Safety Warnings and Precautions
WARNING: When using tool, basic safety precautions should always be followed
to reduce the risk of personal injury and damage to equipment.
Read all instructions before using this tool!
1. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas invite injuries.
2. Observe work area conditions. Do not use machines or power tools in
damp or wet locations. Don’t expose to rain. Keep work area well lit. Do not
use electrically powered tools in the presence of flammable gases or liquids.
3. Keep children away. Children must never be allowed in the work area. Do
not let them handle machines, tools, or extension cords.
4. Store idle equipment. When not in use, tools must be stored in a dry
location to inhibit rust. Always lock up tools and keep out of reach of children.
5. Use the right tool for the job. Do not attempt to force a small tool or
attachment to do the work of a larger industrial tool. There are certain
applications for which this tool was designed. It will do the job better
and more safely at the rate for which it was intended. Do not modify this
tool and do not use this tool for a purpose for which it was not intended.
6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry as they can be caught
in moving parts. Protective, electrically non-conductive clothes and non-skid
footwear are recommended when working. Wear restrictive hair covering to
contain long hair. Wear work gloves to protect hands.
7. Use eye and ear protection. Always wear ANSI approved impact safety
goggles when working. Wear a full face shield if you are producing metal
filings. Wear an ANSI approved dust mask or respirator when working around
metal, wood, and chemical dusts and mists.
8. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Do not
reach over or across running machines.
9. Maintain tools with care. Keep tools maintained and clean for better and
safer performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing
accessories. The handles must be kept clean, dry, and free from oil and
grease at all times.
10. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, use common sense. Do not operate
any tool when you are tired.
11. Check for damaged parts. Before using any tool, any part that appears
damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly

and perform its intended function. Check for alignment and binding of moving
parts; any broken parts or mounting fixtures; and any other condition that may
affect proper operation. Any part that is damaged should be properly repaired
or replaced by a qualified technician.
12. Replacement parts and accessories. When servicing, use only identical
replacement parts. Use of any other parts will void the warranty. Only use
accessories intended for use with this tool. Approved accessories are
available from Harbor Freight Tools.
13. Do not operate tool if under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Read
warning labels on prescriptions to determine if your judgment or reflexes are
impaired while taking drugs. If there is any doubt, do not operate the tool.
14. Maintenance. For your safety, service and maintenance should be performed
regularly by a qualified technician.
Specific Safety Warnings
1. These tools are designed to hold wood cutting tools or scissors in the proper
position for sharpening on an appropriate grinder. Do not attempt to use these
tools for any other purpose. You may damage the tool, and/or cause serious
personal injry.
2. Do not attempt to sharpen brittle materials, such as glass or hard plastic.
Those materials may shatter and potentially cause injury. Always wear ANSI
approved safety goggles and face shield when using any one of these tools.
3. As your tool is being sharpened, there is a significant pinch hazard created.
Keep hands, fingers, hair or clothing or any item which may be injured or
damaged away from the sharpening jig and grinder when in operation.
Warning: The warnings, cautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction
manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It
must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors
which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator.
WARNING: Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and
other construction activites, contain chemicals known [to the State of California] to
cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these
chemicals are: A) Lead from lead-based paints; B) Crystalline cilica from bricks and
cement or other masonry products; C) Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated
lumber. Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this
type of work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated
area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks that are
specially designed to filter out microscopic particles. (California Health & Safety Code

When unpacking, check to make sure that all parts are included and
undamaged. Contact Harbor Freight Tools at 800-444-

