Invacare Polaris EX ISP4000 is a heated humidifier designed for use with the Polaris EX CPAP device. It moistens the air delivered by the CPAP, which can help to relieve dryness and irritation in the nose and throat. B. Removethesmallmountingscrewonthebottomofthe
PolarisEXCPAPelectricalcoverplateandsetaside.
C. SlidetheelectricalcoverplateofftheCPAPrevealing
thehumidifierconnection.SetasidetheCPAP.
2. Separatethewaterreservoirassemblyandtheheated
humidifierbyperformingthefollowing(Detail”B”):
A. Holdtheheatedhumidifierinonehand.Graspthe
waterreservoirassemblywithyourotherhand.

1. PlacetheassembledCPAPandhumidifieronafirm,flat
surfaceatalevellowerthanyoursleepingposition.
2. Removeandrinseoutthewaterreservoirassembly.Refer
toCleaningWaterReservoirAssemblyonpage 15.
CAUTION
ALWAYS remove the water reservoir assembly from the
heated humidifier before filling with water.
3. Fillthewaterreservoirassemblytothefilllinewithwater
(approx.cupsor350ml).Invacarerecommendsusing
distilledwater .DONOToverfillthewaterreservoir
assembly.
4. Replacethereservoircap.
NOTE:Reservoircaponlyneedstobefingertighttoensureproper
seal.
CAUTION
ALWAYS reattach the water reservoir assembly to the
heated humidifier immediately after filling with water.
Allowing water to sit in the reservoir when it is not
connected to the humidifier may cause the reservoir plate
to separate from the reservoir causing water to leak.
Take precautions to protect furniture from water
damage.

5. Reattachthewaterreservoirassemblytothehumidifier.
NOTE:Ensurethattheairinletofthehumidifierelbowintheback
ofthewaterreservoirassemblyslipssecurelyoverthehumidifierair
outlet.
6. Connectthesixft.flexibletubetothereservoiroutletport
onthereservoircap.
CAUTION
Avoid moving or tilting the humidifier when the water
reservoir assembly is filled.
DO NOT turn the humidifier on without the water
reservoir assembly installed.
7. Preheatthewaterbeforeturningontheair flowandbefore
goingtobedbypressingtheheatedhumidifierbutton
()ontheCPAPdevice.Theword“HEAT”willappear
onthedisplayscreenandtheGREENheatedhumidifier
indicatorlightontheCPAPwillturnon.
CAUTION
The preheat mode will end and the heater plate will turn
off after 20 minutes if the CPAP air flow is not turned on.
If you do not wish to pre-heat the water, you can press the
heated humidifier button after the air flow is turned on.
8. Toadjustthetemperaturesettingoftheheatedhumidifier,
performthefollowing:
A. Pressandholdtheheatedhumidifierbuttononthe
CPAPdeviceuntilthebarscalesofthehumidifier
screenappear.
NOTE:Eachbarthatappearsrepresentsfivedegrees.Asinglebar
representsawatertemperaturesettingof70°F(21°C),
whilesixteen
barsrepresentsawatertemperaturesettingof145°F(63°C).

NOTE:Theidealhumiditysettingdependsonroomtemperature
andhumidity.Initially,asettingof8bars(105°F/40.5°C)is
recommendedandisthefactorydefault.Youcanadjustthissetting
atanytime.
NOTE:Ifnohumidificationisneeded,theCPAPcanbeused
withoutremovingtheheatedhumidifierandwaterreservoir
assembly.Turnthehumidifieroff.
CAUTION
The humidifier turns on whenever the temperature
settings menu is entered on the CPAP. However, it will
turn off in 20 minutes if the air flow is not turned on.

WARNING
To prevent electrical shock, ALWAYS disconnect the
CPAP power cord before cleaning the humidifier
platform. DO NOT immerse the humidifier platform,
CPAP device or power cord into any fluids.
Allow the water in the reservoir to cool down to room
temperature before removing the water reservoir assem-
bly from the humidifier.
Cleaning Water Reservoir Assembly
WARNING
Emptying and cleaning the water reservoir assembly daily
will help to prevent mold and bacteria growth.
NOTE:Forthisprocedure,refertoFIGURE 6.1.
1. TurntheCPAPdeviceoffandallowapproximately15
minutesfortheheaterplateandwatertocool.
2. Disconnectthesixfootflexibletubefromthereservoircap.
3. Pressdownonthewaterreservoirassemblyandslideit
outofthehumidifierplatform.
4. Removethe
reservoircap.
5. Discardanyremainingwater .

dishwashersafewhenplacedintheupperrackandfully

7. Fillthewaterreservoirassemblyandinspectforanyleaks
ordamage.Replaceifnecessary.
8. Rinsewithcleanwaterandallowtoairdry.
9. Refillwithdistilledwaterifyouwillusethehumidifier
immediately.Otherwise,keepthereservoiremptyuntil
futureuse.

To prevent leaks, ensure that the thin flange is completely
inside the water reservoir and that the air outlet points
