WARNING: RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK.
When working with batteries, extreme caution must be
exercised. The installation should be performed by qualified personnel. Individual safety requires plenty
of ventilation. Remove jewelry, wear protective clothing and eye wear (safety glasses), and exercise
caution.
Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for correctly installing batteries.
CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK AND/OR ELECTRIC ENERGY - HIGH CURRENT LEVELS.
Do not touch
un-insulated battery connectors or terminals. Be sure to discharge static electricity from tools and
technician by touching a grounded surface in the vicinity of the batteries but away from the cells and
flame arrestors. All tools should be adequately insulated to avoid the possibility of shorting connections.
Do not lay tools on the top of the battery.

BATTview Installation
The BATTview unit has two separate battery voltage sense leads, Hall-effect current sensor and a
combo probe that includes temperature and water level sensors as shown below, another
temperature sensor is integrated in the negative battery voltage lead for redundancy and will
ensure that if for any reason the internal temperature sensor gets damaged or fails, the battery
temperature will continue to be measured and reported.

CAUTION: DO NOT CUT THE TEMPERATURE SENSE WIRE.
This wire
has a thermocouple integrated into the lug and is used to measure
battery temperature. Cutting this wire will result in erroneous
temperature readings.
CAUTION:
BATTview accessories including any probe option are
not intended for field replacement.

Physical Installation Procedure:
Ø Always use the correct size drill bit and inserts to connect BATTview leads. Apply
Dielectric grease to the holes and inserts.
Ø When the BATTview is installed on batteries that could be charged with EnerSys
Enforcer, Hawker LifePlus, or Ametek Eclipse II Chargers, ensure the PLC is disabled
on the BATTview Settings.
Ø Clean any corrosion on the connector using a small wire brush and a mixture of baking
soda and water.
Ø Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the surfaces of intercell terminals before
connecting the BATTview terminal. The grease will help stop future corrosion while
allowing the electricity to make contact through it.
Hall-effect Current Sense Installation:
Using the reference picture below, open the Hall-effect sensor by unscrewing the side screw.
Install the Hall-effect on the negative battery cable, making sure that the arrow is pointing out of
the battery negative terminal. Close the Hall-effect and tighten the screw. Use a zip tie to secure
the cable as shown in the picture.

Combo Probe Installation:
If the BATTview comes with Combo Probe, use the ½drill bit and drill a hole at the center of the
battery
(make sure it is installed at least 8 cells from the negative terminal)
as shown in the
example picture below. Seal the probe with RTV Silicon after inserting the probe in the battery.

Important:
Install BATTview combo probe
at least 8 cells from
the NEGATIVE
terminal
as shown above.
Battery Voltage Sense Leads (Lugs):
Connect the negative lead (
BLACK
) to the negative terminal
of the battery. Connect the positive lead
(RED)
to the positive
terminal of the battery. When connecting the positive voltage
sense lead place the ring terminal in the screw first, then tug
on the cable while screwing the screw into the battery
terminal to prevent sparking as shown in the pictures to the
side.
Battery Voltage Sense Leads (Piercing Connectors):
Using the 13-mm ratcheting wrench (not supplied) open the jaws of the 2 piercing connectors
and clamp them on the positive (RED) and negative (BLACK) battery terminals. Make sure the
battery voltage sensing leads are also clamped securely to the piercing connectors.
Note:
When the BATTview powers up, it will blink Blue one time and then perform a hardware check
that could take up to 3 seconds. The BATTview should blink Green 3 times to indicate hardware
check completed successfully. If the BATTview doesn’t show this color pattern, check lead
connections to ensure the leads are in full contact with the battery. Check BATTview

BATTview Calibration:
BATTview devices with Hall-effect current sensor don’t need calibration.
3.
BATTview Settings:
The BATTview settings need to be adjusted to match the battery and type of application.
Connecting the BATTview can be done through the ACT Mobile Router and using a laptop or
tablet with ACT-Link software. It can also be done through the Calibrator if the PLC option on the
BATTview is enabled.
Please refer to the full installation manual for detailed step by step instructions to the BATTview
(720-00002 BATTview Installation Manual). On the “Battery Settings” screen please ensure you
enter the battery information.
For BATTview mobile, create a new Study to start logging the data. Please refer to the full
BATTview mobile installation manual for detailed step by step instructions (720-00004 BATTview
Mobile Installation and Setup Manual).
Important:
All settings need to be uploaded to ACTview to ensure future
replacements and alerts are accurate. The upload needs to be
done with Internet connection and can be done offsite. The
upload can be done when all device settings are completed for
the entire site. Skipping the upload step will cause data