Overview
These tools are designed to be used with a slow speed wet grinder (not included).
Harbor Freight Tools 8” Wet Grinder item number 95236 is used in the photos as an
example. The Standard Bracket Unit discussed on page 7 and shown in several
photos is included with item 95236. These jigs will hold your wood, cloth or leather
cutting tools in position while being sharpened on a grinder.
Wood Cutting Tool or Scissor Sharpening Tips
1. Preserve the correct angle. The cutting angle is the angle of the cutting
edge to the face of the tool. The best angle for each tool depends on the tool
and the material being cut. In most cases, it is best to reproduce the angle
originally supplied by the manufacturer on your tool.
2. Preserve the edge shape. Each cutting tool has a unique edge shape best
suited for its purpose. It may be curved, straight, beveled or other. When
sharpening, be careful to retain the edge shape of the tool.
3. Do not overheat. Use a wet, low speed grinder to sharpen tools. A high
speed grinder will heat up the cutting edge of the tool, removing the hardness
of the edge. A soft edge will not remain sharp for long and will not cut properly.
4. Burnish or hone the edge after grinding. Grinding produces an
approximately correct cutting edge. Some burrs or scratches will always
remain on the cutting edge after grinding. For best results, take the time to
hone (using a sharpening stone) or burnish (using a hardened steel honing
tool) the edge before beginning work.
5. Protect the edge from damage. The sharpened edge is extremely thin,
sharp and subject to damage. Store your cutting tools with care to prevent
damage to the edge from banging against other objects or from corrosion.
6. Touch up the edge periodically. Occasionally touch up the cutting edge of
your tools with a honing stone or burnisher. This will keep your tools sharp and
ready for use, and will result in less wear to the cutting tool than repeated
grinding.
7. Grinding wheel direction. In most cases with chisels, knives and scissors,
position the tool so the grinding wheel will turn from the base of the tool toward
the edge of the tool. With axes and blunt tools, have the grinding wheel rotate
from the cutting edge toward the base of the tool.
8. Inner curve gouges. In this manual, most instructions are given based on the
beveled edge of the tool being on the outside. In some cases, the beveled
edge of a gouge is on the inner or concave part of the cutting edge. With tools
of this type, a special profiled grinding wheel is required for sharpening.

Assembly and Operation
Each of these jigs are designed to be fixed to the grinder (not included) using
a standard bracket unit. The bracket shown is included with Harbor Freight
Tools 8” Wet Grinder #95236 and is
used for reference. This bracket and
grinder are not included with these jigs.
Any similar bracket may be used. A
wet, low speed grinder like HFT item
#95236 is recommended for best
results. Please see item 3 on page 6 of
this manual for details.
Standard Bracket Unit:
1. Assemble the two Bracket Supports to
the Bracket Crosspiece using the two
bolts supplied. Tighten securely.
2. Attach the mounting Brackets to the wet
grinder as shown in the photo above.
If not using #95236 8” Wet Grinder, outfit your
grinder with a similar bracket set up.
Item # 95329 Device for Rough Turning and
Hollow Cutting Tools:
1. Insert the chisel or other tool (not included) into
the Support Unit as shown in picture above right.
2. Rotate the tool Bed into the desired position.
Tighten the Screw to fix the Tool Bed into place.
3. Tighten the chisel in place using the Upper
Locking Knob, and the Side Locking Knob.
4. Place the Support Unit on the Standard
Bracket Unit as shown in photo at above right.
5. Check the position of the chisel on the grinding
wheel before beginning grinding.
6. When the chisel is positioned properly, turn on
the grinding wheel (not included)
7. Slowly rotate the chisel cutting edge on the grinding
wheel until the desired edge has been created.
8. Remove the assembly from the grinding wheel, and turn the grinding wheel off.
Remove the chisel from the Support Unit.

1. In addition to grinding rounded chisels freehand as discussed on the previous
page, item #95329 may be used to grind beveled chisels at a preset angle.
2. For grinding beveled flat chisels, assemble this jig as shown in illustration
above left.
3. The bevel angle can be set by rotating the Locking Ring (1) on the Support (7).
Read the angle on the scale stamped in the Support. Lock the angle in place
by tightening the Countersunk Screw (6).
4. Insert the chisel and lock in place tightening the Milled Screw (4).
5. Slide the Support (7) and the assembly onto the standard bracket. Adjust to
the grinding wheel and sharpen the chisel by lightly touching it to the grinding
wheel.
6. When sharpened, turn the grinder off, and remove the chisel from the jig.

