KBS3 Remote Keyboard
Set-up and operation guide
Connecting the Remote Keyboard
The remote keyboard is supplied with a 2m length of 485-bus cable; this is used to connect the
keyboard to either of the 485-bus ports on the Dedicated Micros DVR.
The remote keyboard can also be connected over longer distances, up to 1500m (4900ft), using
2 junction boxes (DM/CJ01), a 12v 1A PSU, and the required length of twisted pair cable, for
example CAT5.
The remote keyboard is compatible with the following Dedicated Micros Digital Recorders:
Digital Sprite 2 range.
BX2 range.
D4 range.
A single remote keyboard can be connected to multiple (up to 16) DS2 or BX2 units. Multiple
remote keyboards can be connected to a single DS2 or BX2 unit.
The D4 unit supports a single remote keyboard and a keyboard can only be connected to a
single D4.
Operating DM’s DVR range from the remote keyboard
The remote keyboard has the same functionality as the front panel keyboard, but gives the
following additional benefits:
Control of telemetry connected to the Digital Sprite.
DS2 range and BX2 range – Coaxial and Serial telemetry.
D4 range – serial telemetry only.
Control of multiple DS2 or BX2 units from a single keyboard.**
Panic alarm.
** Only a single keyboard can be connected to a D4.
Description of keys:
Key Function
Toggle freeze frame on and off.
Selects Live mode.
Selects operation of the spot monitor.
Selects a full screen display.

Toggle sequence on and off, press and hold to edit the sequence (Red
button).
Select picture in picture display, press and hold to edit the display
(Green button).
Select quad display, press and hold to edit the display (Yellow button).
Select multiscreen display; tap to switch displays to 9, 8+2, 12+1, and 16
way views. Press and hold to edit the display (Blue button).
Toggle the panic alarm on and off.
Press 'UNIT SELECT' followed by a camera key to log onto another unit.
Press to enter telemetry commands with certain receivers.
Tap to enter the User menu, press and hold to enter the Installer menu.
Tap to enter the Event Log, press and hold to filter the event log.
Tap to go to a specified time and date.
Press and hold to enter the copy menu (see 'Operating Digital Sprite 2'
card for details of copying to CD).
Tap to enter a value. For example, Preset 01 could be entered as preset
1 [ENTER].

Use the VCR style buttons to playback images from the disk.

Camera keys press to select a camera to display.
Tap 'PRESET' and enter the preset number you wish to recall (camera
10 is number 0), i.e. preset 20 is camera 2 and camera 10. Press and
hold to save a preset.
Zoom in (or twist the joystick clockwise).
Zoom out (or twist the joystick anti-clockwise).
Toggle the Patrol mode on and off.
Press and hold to focus near.
Press and hold to focus far.
Toggle the auto-pan function on and off.
Press and hold to close the iris.
Press and hold to open the iris.
Toggle lights on and off.
Press to wash (momentary).
Toggle wipe on and off.
Note: The above features are only applicable if the telemetry receiver or dome supports them.
LCD Display
The remote keyboard has an LCD display which displays information such as; the unit name,
date, time, and unit number.
Changing the contrast of the LCD display
It is possible to change the contrast of the LCD display, to change the contrast:
1. Tap the UNIT SELECT key.
2. Tap the
×
or
Ø
keys to increase or decrease the contrast from 1 to 15 (default setting is 8).
3. Tap the UNIT SELECT key again to go back to normal operation.
Recalibrating the joystick
If the telemetry camera drifts when it is not being used, the joystick may have to be recalibrated.
To do this:
1. Un-plug the keyboard from the system.
2. Press and hold the (star) button while re-connecting the keyboard to the system.
3. The keyboard will beep.
4. Continue to hold until the keyboard beeps again and the display shows Calibrate Joystick.
5. Rotate the joystick through it’s complete range of motion in all directions until the camera key
LED’s stop flashing.
6. Twist the joystick zoom fully left and right.
7. The joystick is now calibrated; press the (star) button again to return to normal operation.
Changing the Keyboard number
It may be necessary to change the keyboard number if you have multiple keyboards on a site.
To change the keyboard number:
1. Connect the keyboard to the 485-bus port whilst holding down the UNIT SELECT key.
2. Press a camera key to set the keyboard to that keyboard number.
3. The keyboard number is now configured.
