INSTRUCTIONS
#385
Davis’ Rudder Position Indicator helps boaters avoid veer-
ing and collisions. Awareness of the rudder angle is a most
important safety factor. This is especially true while moving in
and out of your berth, drawing alongside another boat, picking
up a skier, mooring, or any other “close call” situation.
The Rudder Position Indicator gives instant visual reference of
rudder angle. The pointer swings a full 30° with each revolu-
tion of the wheel. Mounts easily with its self-adhesive pad
directly to your hub. Indicator is approximately 2" (51 mm) in
diameter. Rugged, hermetically sealed, weatherproof and sun-
proof housing ensures long life. No cables, adjustments, or
electricity required; gravity power makes it simple and service-
free. Suitable for boats with mechanical and single station
hydraulic steering systems.
INSTALLATION
Wheels may be inclined 45–90° from horizontal. Surface must
be at least 2" (51 mm) in diameter with center not more than
1/8" (3 mm) higher than outside of hub. Before mounting,
wash the hub with detergent, rinse well with fresh water, and
wipe dry. Center steering wheel accurately (rudder straight
ahead). Rotate indicator until it reads “wheel centered” (point-
er on white index marker). Peel away protective backing from
self-adhesive pad and mount indicator by pressing hard
against hub.
If mounting on a hydraulic steering system (single station
only), these systems can “slip.” Use Velcro
®
type materials for
mounting instead of self-adhesive so indicator can be easily
removed and wheel recalibrated if necessary.
