Overview
The GXP280/285 is a next generation entry-level SIP phone that features an LCD screen
and 3 soft-keys. The GXP280/285 delivers superior audio quality, comprehensive telephony
features, automated provisioning, security protection for privacy and broad interoperability
with most 3rd party SIP devices and leading SIP telephony platforms. It is very cost-
effective choice for any business needing a feature rich basic IP phone.
Precautions
Warning: Please DO NOT power cycle the GXP280/285 when the LED lights are flashing
during system boot up or firmware upgrade. You may corrupt firmware images and cause
the unit to malfunction.
Warning: Use only the power adapter included in the GXP280/285 package. Using an
alternative non-qualified power adapter may possibly damage the unit.

Installation
* Please use the equipment included in the packaging. Using any other power source may
damage the product.
1. Connect the handset and main phone case with the phone cord.
2. Connect the LAN port of the phone to the RJ-45 socket of a hub/switch or a router
(LAN side of the router) using the Ethernet cable.
3. Connect the 5V DC output plug to the power jack on the phone; plug the power
adapter into an electrical outlet.
4. The LCD will display provisioning or firmware upgrade information. Before continuing,
please wait for the date/time to show up.
5. Using the phone embedded web server or keypad configuration menu, you can
further configure the phone using a static IP or DHCP.

1. To access the MENU,
press the round [Menu]
button.
2. Navigate the MENU by
using the [Up/Down] and
[Left/Right] buttons.
3. Press the round MENU
button to confirm a MENU
selection.
4. Delete an entry by pressing
the [Mute] button.
The phone automatically exits
MENU mode when there is an
incoming call, the phone goes
off-hook, or when the MENU
mode is left idle for 20
seconds.

Setting-up GRANDSTREAM GXP280
* Ensure that the phone is powered-up and connected to the Internet.
1. Verify the device’s IP address.
Press [Menu] ! Select [Status] to display the IP address.
2. Open Settings Page on Web Browser.
GXP280 and PC’s network connection should be the same. Type the IP address on
the Web browser field on a local PC. [Format: http://IPAddress ! Example: Phone IP
address (192.168.001.002) ! Type (http://192.168.1.2)]
3. Enter password and click [Login]. Default password: [admin].
4. On the displayed Grandstream Device configuration Page, click [Basic Settings].
Time Zone: Select time zone [GMT+9:00 (Japan, Korea, Yakutsk)].
Date Display Format: Select [Year-Month-Day]. Click [Update] to save changes.

5. On the displayed Grandstream Device configuration Page, click [Advanced Settings].
The following settings should be left in default:
G723 rate: 6.3 kbps encoding rate Data VLAN Tag: 1: 0 2: 0 3: 0
iLBC frame size: 20 ms No Key Entry Timeout: 4
iLBC payload type: 97 Use # as Dial Key: Yes
Silence Suppression: No Keep-alive interval: 20
Voice Frames per TX: 2
Layer 3 QoS: 48
Layer 2 QoS: 802.1 Q/VLAN Tag 0 802.1p priority value 0

NTP Server: Enter [ntp.jst.mfeed.ad.jp].
Disable Call Waiting: Select [Yes] to enable call waiting. Select [No] to disable call waiting.
Headset TX gain (dB): Set to [0 dB].
Headset RX gain (dB): Set to [0 dB].
Click [Update] to save changes made.

6. On the displayed Grandstream Device configuration Page, click [Account].
Account Name: Enter Unique ID.
SIP Server: Enter VoIP Server.
Outbound Proxy: Enter VoIP Server.
SIP User ID: Enter Unique ID.
Authenticate ID. Enter Unique ID.
Authenticate Password: Enter Password.
Name: Enter Unique ID.
NAT Traversal (STUN): Select [No, but send keep-alive].
Voicemail User ID: Enter 999.
Send DTMF: Check [in-audio] and [via RTP (RFC 2833)].
Preferred Vocoder: Select from [Choice 1 ~ Choice 8].
Click [Update] to save changes. Then, click [Reboot] to reboot the device and save new
configurations.

Precautions & Safety Instructions
The following instructions help use Grandstream GXP280/285 properly
and prevent accidents. Failure to follow these instructions would void the
product’s warranty and accident may happen.
Immediately unplug the device from the power supply if there is a strange
smell and smoke. Don’t use the device and immediately contact the dealer
for repair. Do not disassemble or modify. The device may malfunction,
cause electric shock and fire.
Do not insert metal and keep the device dry. The device may malfunction,
cause electric shock and fire.
Do not touch the device when lightning occurs. Doing so may cause an
electrical shock. Don’t place near a flammable material. This may cause
fire or explosion.
Holding the phone on wet hands may cause electric shock. Don’t place the
device in an extreme hot or cold place. Sudden temperature change may
cause malfunction of the device.
Do not place in a damp, dusty or direct sunlight. This may trigger an
explosion of the device. Place in an even and stable location.
Do not place the phone and earpiece near an absorbent and magnet
material. This may cause malfunction.
Troubleshooting
Please check the troubleshooting procedure before requesting a repair. If the

Initialization Method
Clear all data initialization process. You must set all the required information to
start initializing your service again.
1. Note the (000B82000xxxx) MAC address located at the bottom of the unit.
2. Press the [MENU] button and select [Config]. Then, select [Factory Reset]
and confirm by selecting [OK].
