 Introduction

Dear customer,

Thank you for purchasing the quick charger set UFC 1

Traveller. The product which you purchased is a set

which was built according to the current state of the art.

This product is EMC-tested and, therefore, satisfies the

standards of the established European and national gui-

delines. CE-conformity has been proved; the relevant

documents are in the manufacturer's possession.

We kindly request the user to respect this operating

manual to preserve this condition and to ensure safe

operation.

Prescribed use

This appliance is intended for charging, discharging and

refreshing NiCd and NiMH accumulators type mignon

(AA) and micro (AAA) suited for quick charge. The only

voltage sources which require to be used are the plug-in

power supply set (voltage supplied for the plug-in power

supply set: 100V-240V AC) which is comprised in the

delivery or the accompanying cigarette lighter adapter

cable (voltage supply for the automobile battery: 12 V

DC). Keep and operate the set only in a dry environment;

avoid contact with moisture.

Ne chargez avec ce chargeur que des accumulateurs

nickel métal hydrure (NiMH) et nickel cadmium (NiCd,

appropriés pour le courant de charge. Ne chargez

jamais des piles à usage unique. N´utilisez pas le char-

geur pour recharger des accumulateurs alcalins (RAM).

Ne chargez jamais différents types d´accumulateurs en

même temps !

Ne fermez jamais brièvement les contacts de charge, le

bloc d´alimentation ou les accumulateurs !

Ne rechargez jamais des accus de type R6 Mignon et de

type R3 Micro en même temps. L’appareil peut rechar-

ger au maximum 4 accus de même type en même

temps. La recharge simultanée de différents types d’ac-

cus peut provoquer l’éclatement des accus, des fuites

ou même blesser des personnes.

Toute utilisation autre que stipulée ci-des-

sus provoque l’endommagement de ce pro-

duit et peut en outre avoir des dangers pour

conséquence, risques de courts-circuits,

d’incendie, d’électrocution, etc. Il n’est per-

mis ni de modifier le produit, ni de le trans-

former, ni d’en ouvrir le boîtier ! Il faut abso-

lument tenir compte des avertissements

concernant la sécurité !

Contenu de livraison

L´étendue de livraison du kit comprend le chargeur rapi-

de d´accumulateur UFC-1, un bloc secteur universel

doté de quatre connecteurs d´entrée et 8 connecteurs

de sortie, un câble adaptateur allume-cigarettes de 12

V, 8 piles rondes de 200mAh NiMH, un étui de range-

ment pratique, ainsi qu´une notice d´utilisation.

vation de ce mode d’emploi, la validité de

la garantie est annulée ! Nous déclinons

toute responsabilité pour d’éventuels

dommages consécutifs!

Delivery Scope

The delivery consists of the quick charger UFC 1, a uni-

versal plug-type power pack with four input and 8 out-

put plugs, a 12 V cigarette lighter adapter cable, 8 mig-

non accumulators 200 mAh NiMH, a practical storage

bag as well as an operating manual.

Safety instructions

Any claims for guarantee will become

invalid in the event of damage that

results from the non-observance of the

operating manual. We do not accept res-

ponsibility for such damage.

An exclamation mark in a triangle indica-

tes that there are important observations

in the instructions for use. Study the

instructions carefully before putting the

set into service.

The set must not be opened or rebuilt for easons of

safety and approval.

Only charge nickel metal hydride (NiMH) and nickel-

cadmium (NiCd) accumulators with this device. Never

attempt to charge disposable batteries. Do not use this

appliance for charging chargeable alkaline accumula-

tors (RAM). Never charge different types of accumula-

tors at the same time!

Never charge Mignon and microcells at a time. The set

is capable of charging a maximum of 4 identical cells at

a time. Charging different accumulator types at a time

might cause the batteries to burst or leak or might even

injure persons.

Never short-circuit the charging contacts, the power pack

or the accumulators! It is common that the accumulators

will heat up while being charged. Handle freshly char-

ged accumulators with great care.

The set and accumulators are not a toy for children.

Keep them out of the reach of children.

Instruction for environmental protection:

The law (the provision on exhausted bat-

teries) obliges the end user to return all

used batteries and accumulators (from

button cells to lead accumulators); any

disposal thereof via the domestic waste

is prohibited.



chargeur d´accumulateur UFC-1. Avec cet appareil,

vous avez fait l’acquisition d’un produit construit d’a-

près les derniers progrès de la technique. Ce produit est

conforme aux exigences des directives européennes et

nationales en vigueur. La conformité a été contrôlée, les

certificats de conformité ont été consignés auprès du

fabricant.

Afin de maintenir l’appareil en bon état et d’en assurer

une utilisation sans risques, l’utilisateur doit absolu-

ment tenir compte de et respecter ce mode d’emploi !

Restrictions d’utilisation:

utilisation conforme comprend la charge, la décharge,

le rafraîchissement d´accumulateurs vite chargeables

NiCd et NiMH de type piles rondes (AA) et piles micro

(AAA). Seuls l’adaptateur pour l’alimentation en courant

joint (alimentation en courant de l’adaptateur 230V AC)

ou le câble adaptateur joint pour l’alimentation par la

prise allume-cigare (alimentation en courant par la bat-

terie voiture 12V- DC) peuvent être utilisés. Fonctionne-

ment et stockage seulement dans des endroits secs, le

contact avec l’humidité est à éviter.

