whenonslopes.Raisingtheattachmentona

slopeaffectsthestabilityofthemachine.

•Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedtolossofcontrol

slopeoruneventerrainrequiresextracaution.

12.Threadtheadjustmentboltintotheboomand

turnitinuntilthereis3.8to6.3cm(1-1/2to2-1/2

inches)ofslackinthechainonthebottomspan.

13.Threadthejamnutdowntheadjustingboltand

tightenitsecurelyagainsttheboom.

14.Torquethe2boltsandnutssecuringtheboom

to183to223N∙m(135to165ft-lb).

4.Begininsertingthenoseoftheboomandchain

intothegroundbyslowlyraisingthetrenchera

fewcentimeters(inches)offthegroundwhile

tiltingthenosedownintothegroundgradually.

5.Oncethetrencherboomisinthegroundata45

to60degreeangle,slowlylowerthetrencher

untilthespoilsaugerisjustabovetheground.

6.Ensurethatallpartsofthetrencherare

functioningcorrectly.

7.Slowlymovethetractionunitrearwardtoextend

thetrench.

Note:Ifyoumovetoofast,thetrencherwillstall.

Ifitstalls,raiseitslightly,slowlydriveforward,or

reversethechaindirectionmomentarily.

8.Whennished,raisethetrencherandboomout

ofthetrenchbytiltingtheattachmentrearward,

thenstopthetrencherbymovingtheauxiliary

hydraulicsleverintoneutral.

OffsettingtheTrencher

Youcanmovethetrenchertotherightsideofthe

trencherframetoallowyoutotrenchclosetobuildings

andotherobstacles.

1.Lowerthetrenchertotheground,engagethe

parkingbrake(ifequipped),shutofftheengine,

andremovethekey.

2.Disconnectthehydrauliclinesfromthetrencher.

WARNING

Hydraulicuidescapingunderpressure

Fluidinjectedintotheskinmustbe

pan.

6.Returnthetrenchertotheground.

7.Fillthebearingcasewithgearlubeuntilitcomes

outofthellhole.

8.Replacetheplugandtorqueitto20to23N∙m

(15to17ft-lb).

ServiceInterval:Every25hours—Adjustthedigging

chaintension.

Withthetrencherparalleltotheground,ensurethat

thereis3.8to6.3cm(1-1/2to2-1/2inches)between

thebottomoftheboomandthetopofthebottom

chainspan.Ifnot,adjustthechainusingthefollowing

procedure:

chaintensionmaydamagedrivecomponents.

6.Tightenthejamnut.

7.Torquethe2boltsandnutssecuringtheboom

to183to223N∙m(135to165ft-lb).

Inspectthebottomoftheboomforwear,ifitisworn,

completethefollowing:

itonce,replaceit),andinstalltheboomagain.

8.Replacethenuts,bolts,andwasherssecuring

theboom.

9.Installthechainoverthedrivesprocketand

frontroller.

10.Adjustthechaintension;refertoAdjustingthe

DiggingChainT ension(page14).

ReplacingtheDigging

Teeth

ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Inspect

theboomforwear.

Duetothehighamountofwearplacedonthedigging

teeth,youneedtoreplacethemperiodically.

Toreplaceasingletooth,removetheboltsandnuts

securingthetoothtoremoveit,theninstallanew

toothinthesameposition.Torquetheboltssecuring

theteethto37to45N∙m(27to33ft-lb).

Overtime,thedrivesprocketwillwear,especially

whenusedinsandyorclaysoils.Whenthishappens,

thediggingchainwillbegintoslip.Ifthechainslips,

theauxiliaryhydraulicslever,lowerthe

attachment,andengagetheparkingbrake(if

equipped).

2.Raisethetrencherafewcentimeters(inches)

abovetheground.

17.Threadtheadjustmentboltintotheboomand

18.Threadthejamnutdowntheadjustingboltand

tightenitsecurelyagainsttheboom.

19.Torquethe2boltsandnutssecuringtheboom
