Software
1. Software
Download the IFM software “VES004 - Parameter Software for VSE and VNB devices” from
https://www.ifm.com/dk/da/downloadarea/iStepContent. It demands an IFM login.
Make sure the selected country corresponds to your user profile country.

Connect to device
2. Connect to device
Open the VES004 software and start a new project with the used device, typically VSE153.
Project →New ...
Device →New →Vibration monitor →Diagnostics Electronics VSE153 (Modbus TCP).

Connect to device
Connect the VSE153-module (port 1 – config) by an Ethernet cable to the PC.

Connect to device
If device is found, right-click “Assign device”.
Device →Connect.
Possible errors when connecting
“Unable to connect to device” – Check your network settings as described below.
“Connection to device has been interrupted” – Ensure that VPN clients, e. g. Zscaler, are
disabled.
Note: In order to connect to the device, follow the guide below for network settings on the PC.
The tables below show the factory settings of the VSE module.
The section below from the VSE004 manual describes the procedure.
The IP address of the configuration port of the VSE module will be: 10.15.20.XX.
The setting is also found by:
• [Start] →[Control Panel] →[Network and Sharing Center] →[Change adapter settings]
• Right-click [Ethernet] →[Properties]
• Go to Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) →[Properties] →[Alternate Configuration]
→User configured
(here e.g. 10.15.20.99)

Connect to device
• Set the IP address to 10.15.20.99
• Set the Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.

• Open Networks Connections by
• Win+R →cpalaunch networks
• Right-click Ethernet →Properties
• Go to Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) →Properties →Alternate Configuration.

VSE153 settings
3. VSE153 settings
The Modbus TCP IP address should be set according to project specification.
The default address is:
Modbus TCP
IP address 10.15.20.11
Port 502
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway [blank]
Be aware that the Modbus TCP IP address may be project specific, e.g. if there are multiple
units for the same project.
When the Modbus TCP IP address is changed, the change is downloaded to the module by
“Write Modbus TCP configuration to the device” under Modbus TCP configuration.
Note: The button “write modbus TCP configuration to the device” is not the same as the gener-
al “write to device” in the shortcut line, even though the symbols are similar. Modbus IP ad-
dress changes must be downloaded to the device from the Modbus TCP configuration menu.
Note: IP setting must be done separately, as IP settings are not part of the general parameter
import/export data.

\Valid_sets, and choose the appropriate set.

6. Compare parameter set to parameters on module
When working with parameter sets in the VES004 software and on the VSE153 module, it is
useful to be able to compare the settings in the software with those on the module without
reading from or writing to the module.
It is recommended to always run this comparison check when finishing writing parameters to
the module. This will show if there are any distinctions between the parameter set in the soft-
ware and on the module. A comparison check is run by:
