GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided
with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric
shock, fire and/or serious injury.
SAVE ALL WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool
or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
WORK AREA SAFETY
• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of
flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust
or fumes.
• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can
cause you to lose control.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not
use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and
matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators,

connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.

the switch on invites accidents.
• Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or
a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
• Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better
control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and
clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught
in moving parts.
• If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection
facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can
reduce dust-related hazards.
• Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become

POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The
correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool
that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
• Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if

• Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical
replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
CIRCULAR SAW SAFETY WARNINGS
1. DANGER! Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. If both hands are holding
the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.
2. Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you from the blade
below the workpiece.
3. Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a full tooth of the
blade teeth should be visible below the workpiece.
4. Never hold piece being cut in your hands or across your leg. Secure the workpiece to a
stable platform. It is important to support the work properly to minimize body exposure,
blade binding, or loss of control.
5. Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the
cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact with a ″live″ wire will also
make exposed metal parts of the power tool ″live″ and shock the operator.
6. When ripping always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. This improves the accuracy
of cut and reduces the chance of blade binding.
7. Always use blades with correct size and shape (diamond versus round) of arbor holes.
Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run eccentrically,
causing loss of control.
8. Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolt. The blade washers and bolt
were specially designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation.
9. Causes and Operator Prevention of Kickback:
• Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, bound or misaligned saw blade, causing an
uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward the operator;
• When the blade is pinched or bound tightly by the kerf closing down, the blade stalls and
the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back toward the operator;
• If the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut, the teeth at the back edge of the
blade can dig into the top surface of the wood causing the blade to climb out of the kerf
and jump back toward the operator.
Kickback is the result of saw misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions
and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below:
a. Maintain a firm grip on the saw and position your arms to resist kickback forces. Position
your body to either side of the blade, but not in line with the blade. Kickback could cause
the saw to jump backwards, but kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if
proper precautions are taken.
b. When blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut for any reason, release the trigger and
hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop. Never
attempt to remove the saw from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in
motion or kickback may occur. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the
cause of blade binding.
c. When restarting a saw in the workpiece, center the saw blade in the kerf and check that
saw teeth are not engaged into the material. If saw blade is binding, it may walk up or
kickback from the workpiece as the saw is restarted.
d. Support large panels to minimize the risk of blade pinching and kickback. Large panels
tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the panel on both
sides, near the line of cut and near the edge of the panel.
e. Do not use dull or damaged blades. Unsharpened or improperly set blades produce
narrow kerf causing excessive friction, blade binding and kickback.
f. Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making
cut. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it may cause binding and kickback.
g. Use extra caution when making a ″plunge cut″ into existing walls or other blind areas.
The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause kickback.

10. Check guard for proper closing before each use. Do not operate the saw if guard does
not move freely and enclose the blade instantly. Never clamp or tie the guard with the
blade exposed. If saw is accidentally dropped, guard may be bent. Check to make
sure that guard moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part, in all
angles and depths of cut.
11. Check the operation and condition of the guard return spring. If the guard and the
spring are not operating properly, they must be serviced before use. Guard may
operate sluggishly due to damaged parts, gummy deposits, or a build-up of debris.
12. Assure that the guide plate of the saw will not shift while performing the ″plunge cut″
when the blade bevel setting is not at 90°. Blade shifting sideways will cause binding
and likely kick back.
13. Always observe that the guard is covering the blade before placing saw down on bench
or floor. An unprotected, coasting blade will cause the saw to walk backwards, cutting
whatever is in its path. Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop after trigger
is released.
14. DO NOT USE THIS SAW WITH THE SAW HELD UPSIDE DOWN IN A VISE. The saw
is not designed for such use and cannot be used safely in that position.
15. Do not use to cut logs, tree limbs, or uneven lumber.
16. Wet lumber, green (unseasoned) lumber, and pressure treated lumber all have an
increased potential for kickback and should only be cut with a blade for cutting that
lumber type. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator and have appropriate ventilation
whenever cutting pressure treated lumber.
17. Do not use blades made from high-speed steel, abrasive blades, metal cutting blades
or masonry cutting blades. The guards of this saw are not designed to protect against
the failure of such blades.
18. Place the larger portion of the saw base on the larger, supported part of the workpiece.
This will help maintain balance and control while the cut is completed.
19. Blades must be rated to at least the maximum speed marked on the tool.
20. Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool. These carry important safety information.
21. Avoid unintentional starting. Prepare to begin work before turning on the tool.
22. Do not lay the tool down until it has come to a complete stop. Moving parts can grab
the surface and pull the tool out of your control.
23. When using a handheld power tool, maintain a firm grip on the tool with both hands to
resist starting torque.
24. Do not depress the spindle lock when starting or during operation.
25. Do not leave the tool unattended when it is plugged into an electrical outlet. Turn off
the tool, and unplug it from its electrical outlet before leaving.
26. This product is not a toy. Keep it out of reach of children.

