The hair clippers can be used with a mains connection at any time regardless of the
battery charge level.
6.3. Accessories
6.3.1. Scissors (7)
Use the scissors (7) to cut hair by hand in hard to reach areas.
6.3.2 Blade Oil (8)
After each cleaning, apply a few drops of blade oil (8) to the cutter block (1) to maintain the
free movement of the cutter block (1).
SilverCrest SHBV 800 A1
12 -
6.3.3. Comb (9)
Before using the hair clippers, thoroughly comb the hair or beard with the
Comb (9) thoroughly to get out any knots.
6.3.4. Cleaning Brush (10)
Use the cleaning brush (10) to remove any remaining hair from the cutter block (1).
6.3.5. Comb attachment (11)
The comb attachment (11) is adjustable in 10 steps. This lets you preset the remaining length of
the cut hair between 1/16 inch and 5/8 inch (1.5mm and 16mm). To do this, proceed as
follows:
1. Press and hold the locking mechanism of the comb attachment (11).
2. Slide the comb attachment (11) to the desired remaining length and release the locking
mechanism.
The small arrow on the comb attachment (11) points to the scale (12) that indicates the current
length setting.
The hair clippers can also be used without the comb attachment (11).
To remove the comb attachment (11), press and hold the release mechanism and slide the
comb attachment (11) up out of its guide until you can take it off.
When mounting the comb attachment (11), make sure it sits correctly in the guide. Slide it
down slowly until you hear it lock into place.
SilverCrest SHBV 800 A1
- 13
7. Initial Use
The hair clippers have a vacuum function that draws the cut hair in after cutting and
collects it in a hair reservoir (2).
Please note that how well the vacuum function works largely depends on the length
of the cut hair.
It works best with short stubble.
7.1. Cutting Hair
The hair clippers can be used either in battery mode or with a connected mains adapter (6).
Take care when shaving areas of the body with thinner skin
(for example, armpits or pubic area). There is a risk of injury.
The hair being cut must be dry.
Depending on the cutting angle, the cutting length may deviate from the cutting
length specified on the scale (12).
First familiarize yourself with the hair clippers and try to hold them so that the on/off
button (3) can be pressed at any time. Please make sure that it rests securely in your
hand.
Comb the hair thoroughly first.
Adjust the comb attachment (11) to obtain the desired cutting length.
If you are not sure which cutting length is right for you, start with a long setting and
then change to a smaller one if you need to.
Switch on the hair clippers with the on/off button (3).
Always switch on the hair clippers first before you start cutting. This will prevent the
blades from getting blocked.
Apply the hair clippers so the face of the cutter block (1) can move parallel to the skin.
Always move the hair clippers through the hair as evenly as possible.
To avoid injury or skin irritation when cutting in folds of the skin or areas with thinner
skin, you should stretch the skin with your fingers.
Start cutting the hair at the back of the neck or sides and cut towards the crown. Then cut
the hair at the front, also towards the crown.
Ideally you cut against the direction of hair growth.
To cut all of the hair, move the hair clippers over the same section of hair several times.
Combing through the hair occasionally is recommended.
SilverCrest SHBV 800 A1
14 -
For cutting lengths longer than 0.47 inch (12 mm), it is useful to move the hair clippers
through the hair several times in different directions. This results in a straight,
homogeneous cut.
You can also use the hair clippers without the comb attachment. Without the comb
attachment (11), the hair is cut close to the roots. This application is also suitable for
cutting contours and trimming sideburns.
7.2. Cutting Contours
Apply the front edge of the cutter block (1) at the desired height of the hairline. Now move the
hair clippers down with an even movement.
7.3. Beard Trimming
Comb the beard in the direction of growth with the supplied comb (9).
Trim the beard downward starting from the ear. First trim one side and then the other
side.
If you want to trim the beard very short, for trimming a mustache, or to cut contours, use
the hair clippers without a comb attachment (11).
Vary the cutting length as needed by adjusting the comb attachment (11) accordingly.
To trim the mustache, comb it straight down with the supplied comb (9). Start trimming in
the middle over the mouth and work your way out from there to one side and then the
other.
7.4. Emptying the Hair Reservoir (2)
For the vacuum function to work optimally, the hair reservoir (2) should be emptied after every
use:
To do so, flip open the hair reservoir cover (2) to the right and empty the hair reservoir (2).
You can remove remaining hair with the cleaning brush (10).
Then close the hair reservoir cover (2) to restore the vacuum function. You have to hear the
cover lock into place.
SilverCrest SHBV 800 A1
- 15
8. Cleaning/Maintenance
8.1. Cleaning
Always disconnect the mains adapter (6) from the socket and
the small plug of the mains adapter cable from the mains
adapter port (5) of the hair clippers before cleaning
commences. Switch the hair clippers off.
Never immerse the hair clippers in water or any other liquid.
Take off the comb attachment (11) if one is installed. The comb attachment (11) can be
cleaned using soapy water. Then dry it well.
The housing of the hair clippers can be wiped using a slightly damp cloth; never use any
aggressive cleaning agents.
Remove any remaining hair from the cutter block (1) and the hair reservoir (2) using the
cleaning brush (10).
For more intensive cleaning, you can remove the cutter block (1) from the hair clippers.
Use your thumb to press on the metal blade from the front until the cutter block (1) is
released from the head of the hair clippers. Remove the cutter block (1).
Remove any remaining hair from the head of the hair clippers and the removed cutter
block (1) using the cleaning brush (10). Then the cutter block (1) can be rinsed off under
running water. Dry the cutter block (1) thoroughly after cleaning. Work carefully to avoid
damaging the cutter block (1).
SilverCrest SHBV 800 A1
16 -
To ensure free movement of the cutter block (1), it must be oiled after cleaning. To do so,
apply a few drops of blade oil (8) to the blades of the cutter block (1).
Now reinstall the cutter block (1) into the head of the hair clippers:
1. Set the cutter block (1) onto the head of the hair clippers from above so that the guide
lug of the cutter block (1) engages in the groove on the head.
2. Push the cutter block (1) into the head until it engages audibly and fits tightly.
SilverCrest SHBV 800 A1
- 17
8.2. Maintenance
The cutter block (1) of the hair clippers is subject to constant wear resulting from use. To reduce
this wear to a minimum and keep the blades sharp, the cutter block (1) should be cleaned and
oiled after every use.
8.3. Storing the Device When Not in Use
If the hair clippers are not going to be used for a long period of time, clean as
described in the “Cleaning” section.
To help maintain the battery performance, you should charge it at regular intervals.
Store the hair clippers in a clean, cool, dry place.
9. Troubleshooting
9.1. The hair clippers do not seem to be working
The built-in battery is empty. Charge the battery.
Ensure that the power socket into which the mains adapter (6) is plugged is receiving
power. Try another power socket which is definitely receiving power.
9.2. The cutting results are not satisfactory
The cutter block (1) is dirty and/or not moving freely. Clean and oil the cutter block (1) as
described in the ‘Cleaning’ section.
9.3. The vacuum function is not working properly
How well the vacuum function works largely depends on the length of the cut hair.
It works best with short stubble.
The cut hair may be too long for the vacuum function. Shorten the hair in several stages if
necessary. The shorter the hair clippings are, the more effectively the vacuum function
works.
The hair reservoir (2) is full. Empty it before using the hair clippers.