1. Assemble the Scissors sharpening
device as shown in the assembly
diagram at the bottom of this page.
2. Mount the assembled device on a
standard bracket unit as in the
illustration at right.
3. Mount your scissors (not included)
in the device as shown in the
illustration at right. The inner face
of the scissor blade should be
against the Backing Plate (2) and
the outer face of the blade should
be against the Scissors Support
(1). Please refer to the illustration.
4. Adjust the device so the cutting edge of the scissor blade lightly rests on the
grinding wheel. Adjust the position of the scissor blade, so when moved
sideways, it will lightly move along the surface of the grinding wheel.
NOTE: The goal of sharpening scissors is to create a cutting edge at
approximately 90° to the flat inner surface of the scissor blade. The cutting
edge will be very slightly hollowed (4” radius) based in the diameter of the
grinding wheel.
5. Turn on the grinding wheel. Slide the scissor blade across the grinding wheel
to sharpen its full length. Repeat as necessary. Turn the grinding wheel OFF
when finished.
6. Repeat this process with the other blade.
7. Shut off and disconnect from electric supply when finished.

Item 95332 Universal Jig for Scrapers, Barrel Scrapers, Curved Drawing
Knives and Screw Drivers:
1. This device is for “freehand”
sharpening of a large variety of
tools. It provides a stable platform
to hold the tool against the
grinding wheel, but does not
restrict the angle or bevel which is
hand applied.
2. Slide the Platform onto the
standard mounting bracket or any
similar bracket.
3. Adjust the position of the jig as
needed for your sharpening task.
4. Insert the two threaded knobs in the threaded holes in the platform. Adjust the
angle of the Platform as desired and fix in place by tightening the knobs.
5. Turn the grinder on. Lightly touch the tool on the grinder to sharpen.
6. When the tool is sharp, remove it from the grinder and turn the grinder off.

This jig is for sharpening spoon gouges and similar rounded chisels.
1. Slide the Mounting Bracket (2) on the Standard Mounting Bracket on your
grinder.
2. Mount your spoon chisel or similar tool in the Adjustable Clamp Assembly (1).
Tighten securely using the Tightening Knob.
3. If desired, place a bushing on the rod portion of the Adjustable Clamp
Assembly. The Bushings will limit the movement of the rod in the Mounting
Bracket during the sharpening process. This can help you sharpen more
precisely.
4. Insert the rod of the clamp
assembly into the Mounting
Bracket. If desired, another
Bushing (3) can be attached to the
rod.
5. Adjust the jig so the tool rests
lightly on the grinding wheel.
6. Turn the grinder on. Lightly touch
the tool on the grinder to sharpen.
7. You can rotate your tool on the grinding wheel by turning the rod in the
Mounting Bracket.
8. When the tool is sharp, remove it from the grinder and turn the grinder off.

Item 95334 Jig for Sharpening Axes:
This jig is for hatchets, axes and similar tools.
1. Slide the Mounting Bracket on the
Standard Mounting Bracket on
your grinder.
2. Position your tool Mounting
Bracket as shown in the
illustration at right.
3. Adjust the jig so the tool rests
lightly on the grinding wheel. The
rotation direction of the grinding
wheel should be toward the tool
edge.
4. Turn the grinder on. Lightly touch
the tool on the grinder to sharpen.
5. Press the tool handle forward and
back to rotate the tool edge on the
grinding wheel as indicated by the arrows in the illustration. Always face tool
blade away from your body.
6. When the tool is sharp, remove it from the grinder and turn the grinder off.

Maintenance
1. Periodically inspect each tool for loose bolts, bent or damaged components.
2. Regularly wipe down and clean each tool to keep it in best condition.
3. Occasionally tighten the many hinge points of each tool.
4. When not in use, store this tool in a dry place, protecting it from wet or
corrosive atmosphere. Protect this tool from accidental damage by placing it
in a storage area away from other work or traffic.
