Please Note. The ST55 must be installed to Thatcham TRI guidelines. The ST55 is
recognised by the insurance industry under Thatcham Certificate number TQA422.
Prior to installation of the ScorpionTrack 5 unit it is imperative that the product,
customer and vehicle registration have been completed on-line.
Please visit www.scorpiontrack.com and log in with either the Dealer or Fitter user
name and password to register the system. The unit serial number will need to be
entered, which can be found on the end of the packaging or on the silver label on the
top of the unit.
The vehicle and customer’s full contact information, including address, postcode,
email and contact numbers will be required at this stage. Once this is completed,
the installer will receive an email confirmation letting them know that the unit is live
and ready to fit.
The assigned installer will also receive a text message informing them that the unit is
ready to install.
Please do not attempt installation until the unit and user information have been
set up online

Driver Cards
Before installing the ScorpionTrack 5 unit, please ensure that the installer has both
driver cards and that both are fully charged (the cards will arrive fully charged but
will run down over time).
To check that the cards are fully charged place each one into the charging dock
which can be powered up using either the power adaptor supplied with the kit or
with any 5 volt micro-USB lead.
When a driver card is on charge the RF signal from the card to the unit is blocked.
(This is a Thatcham safety feature so as not to encourage leaving cards in vehicles on
charge.) This also means that the cards must not be on charge during the installation
process as the unit will not sense them.
The green LED light on the charging dock will flash slowly when the card is flat and
will gradually speed up as it charges. The light will remain constant once the card is
fully charged. From flat a full charge completes in about 30 minutes.
The unit will check for cards every 15 seconds while ignition is on, until both cards
are found.
Please Note: The driver cards are to be fully charged roughly every 6-8 weeks. The
customer will receive a low card battery SMS when they turn their vehicle ignition on
with the low battery card present.
A driver card with a low battery or a driver card in a shielded position, can cause the
tracking device to have problems seeing the card initially, or at all throughout the
journey. This may result in a call from the Secure Monitoring Centre to confirm the
vehicle’s status.
When the vehicle is being driven the driver should have their automatic driver
recognition card(s) present. The driver card(s) should be inside the vehicle and not
concealed and not on charge. This means that an ideal place for the card(s) should
be in the centre console, on the passenger seat or in a cup-holder etc.
When the vehicle is in use it is not recommended for the card(s) to be in wallets,
pockets, bags, boxes etc. because some fabrics can shield RF signals (the same
applies for travelling with the cards in the vehicle boot, glovebox etc.)

Installation Guidelines
1. Unit Install
Wherever possible please avoid fitting the ScorpionTrack 5 unit near to vehicle ECU’s
or radio receivers and amplifiers. Make sure that the unit is not shielded by metal or
carbon fibre when installed as this will affect the range of the built in Radio
Frequency antenna for the driver cards. Ideally the unit should be mounted in the
passenger compartment, near to the driver’s side.
2. GPS Antenna
The GPS Antenna must be covert but mounted in a manner that will offer it a good
and clear view of the sky. Avoid fitting under the dashboard in vehicles with solar
glass – the bumper can be used as an alternative in this situation.
The antenna MUST NOT be shielded by metal
Please be aware that if signal strength is poor it can take up to 10 minutes to get
a satellite fix. Therefore commissioning should be done outdoors as the unit
cannot be activated without a GPS fix. The GPS antenna cable must not be coiled
to loose excess length as this may cause interference.
The antenna wiring must be secured by cable ties wherever possible and the wiring
routed in a way that makes it as discreet as possible. The GPS connector should be
tightened to a torque of 1nm.
3. Permanent Ground Connection (-31) Black Wire
This connection should be made as close to the unit as possible. Try to avoid using
the same earth with any other system using a new and unused ground point and
treat for corrosion as required using the vehicle manufacturers recommended
process.
Do not connect directly to the vehicle’s radio circuits as this may cause interference.
ScorpionTrack Cat 5 Installation Guide V3 17.03.17 Page | 5
4. Permanent 12v or 24v power supply (+30) Red Wire
Connect the permanent power supply to either 12 or 24 volt using the in-line 5 amp
link fuse (supplied) using soldered or approved crimp connections. It is also
important to check that the supply is a constant feed and does not time out due to
on board vehicle power management.
Please Note: It can take some time after the car is locked for some feeds to drop out,
please double check if unsure. Do not connect directly to the vehicle’s radio circuits
as this may cause interference.
5. Ignition (+15) Orange Wire
Locate a 12 or 24 volt ignition supply that remains constant while cranking the
engine. Connect the ScorpionTrack 5 orange wire to this ignition supply using a
soldered or approved crimp connection, then insulate.
Please Note: It is imperative that the ScorpionTrack 5 has a good ignition power
supply. Do not connect directly to the vehicle’s radio circuits as this may cause
interference.
ScorpionTrack Cat 5 Installation Guide V3 17.03.17 Page | 6
6. Crank Inhibit (Immobilisation) Black/Blue wires (2 wires)
The starter circuit is the ONLY circuit that Thatcham permit an installer to cut. The
cut must only prevent the vehicle from starting and must not prevent it from
running.
Under no circumstances must any other cut be made including ignition, fuel or any
other engine run cut.
The installer will need to find either the wire leading directly to the starter solenoid
or a wire that controls a starter relay.
The crank inhibit relay will take a maximum load of 25 amps. Connect one
black/blue wire to both ends of the cut wire.
There are two versions of the loom for this system available for either 12 or 24 volt
applications, please specify, when ordering, which of the two looms are required.
Part numbers are:
12 volt loom (18amp) HAST50CAT5
24 volt loom (30amp) HAC524V

