Routine Testing of Moisture Analyzers
General
To test the sensitivity of the weighing unit of a moisture analyzer, a large test weight (between 50% and 100%
of capacity) is recommended.
Basic Rules for Handling Moisture Analyzers
•Beforeusingamoistureanalyzer,makesuretheinstrumentwasleftonpowerforasufficientperiodoftime
(mentioned in the user manual).
•Makesurethemoistureanalyzerisleveled.
•Minimizeenvironmentalinfluences,e.g.airdraft,vibrationsordirectsunlight.

Important to know
•Onlyanexternalweightwithcalibrationcertificatecanmaketheweighingunitofamoistureanalyzeratrace-
able piece of equipment.
•Weightsshouldalwaysbeplacedgentlyonthesamplepanholderandputbackimmediatelyintheirstorage
placeafteruse.Theymaybeparkedonacleanpieceofpaper.
•Weights(sincetheyarealsopartofmeasuringequipment)needtobere-calibratedatspecifiedintervals
(ISO 9001).
•Anydamage,whichmighthaveaffectedthevalueoftheweight,shouldtriggeranimmediatere-calibration.

How to Store Weights
• Weightsshouldbestoredintheiroriginalbox.
• Weightsshouldbestoredatroomtemperature,sincetemperaturedifferencesbetweenweightsandtheir
surrounding could lead to measurement errors.
• Weightsthathavenotbeenstoredatthesametemperatureneedacclimatizationbeforeuse.
How to Move Weights
• Weightsshouldonlybehandledwithappropriatetoolssuchastweezers,forks,handlesorgloves(see
METTLER TOLEDO’s accessories for weights).
• Thesetoolsshouldbeexclusivelyusedfortransferringweights,duetopossiblecontamination.