be built into this product, but must be supplied
by the operator.
120V OPERATION
As received from the factory, your Toe-Kick saw
is ready to run for 120V operation. This Toe-Kick
saw is intended for use on a circuit that has an
outlet and a plug which looks like the one
illustrated in Fig.1.
DOUBLE INSULATION
Double insulated tools are equipped with a
polarized two-prong plug (one blade is wider
than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized
outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully
into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install
a polarized outlet. Do not alter or change the plug in any way. Double insulation eliminates
the need for three wire grounded power supply and grounded power cords.
EXTENSION CORDS
Improper use of extension cords may cause inefficient operation of your tool which can
result in overheating. Be sure your extension cord is rated to allow sufficient current flow
to the motor. If you are using the tool outdoors, use an extension cord rated for outdoor
use (signified by “WA” on the jacket).
The extension cord must have a minimum wire size depending on the amperage of the
tool (15 Amps.) and the length of the extension cord. This size is determined by its AWG
(American Wire Gauge) rating. The smaller the gauge, the greater the cable’s capacity.
The amount of cords used does not matter: Total length determines the minimum AWG
rating. Every cord must meet the AWG rating. Use the chart shown in Fig.2 to determine
what AWG rating is required for your situation. Cord length is rated in feet.

GETTING TO KNOW
YOUR TOE-KICK SAW
Unpacking
Your Toe-Kick Saw has been shipped completely assembled. Inspect it carefully to make
sure no breakage or damage has occurred during transport. If any parts are missing, do
not attempt to use the tool until you have obtained the missing parts from your King Cana-
da retailer.
Getting to know your Toe-Kick Saw
1. Fixed guard.

ADJUSTMENTS & OPERATION
CHANGING THE BLADE
1. Make sure the Toe-Kick Saw is unplugged from
the power source.
2. Press the spindle lock button (A) Fig.3, turn
blade until the spindle locks, to prevent the
blade from turning.
3. Using the supplied 5mm hex. key, loosen and
remove the countersunk hd allen screw (A)
Fig.4, remove the blade (B), then remove the
rear blade flange (C).
4. Clean the rear blade flange (C) Fig.4 (and arbor
shaft) and reinstall it. Reinstall an identical
blade making sure the blade teeth are facing
the direction of rotation (counterclockwise
viewed from the bottom). A replacement blade
model KW-170 is available, contact your
nearest King Canada product retailer for more
information.
5. Reposition the blade countersunk hd allen
screw (A) Fig.4 into the spindle shaft. Before
tightening securely, make sure the blade is
centered and seated properly on the rear blade
flange (C) Fig.4.
6. Depress the spindle lock button (A) Fig.3 to lock
the spindle to prevent the blade from turning
and tighten the countersunk head screw
securely using the 5mm hex. key.
7. Make sure the lock mechanism has disengaged
and the blade is spinning freely before turning
tool on.
ADJUSTING THE DEPTH OF CUT
WARNING: Before attempting to use your
Toe-Kick saw, the depth of cut must be set.
1. Set the Toe-Kick saw on its base and stand.
2. This Toe-Kick Saw comes with 4 depth of cut
settings (1/4”, 3/8”, 5/8”, 3/4”). Simply rotate the
depth of cut plate (A) Fig.5 until the desired
depth of cut is set.
NOTE: Fig.5 shows the depth of cut plate set for 3/8” depth of cut (B) Fig.5.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious injury, adjust the depth of cut to just barely clear
the workpiece.

OPERATION & MAINTENANCE
SWITCH OPERATION
To turn the Toe-Kick Saw on, first the safety lock
button (A) Fig.6 must be depressed, then depress
the trigger (B). Release the trigger to stop the tool.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
1. Make sure that all guards are in place and
functioning correctly before operation.
2. Position the Toe-Kick Saw at an angle, then
lower it to the floor surface.
3. Grip Handles firmly.
4. Press and hold the safety button with your
thumb, and at the same time, squeeze the
trigger to start the Toe-Kick saw.
5. Once the Toe-Kick saw turns on, release the
safety button. Once motor reaches full speed,
begin to move the tool slowly forward and away from your body to complete the cut.
Warning: If you hear a loud grinding noise, the blade is probably coming in contact with
the cement foundation. Immediately raise the blade and adjust depth of cut.
Caution: Never pull the Toe-Kick Saw backwards towards your body since the blade will
climb out of the cut and kickback will occur.
6. When the cut is complete, release the trigger and hold the Toe-Kick Saw in place until
the blade comes to a complete stop. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
MAINTENANCE
All the ball bearings are sealed and lubricated for
life and will require no maintenance.
Cleaning
After use, wipe off chips and dust adhering to the
tool with cloth or the like. Keep the blade guards
and covers clean . Lubricate the sliding portions
with machine oil to prevent rust.
To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY,
repairs, any other maintenance or adjustment
should be performed by your nearest authorized
service center.
REPLACING CARBON BRUSHES
Remove and check the carbon brushes regularly
(normally after 40-50 hours of use). Replace when
they wear down to the limit mark (A) Fig.8. Keep
the carbon brushes clean and free to slip in the
holders. Both carbon brushes should be replaced
at the same time. Use only identical carbon
brushes.
Using a screwdriver remove the brush holder cap (A) Fig.7. Take out the worn carbon
brush (B), insert a new one and secure the brush holder cap. Repeat for the opposite side.
