Product liability, information obligation
Product liability obliges manufacturers and dealers to issue operating instructions for the machine at the point of sale and to instruct
the customer on the operation, safety and maintenance regulations governing the machine.
A confirmation is required to verify that the machine and operating instructions have been handed over correctly.
For this purpose
- Document A is to be signed and returned to Pöttinger or via the internet to www.poettinger.at
- Document B remains with the specialist dealer handing over the machine.
- The customer receives document C.
For the purposes of product liability law, every farmer is an entrepreneur.
In the terms of product liability law, damage to property is any damage arising due to the machine, but not to the machine, and an
excess (500 euros) exists for this liability.
Corporate damage to property within the terms of the product liability law is excluded from this liability.
Be advised! The operating instructions must also be handed over with any subsequent machine sale or transfer and the transferee
must be instructed in the regulations stated.

Attaching
There are two different ways of attaching the machine to
the tractor:
Hitching with a drawbar
1. Drawbar above the cardan shaft
If the jaws are situated above the cardan shaft, the drawbar
must also be fitted above the cardan shaft. Fit the drawbar
into the top 6 screw holes.
Attach the textile strap to the cardan shaft rack.
1. Place the strap around the drawbar. The hole in the
strap must be positioned above the drilled hole in the
drawbar.
2. Secure the strap with the aid of the enclosed self-tapping
screw and washer.
2. Drawbar below the cardan shaft
If the jaws are situated below the cardan shaft, the drawbar
must also be fitted below the cardan shaft. Fit the drawbar
into the bottom 6 screw holes.
Attach the retaining bracket to the cardan shaft rack.
1. Fit the washer and dowel pin to the retaining bracket.
2. Place the bracket (1) in the half-shell, which is welded
onto the drawbar.
3. Attach the upper half-shell (2) to the lower half-shell
using 4 x M6 screws.
4. Secure the clip (3) in the pilot hole using 1 self-tapping
screw.
Hitching with a lower linkage
1. Connect the machine to the lower linkage.
2. Fix the hydraulic lower linkage so that the machine
cannot swivel out sideways.

Insert the support stand
1. Wind up the supporting leg using the crank handle (4),
so that the machine rests on the tractor.
2. Pull the bolt (6) out of the support stand.
3. Push the support stand up and secure with the bolt and
linchpin.

Securing the lower linkage
- The tractor's lower linkages must be locked laterally free
of play, to prevent the tedder swinging back and forth.

Detach cardan shaft
WARNING
Serious injury through ejected parts of the damaged
cardan shaft.
• The cardan shaft is to be checked before
first use and adapted if necessary (see
Chapter "Adapting the cardan shaft" in
Attachment B.
Attach the wide-angle cardan shaft
NOTE
Machine damage through overloading the wide-angle
cardan shaft.
• With a drawbar coupling, attach the
wide-angle joint to the tractor.
• With a lower linkage connection, attach the
wide-angle joint to the machine.

Parking the machine
WARNING
Danger of serious injury or machine damage through
the machine rolling or tipping over.
• Park the machine only on solid, level
ground.
• Use wheel chocks to secure the machine
from rolling.
• Park the machine stably.
• Use the support stand to secure the ma-
chine from tipping over.
• Secure the support stand properly using the
pin.
The machine can be parked securely in either the working
or transport position.
- Detach cardan shaft and prop it up.
1. with a top drawbar Support cardan shaft using a
textile strap
2. with a bottom drawbar: Support cardan shaft with a
bracket.
3. With lower link hitching (HIT 12.14), position cardan
shaft on shaft holder
Do not use safety chain (H) to suspend the cardan shaft!
- Close stopcock (Pos. A)
- Disconnect hydraulic lines from tractor.
- Disconnect electric cable (EL) from tractor.
This prevents accidental battery discharge e.g. during
the night.

• Ensure that nobody else is in the swivel
range.
Danger to life due to folding during transportation.
If a control unit is touched during transport and the
shut-off valve is not closed, the movement of the
parts can damage the machine.
• Only transport with the shut-off valve closed.
Danger to life due to piercing tines.
• Only reverse in the headland or transport
positions!
WARNING
Danger of injury through machine tipping over!
• Do not stand in the rotor arm swivel range
during the swivelling procedure.
• Carry out the folding procedure only on
level, firm ground.
• Carry out folding procedures in to and out of
the transport position only when machine is
at a standstill.

• Do not stand in the rotor arm swivel range
during the swivelling procedure.
Headland position
WARNING
Danger to life through folding during transportation.
• Carry out folding from the headland position
to the transport position, or vice versa, only
when the machine is at a standstill!
1. Working position to headland position
1. Raise the rotor units to the headland position
using the single-action control unit.
NOTE
Property damage due to piercing tines.
If the stop limit is not reached at the headland, then
the entire height difference that the headland offers
is not used. This can cause the tines to penetrate
the ground.
• Always fold up to stop when folding into
headland position.
• Display: green (HIT 8.9 T)
2. Headland position to working position
1. Lower the rotor units to the working position
using the single-acting control unit. Set the
control unit to the floating position until the
rotor units touch the ground. For working
transport leave the control unit in the floating
position.
Transport position
WARNING
Danger to life through folding during transportation.
• Carry out folding in transport position or
from the transport position only when the
machine is at a standstill!
Only transport the machine in the transport position!
1. Ensure that the swivel range is clear and that no-one
is standing in the danger area.
2. The machine must be at standstill and resting on flat,
firm ground when changing from working to transport
position or vice versa.