7. Check for RF Interference
Whilst the ScorpionTrack 5 unit has in-built filters to prevent RF interference, a
simple check can be performed to establish whether the unit is causing additional
interference. Before making the connections, check the vehicle radio receives good
quality reception by auto searching through the FM and/or DAB channels. Then fit
all the connectors and repeat this process. If interference is an issue then try one of
the following in order to establish the root cause of the problem:
- Move the position of the ST55 unit
- Move the position of the earth connection
- Move the position of the power supply
- Move the position of the ignition supply
- Fit suppressors to battery and ignition feeds
If problems persist after exhausting all of the above options, please contact Tracking
Support on 01257 249928 option 2 for assistance.
8. Commissioning the unit and LED status indicators
Before connecting the ScorpionTrack 5 unit make sure that the vehicle is in an area
with clear-sight of the sky. The antenna fitment recommendations are mentioned in
section 2. of this document. Ignition must be on.
N.B. Never leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running.
Now connect the ScorpionTrack 5 unit. The ignition must be on for the configuration
process to complete. If the ignition is turned off before completion, the
configuration process will start again, 5 minutes after the ignition is next turned on.
During the installation process, the installer will receive commissioning texts (see
section 9 of this document for examples);
a) The first text will confirm that the vehicle is ready to have the allocated
unit installed. This is sent as a result of entering the customer, vehicle,
installer and unit details on-line.
b) The second text will confirm that the installation has been completed
successfully and that the Dealer can see the vehicle on-line for a 2 hour
time period if the customer has paid their subscription.
The unit will also alert the installer to any problems experienced during installation
and will text accordingly.
Notifications are:
a) Battery Low in the driver card. This will indicate whether both or just one
card battery is flat and will let the installer know the card number. Each
ScorpionTrack Cat 5 Installation Guide V3 17.03.17 Page | 8
card is allocated a number and this number will be reflected in the text
and will be on a sticker on the card.
b) Driver card not found. The text will display the unique card number that
has not been recognised. There could be a number of reasons for this:
- The card is not present.
- The card is on charge.
- The card battery is too low for it to be sensed during
commissioning.
If problems persist after eliminating all of the above options, please
contact Tracking Support on 01257 249928 option 2 for technical
assistance.
c) Once the installation is complete, the unit has GPS, is connected to the
cellular network and both cards are paired to the system, the installer will
receive a text to confirm that the unit has commissioned. This will show
the vehicle registration and longitude and latitude of the vehicle’s
position. At this point the installer will have 2 hours in which to view the
location online but only if the customer has paid their subscription.
If the installer does not receive the final confirmation text, the unit has not
commissioned. This could be due to a number of reasons which should be
identified by the LED Status Indication (please see below). For further assistance
please call Tracking Support on 01257 249928 option 2.
Please Note: DO NOT hand a vehicle back without having first received the
installation complete SMS

9. Commissioning Texts
The
following section gives examples of the commissioning texts that an installer will
receive. They are separated into the ‘normal’ text sequence and those that may
need further action.
Text examples of a normal installation process:
1. Once set up on-line, the installer will received this text
2. Once installed and powered up, the installer will receive this text
Text examples of an installation where the driver cards have not been recognised:
Here is a list of things to do if the installer receives one of these messages rather
than the normal installation texts…
If the installer receives this text, he will need to check the driver card battery is
charged and ensure that it is within range of the unit. Other reasons that the driver
card might not be found are detailed on page 8, paragraph b) of this document.
The unit will search for the card every 15 seconds whilst the ignition is on.
