songs on your computer that can then be
transferred to your player.
1. Download a copy of Windows Media Player 11 from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/alldownloads.aspx and
follow the
installation instructions.
2. Once the program is installed and launched, find the tab at the top of the screen labeled
“RIP”. Follow the prompts which will allow you to insert a CD, create .mp3 files, and save
them to your “my music” folder.

CONNECT YOUR PLAYER TO YOUR COMPUTER
1. Using the supplied transfer cable, connect the small end to your player and the larger end to the
USB port of your computer. Your computer will take a moment, but should recognize that you have
“added a new hardware device”, and display such a message in the lower right corner.
2. A window may pop up, asking you which action you would like to perform with the new found
device. Select, “open folder to view files.” If a window does not pop up, click on the “my
computer” icon located under the start menu. Under my computer, locate the folder labeled as
“removable disk” and double click on this folder.
LOCATE THE MUSIC STORED ON YOUR COMPUTER
1. Locate the folder containing the music you wish to transfer to your player. Under Windows
XP and Vista, the folder “my music” located in the start menu will often contain most of your
downloaded songs.
2. Open the folder containing the music you wish to transfer. Select the song or songs you wish to
transfer by holding down the “shift” key and selecting each one with 1 click of the left mouse
button. At the top of the folder, select “Edit” and then “copy” from the drop down menu.
TRANSFER THE MUSIC FROM YOUR COMPUTER TO THE PLAYER
Locate the folder of the music player (listed as “removable disk” under my computer). Under the
folder, select “edit” and “paste” from the drop down menu. The songs you previously copied will now
be added to this folder.

DISCONNECTING THE PLAYER FROM THE COMPUTER
After you have completed transferring all your music to the player, you must disconnect your player
from the computer. Under “my computer” right click on the removable disk icon and select “eject”
from the drop down menu. You may now unplug your player from the USB cable, and the songs will
now be available to play.

SYSTEM SETTING OPTIONS
The Main System Menu has 7 selections: Heart Rate, System Time, Backlight, Language, Power-Off,
Contrast, System Info and Exit. Each setting is identified by an icon and by name in the display screen.
To access the System Menu:
1. PRESS & HOLD the
(MENU) key.
2. Scroll from Music to System by PRESSING the (BACK/REWIND) or (FORWARD/FF)
keys.
3. Select System by PRESSING (MENU).
NOTE: You may exit a Programming Sequence at any time by PRESSING & HOLDING (MENU). Select
the Music (MSC) icon to resume operating mode.

PROGRAMMING HEART THE RATE SETTINGS
SETTING USER PROFILE
1. Scroll through System Options by PRESSING the
(BACK/REWIND) or (FORWARD/FF)
keys.
2. Select Heart Rate by PRESSING (MENU).
3. Scroll through options by pressing PRESSING or .
4. Select Profile by PRESSING .
5. Select Gender by PRESSING .
6. Adjust Gender (M=male, F=female) by PRESSING or . PRESS to set.
7. Advance to Birthday by PRESSING . PRESS to select.
8. Adjust Day, Month and Year by by PRESSING or . PRESS to set.
9. Advance to Units of Measure (Imperial or Metric) by PRESSING or . PRESS to
select.
10. Scroll through Metric or Imperial by PRESSING
or . PRESS to select.
NOTE: If Metric is selected, height will be measured in meters and weight in kilograms. If Imperial is selected, height
will be measured in feet and inches and weight in pounds.
11. Advance to set Height by PRESSING . PRESS to select.
12. Adjust Height by PRESSING or . PRESS to set.
13. Advance to set Weight by PRESSING . PRESS to select.
14. Adjust Weight by PRESSING or . PRESS to set.

PROGRAMMING THE HEART RATE SETTINGS
The Sportline META 1075 has 4 selectable Target Heart Rate Zones. Three are preset in conjunction
with your User Profile (see previous page “Setting User Profile”): Active, Fat Burn and Endurance. The
fourth is User Defined and programmable in single-beat increments.
SELECTING YOUR TARGET HEART RATE ZONE
Active Zone: 50-60% of estimated maximum heart rate
This zone is ideal for fitness beginners on a low to moderate intensity program.
Fat Burning Zone: 55-75% of estimated maximum heart rate
Strengthens the cardiovascular system and nearly all the calories burned are from fats.
Endurance Zome: 68-80% of estimated maximum heart rate
Requires more intense aerobic activity and is perfect for fitness enthusiasts working to burn maximum
calories from fat and carbohydrates. Cardiovascular strengthening, increased metabolism and elevated
caloric burn are the primary benefits.

SETTING TARGET HEART RATE ZONE
1. From the Main Menu, select System > Heart Rate > Target Zone.
2. Scroll through zone selections by PRESSING
or . PRESS to select.
3. If User Defined is selected, you will need to program the upper and lower zone ranges. Scroll to
User Defined by PRESSING or . PRESS to select lower or upper zone limit.
4. Adjust lower zone limit by PRESSING or . PRESS to set.
5. Scroll to upper zone limit by by PRESSING or . PRESS to select.
6. Scroll to User Defined in the menu by PRESSING or . PRESS to select and return to
Heart Rate menu.
NOTE: You may exit a Programming Sequence at any time by PRESSING & HOLDING (MENU). Select the
Music (MSC) icon to resume operating mode.

heart rate and notifies you when you are out of your selected Target Heart Rate Zone.