(waste collection yards) which are also

obliged to accept them as before.

How to operate

Voltage supply

Decide on the voltage supply you desire. You may select

between a plug-in power supply unit for 230 V AC

socket and a 12V adapter cable for cigarette lighters in

camping vans or the like:

1. Plug-type power pack: The UFC 1 comes with a uni-

versal plug-type power pack. This has the advantage

that you cannot only use the power pack for the UFC 1

but also as a power supply for other small appliances

like portable CD players, gameboys, etc.

In order to operate the UFC 1 with the power pack, you

need to set the output voltage of the power pack to 12 V

(use the enclosed key for this) and select the proper

output plug for the UFC 1. For simplification, the mat-

ching hollow plug (5.0 x 2.1 cm) is marked with a red

arrow. This red arrow must match the red arrow on the

output cable of the power pack.

Select the right input plug for the wall outlet. In order to

insert the input plug, slide the lock slider in the direction

of the arrow until the input plug snaps out of the

connection terminal. In order to insert the input plug,

place it on the connection terminal and press it into the

terminal until it snaps into place. Plug the power plug

into a wall outlet.

2. 12V adapter cable: Plug the 12V adapter cable into a

cigarette lighter jack. The existence of a voltage on the

DC plug is signalled by a red LED on the adapter cable.

If the red LED should not go on check the cigarette ligh-

ter jack or the fuse in the connection plug (2 A, quick-

action) for its functionality.

Insert the DC plug of the voltage supply chosen by you

into the inlet jack at the upper front-end face of the

UFC-1 charging set.

the relevant regulations (VDE 100, VDE 0701).

Using the universal power pack for other small electric

appliances

The provided universal plug-type power pack can also

be used for operating other small electric appliances

with output voltages of between 3V and 12 V DC.

Select the right output voltage, polarity and output plug

for the device. You have eight different output plugs at

your disposal.

Never use more current than indicated on the

back of the power pack.

Observe the right voltage and polarity when

connecting the power pack to other small

electric appliances.

Non-compliance leads to the destruction of

the power pack and the connected electric

appliance. The guarantee will be null and void

in case of damages due to wrong connection.

Maintenance and care

Disconnect the charging set, the plug-in power supply

unit as well as the adapter from all power supplies prior to

any cleaning or maintenance. Only use a soft, dry clea-

Charging accumulators

- First insert the accumulators to be charged into the

charger (observe the correct polarity). 2 or 4 Mignon

or Micro accumulators may be charged at a time. A

single accumulator or three accumulators will not be

charged.

- Use the selector switch to choose the number of accu-

mulators to be inserted (2 or 4). If you charge 2 accu-

mulators place them in the two left-hand apertures.

- The charging set will now automatically change over

to the rapid charging mode. This is signalled by the

charging condition LED (LED on the right-hand side)

being lit red.

- As soon as the accumulators are completely charged,

the charger automatically switches to cyclic trickle

charge. This is indicated by the green light of the

charge state LED. You do not need to remove the

accumulators from the charger after the quick charge

process is completed. The negative-delta-U cutout

and the trickle charge function prevent the overchar-

ging of the accumulators.

We recommend to subject the NiMH accu-

mulators comprised in the delivery to sever-

al charging (discharging-charging) cycles

before putting them into service. This helps

in fully developing the maximum capacity of

the accumulators. Accumulators will loose

their charge in the course of time even

though you do not use them. Accumulators

which were stored for more than a week

should be recharged prior to use.

Discharge function

This function discharges the inserted accumulators

before the rapid charging operation begins. This is use-

ful specifically for NiCd accumulators to avoid the

memory effect. For an activation of the discharge func-

tion, proceed as follows:

- Press the discharge key "DISCHARGE" after inserting

the accumulators into the charging set (see the item

"How to charge accumulators").

- The discharging operation will then start. This is sig-

nalled by the charging condition LED being lit orange.

- After the accumulators are completely discharged the

rapid charging procedure will begin automatically

with the charging condition LED changing over to red.

The discharging operation, while under way,

may be ceased by pressing the discharging

key "DISCHARGE" and changing over to the

rapid charging mode becomes possible.

The accompanying high-efficiency NiMH

accumulators from Conrad Energy have no

memory effect. This means that you may

recharge the accumulators even if they are

not completely discharged yet. The high-

power capability of these cells makes them

ideally suited for use in digital cameras,

radio sets or the like.

Refreshing function

This function resets the "accumulation state" of the

accumulators. This is recommended if your accumula-

tors should no longer function properly.

- Set the selector switch to "REFRESH" after inserting

the accumulators into the charging set (see the item

"How to charge accumulators").

- The regeneration process starts, which is signalled by

the REFRESH LED being lit yellow.

- After the accumulator is reset the charging set will be

automatically switched off and the REFRESH LED is

extinguished. There is no automatic start of the