Important! Observe the order of operation.
1. For safety reasons, switch off p.t.o. and wait
for rotors to come to a standstill.
2. Set the single-acting control unit to "Raise"
to raise the rotor units to the headland (until
they stop). Display: green
TAKE NOTE
Before swivelling the rotor units forward using a
double-acting control unit, or resuming a previously
interrupted forward movement, always check that
the rotor arms are still locked in headland position.
Display: green
• If the display is not in the green area, bring
the rotor arms back into the green area
(using a single-acting control unit, until they
stop).

3. Set the dual-acting control unit to "Raise" to
completely swivel the rotor units forward.
4. Set the single-acting control unit to the floating
position to lower the rotor units to the transport
position and thereby lock them.
5. Connect the shut-off valve to the single-acting
hydraulic hose (pos. A) - Transport safeguard

Folding the machine
DANGER
Danger to life through folding the machine during
transportation.
If the machine is not in the transport position and the
shut-off valve on the single-acting hydraulic hose is
not closed, the double-acting control unit can cause
the machine to be put into working position while
on the road.
• Check that the shut-off valve is closed.
• The machine must always be lowered to the
transport position using the single-acting
control unit. This ensures that the rotor units
are hydraulically locked. (see illus. below)
• The dual-acting control unit cannot be op-
erated in the transport position. This means
that it is impossible to inadvertently swivel
the rotors out. If the valve is not operated
(see figure 1), the locking mechanism is
closed. If the valve is operated (see figure
2), the locking mechanism is open. The
machine is not in transport position.

4. Transport position to working position
Important! Observe the order of operation.
1. Open shut-off valve (pos. E)
2. Set the single-acting control unit to "Raise" to
raise the rotor units from the transport position
and thereby release them.
3. Set the dual-acting control unit to "Lower"
to swivel the rotor units into the headland
position.
4. Set the single-acting control unit to "Lower"
to lower the rotor units from the headland
position into the working position.

Driving on public roads
• Observe the local laws and regulations for
your country.
• Drivingonpublicroadsshouldonlybeundertakeninthe
transport position (as described in the chapter entitled
"Folding the machine" under "Transport position").
• Protectivedevicesmustbeinproperworkingorder.
• Beforetravelling,placeswivellingpartsinthecorrect
position and secure against dangerous changes in
position.

Only carry out adjustments when the machine
• has been parked securely and steadfastly
on level, firm ground.
• the tractor engine is turned off and the pto
shaft is at a standstill.
• the tractor's ignition key has been removed.
Danger to life due to parts being thrown off
• Before every operation, check that the tines
are in good order (free of breakage, cracks
and fracture lines).
• Before every operation, check the bolt
fittings of the tines.
Danger to life from rotor arms when folding.
• Do not enter the swivel range of the rotor
arms.
• Ensure that nobody else enters the danger
area around the rotor arms.
Danger to life through damaged or missing hoop
guards
• Carry out repairs to hoop guards immedi-
ately.
TAKE NOTE
Damaged or missing hoop guards can lead to further
property damage.
The hoop guards are load-carrying components.
Missing hoop guards or parts of hoop guards have
an effect on the stability of the construction.
• Carry out repairs to hoop guards immedi-
ately.
General guidelines on working with the
machine
- All work on the rotors may only be performed with the
p.t.o. switched off.
- Select a driving speed that ensures the entire crop is
harvested cleanly.
- In case of overload, change to a lower gear.
DANGER
Danger to life through parts being ejected when the
max. p.t.o speed has been exceeded.
• Do not exceed max. p.t.o speed of 540
r.p.m.!
P.t.o. speed
- Max. p.t.o. speed = 540 r.p.m.
The most suitable shaft speed is approximately 450
r.p.m.
Do not enter rotor area while drive motor is
running.

Field edge clearing (boundary tedding)
The boundary tedding position is reached by swivelling
the two rotors outwards to the right.
Swivelling in a boundary tedding position:
1. Pull the cable to switch over to the dual-action
hydraulic valve.
2. While pulling the cable, set the dual-acting control
valve to "Raise". The two right-hand outer rotors
will swivel backwards.
Swivelling back to the normal position:
1. Pull the cable to switch over to the dual-acting
hydraulic valve.
2. While pulling the cable, set the dual-acting control
valve to "Lower". The two right-hand outer rotors
will swivel forwards.
NOTE
Property damage to the machine.
Do not swivel directly from the boundary tedding
position to the transport position, otherwise the
transport locking device cannot engage.
• Swivel the rotor to the normal position
before moving the machine to the transport
position.

Normal position
Lubricating the boundary tedding equipment:
Three additional grease nipples must be lubricated every 50
hours on any machine with boundary tedding equipment.
These grease nipples are located near the joint for the
boundary tedding equipment.
On the HIT 18.9T and HIT 10.11 T, grease nipple 2 is

Setting the tine angle
The tine position can be changed by turning the tine
holder (80).
• Position"S1"
Standard setting (factory setting)
• Position"S2"
For difficult conditions e.g. very dense, heavy fodder.
The spreading effect is increased in this tine position.

Setting the rotor angle
The rotor angle can be set via the hole pattern below the
rotor bell. There are three positions: flat, medium and steep.
A lot of fodder
= large angle, steep
Not much fodder
= small angle, flat.
To adjust the machine inclination, insert the hole pattern
(see fig.) on all rotors accordingly.
1. Raise the rotors to the transport position.
2. Pull the linchpin out of the pin
3. Pull the pin out of the hole pattern.
4. Insert the pin in the required hole pattern.
5. Secure the pin with the linchpin.
6. Lower the rotor to working position.
TIP
Standard rotors and boundary tedding rotors must be set
up differently (see illustration)

Setting the working depth
The working height is adjusted using a crank handle (1)
on the chassis. The working height is adjusted centrally
for all rotors. The general setting is 3-4 cm above a flat
asphalt surface.
Secure the crank against rotation using the linch pin (2).
