Specifications and Installation Instructions for Control System
This document describes the features for the 12-Channel Infrared Remote Control system for operation of a motorized
screen.
Overview
The system includes a 12-channel transmitter, a programmable receiver, and an IR sensor. The receiver is capable of
switching a 4-wire bi-directional motor rated 1/3 HP at 120VAC. A receiver operating on 220VAC is available by
special order.
The following features are supported by the programmable receiver:
Set Channel
Set Action Mode
Set Manual Input Switch Mode
Set Motor Direction Mode
Set ALL button Mode
Set Motor Run Time
The transmitter has individual OPEN and CLOSE buttons for each of the 12 channels plus the ALL OPEN,
ALL CLOSE and STOP buttons.
Power and motor connections to the receiver are made as shown in Figure 1. All AC in wires should be of minimum
18 gauge wire, stranded or solid wire. Only one wire per connection.
Installation Guide for Programmable Remote Receiver
1. Referring to Figure 1, locate and mount the IR sensor with the lens aims into room and in the line of sight of the
expected transmitting location. The sensor may be extended up to 50 feet away using standard 4-wire telephone
cable with adaptor (splitter) joining the two cables. Be sure to plug the IR sensor to the jack labeled ‘EYE’.
Figure 1
NOTE:
The IR sensor cable and override wires should not be run next to power lines, and should be kept at least
18 inches away if ran parallel to a power line. If they must go near power lines, they should cross at a
right angle. Running next to a power line that has a motor turning on or off may induce a voltage in the

low voltage line, that look like a button push and the screen may move. They may need to be shielded if
running near noisy power lines.
2. The jack labeled ‘AUX’ allows for multiple receivers to be connected together and using only one IR sensor. Be
sure to program each receiver with a different channel before connecting (Daisy chain) them together. The
connecting cable must be a straight through type; meaning the wires does not change their pin position at both
ends of the plugs.
3. Any one of the twelve channels may be selected for the receiver. See Programming the Receiver Section for
instructions. Factory default is channel 1.
4. Factory default for Action Mode is ‘Maintained’.
Momentary - A button push of less than 1 second powers the motor for the time the button is held. A
button pushes longer than 1 second turns the power on for 3 minutes. Another push of either the open or
the close button causes the motor to stop. Holding this button longer than 1 second will turn the power
on in the new direction.
Maintained - Pushing either button turns power on for 3 minutes. Another push of either button, or the
STOP button, causes the motor to stop.
5. The receiver provides for a manual override switch using low voltage wiring. The override switch takes
precedence over the remote. The override switch may be a SPDT center off, momentary switch, which operates
the same as hand held transmitter. Alternatively, it may be a SPST maintained switch (see Figure 2) which
operates as follow: Open the contacts for the screen to open. Close the contacts for the screen to close.
This SPST override is ideal for simple and low cost connection to a Lutron, LiteTouch, or similar lighting control
system, or connection to a home automation system.
Factory default for Manual Input Switch Mode is ‘SPDT’.
6. The Motor Direction Mode provides for ‘Standard’ and ‘Reversed’ motor rotations.
Standard is OPEN lead closest to the edge, reverse is CLOSE lead closest to the edge. Factory default is
‘Standard’.
7. Factory default for ALL button Mode is ‘Enabled’. However, for Duplex screen, the default is ‘Disabled’.
Only one screen can be operated at a time in a Duplex screen unit.
8. The run time for the motor is now remotely programmable. Minimum time is 1 second, max is 299 seconds, in 1
second increments. This will reduce the “3 minute” window where 2 button pushes are needed because the
previous command is still on but the motor has stopped. The default run time is 3 minutes.

Please read this through before trying to program a receiver the receiver will exit program mode if you stop to read
this page during programming! Also, make sure you have a programming transmitter it will have a white spot on the
PC board visible when the battery door is open.
Programming the Receiver
The following settings are factory defaults:
Channel Channel 1
Action Mode Maintained
Manual Input Switch Mode SPDT
Motor Direction Mode Standard
ALL button Mode Enabled
Run Time 3 minutes
To Enter Program Mode
Press the STOP, OPEN_7 and CLOSE_7 buttons all simultaneously, then release all three buttons, within 6
seconds.
Press OPEN_#, where # is the channel of the receiver to be programmed. Initially, this would be OPEN_1.
The Red LED on the receiver must now be lit, if it is not, repeat the above steps. Be sure the OPEN_# is correctly
entered.
To Exit Program Mode
Press the STOP button; the Red LED will go off.
If you do not give the receiver any commands for 20 seconds while in program mode; it will exit by itself.
For all of the following actions, the Red LED must be on:
