IMPORTANT!
To eliminate hazards, everyone who uses, services, repairs or inspects this machine must read these instructions.
Where the machine is driven on public roads all road traffic regulations must be complied with.
On public reads the delivery spout must be rotated inwards at right angles to the diections of travel, and folded down.
During the hours of darness on public roads the machine must be fitted with lights on the bolt-on mountings, as per road traffic regulations.
On public roads trailers must not be hitched to the machines towing attachment and bowed.
On public roads the guard plate must be fitted to the dividers.
Service and repair work may be carried out only with the tractor engine switched off.
After service/repair work, it is vital to ensure that guards etc, are fitted again properly.

Observer the rules for preventing accidents carefully!
The machine can be attached to any Category I or II tractor.
Use only the driveshaft supplied with the trailer, and trim it to the appropriate length.
Fit the torque limiter on the trailer end of the shaft.
Use the chain to stop the tubular guard rotating.

Points to note for grinding knives
1. Important!
Before grinding knives, switch feed mechanism off (see section 4.3.1.).
Adjust and run machine only wehn raised!
MH 433: grinding can be done only with 6 or 12 knives
MH 434: grinding can be done only with 5 or 10 knives
2. Check that knives are parallel to cutter bar
Section 4.3. explains how to adjust knives.
Note!
Before regrinding check grinding disc for wear. Grinding disc must project miniumum mm from carrying plate.
3. Check grinder wheel setting:
a) Seen from above, the grinder wheel must be parallel to the knives (1).
b) When the wheel just touches the top end of the knife, make sure there is a gap e bottom (2):
1 to 1,5 mm for MEX I K, MEX II K, MEX III SK and MEX OK
1,5 to 2 mm for MEX V K and MEX V SK
4. Shift grinder wheel with nut (3) just for enough for the wheel to make contact
with the bottom end of the knife, too.

5. Now grinding can start.
Important!
Change direction of rotation on MEX V K and MEX V SK!
The cutter head should rotate at 500 to 600 rpm,
i.e. at most half of motor revs.
6. After 2 to 3 minutes grinding, or when fewer sparks are produced, move the wheel about
half a turn further in.
7. After at least 3 minutes grinding switch off p.t.o., move grinder wheel back to its original
position, open cutter head housing and check knife adges.
8. Only for MEX V – K, MEX V – SK
If grinding goes more than halfway through the usable layer (5), a projection can develop here
(4) this must be removed by hand grinding.

Working with the harvester
Cutting should take place roughly 10-15 cm.
Never let the MEX II-K drag on the ground.
Start running at low speed, then icrease p.t.o. shaft speed to 540
to 580 rpm.
Chop length depends on the number of blades (see section 3.7.).
In case of high maturity maize you can change the smooth plate (8) for a rasp plate (11).
Fit cracker vanes (12) to cutter head (see section 2.10.).

Maintenance
Checking chain / V-belt tension after the 3 to 4 hours' operation.
Important!
Do not open the top of the housing with the cutter wheel running.
Comply with the instructions in the lubrication schedule exactly.
Folding down of ejector spout
Before folding the ejector spout down, turn it inwards.
Let the ejector spout down carefully it need be, have
someone to help standing by.
Make sure that no-one is in the swivelling range of the
ejector spout.
Make sure you are standing firmly.
Place your right foot on the non-slip area (F).
Support the ejector spout with the left hand and at the same time,
loosen the butterfly nut (K) with the right hand.
When foldiny the ejector spout down, support it with both hands.
To put up
the ejector spout, proceed according to the above Instructions, but
in reverse.

Safety Precaution!
Changing from working position to transport position
is only to be carried out on even, firm ground.
Conversion from working to transport position
1. For safety reasons, turn off drive shaft and wait for rotary
cutter to completely stop.
2. Slacken driving belt (lever in pos. E)
3. Loosen setting screw (2a)
4. Make sure that swivel area is free and that nobody is standing
in the danger area.
5. Swivel maize-intake to the rear (Pos. T) and secure with
spring pin (V).
Conversion from transport to working position
1. Remove spring pin (V).
2. Make sure that swivel area is free and that nobody is standing
in the danger area.
3. Swivel maize-intake to the front (Pos. A)
4. Secure in this position with screw (2a)
5. Tension driving belt (lever in Pos. D)
6. Check that driving belt sits correctly (not twisted).

The defined use of the machine
The machine "MEX GT (Type MH 428)" is intended solely for normal use in agricultural work.
Harvester with maisze auxiliary appliance: for the harvesting of silo maize
Harvester with pick-up or with mowing device: for the cutting of green fodder
Any other uses outside of these are regarded as undefined.
The manufacturer takes no responsibility for any resulting damage which occurs henceforth. The risk is carried by the user alone.
The keeping of operating, service and maintenance requirements layed down by the manufacturer also come under the heading of
"defined use".
Safety hints
1. Turn p.t.o. on
Turn the p.t.o. on only when all safety devices (coverings, protective aprons, casings, etc.) are in proper condition and attached to the
implement in the correct protective positions.
2. Switch-on the machine only in working position and do not exceed the prescribed power take-off speed (for example max. 540 rpm).
A transfer, which is located near the gear, advises which p.t.o. speed your machine is equipped for.
3. Pay attention to correct p.t.o. direction of rotation!
4. Wear hearing protection
The noise level in the workplace can deviate from the measured value (see Technical Data) partly because of the differing cabin types
fo various tractors.
If a noise level of 85 dB (A) is reached or exceeded, the farmer must have suitable hearing protection in readiness
(UVV 1.1 § 2).
If a noise level of 90 dB (A) is reached or exceeded, the hearing protection must be worn (UVV 1.1 § 16).

Schwenkgeschwindigkeitsregelung bei hydraulischer Auswurfverstelleinrichtung

In der Steckkupplung sind zwei Drosseln eingebaut, welche die Öldurchflußmenge
reduzieren.
Sollte die Schwenkgeschwindigkeit des Auswurfkrümmers zu langsam sein (geringe
Hydraulikleistung) so besteht die Möglichkeit, diese durch Vergrößern der mittleren
Bohrung (ø=0,5 mm) der Drossel D1 um ca. 0,2 - 0,3 mm zu erhöhen.
Besteht aus folgenden Teilen:

2. Road Transport hitching up, preparing for operation
2.1. Lug (1) helps to make road transport straigth forward.
2.2. Before the harvester gets hitched up to the tractor and prepared for operation, all bearings and the lubrication points marked must be
greased/oiled as per lubrication schedule (p. 13).
Before hitching up for the first time, you must also check that the 12 blades in the cutter head are held firmly in place; tighten any loose
the attachment bolts right up.
2.3. Points to note when hitching machine to tractor:
- Move the tractor up to the machine so as to leave a gap (3) of at least 80 mm between them.
- The three-point linkage is designed for attaching to any Category I or II tractor.
Hitching pins (4) are secured only by clamping sleeves (5), so that they can be turned round at any times; the MEX OK can thus be attached
to the tractor in the most appropriate way.

Drawbar coupling
- Only multiaxial trailers may be coupled to the drawbar coupling
at the rear of the implement.
Caution!
The pistol catch must be secured against unwanted
release. Therefore always take care that it catches
(P) properly.
Road Transport
Observe the regulations issued by your country's legislative
body.
Travelling on public roads may only be undertaken as is
described in the chapter "Transporting Position".
Fasten lower hydraulic link so that implement cannot swing
out sideways.
Trailers may not be attached to the drawbar coupling when
travelling on public roads.
2.4. After hitching up to the top and bottom links (6 and 11), use
the tractor hydraulics to lift the machine off the ground. Adjust
spindle (10) for bottom link so that machine is horizontal
(see from behind). Adjust tractor hydraulics so that, with the
machine in down position, cutter fitting is approx. 10 to 5 cm
above the ground. Fix the bottom links or centrally as possible
at the side and pin jack (8) up. What height to set the divider
tips to depents on the condition of the crop.
2.5. Fitting the driveshaft:
Important!
Use only the driveshaft suplied, and take care that
it is cut to length correctly; otherwise no claims can
be acceptal under our warranty.
2.5.1. As supplied, the driveshaft is too long. If (as is probable) it
needs shortening, both halves must be shortened by exactly
the same amount, and the cut surfaces must be deburred.
The aim should be to maximize the extent to which the guard
tube covers the drifeshaft in working position. We recommend
shortening the driveshaft in a properly equipped workshop.
Important!
Take care that the driveshaft is cut to the correct
length; if it is not shortenend enough, the bearings
may be damaged as a result.

2.5.2. When fitting the driveshaft ensure that the freewheel is at the
harvester end.
2.5.3. Use the chain to prevent the guard tube from rotating with
the driveshaft.
2.6. To avoid damage to the driveshaft, us the top end on bottom
stops on the tractor to adjust the linkage arms.

In working position divieder points should normally be about
10 cm off the ground.
2.7. Bowdencable control for spout.
2.7.1. Mount bracket (14) on tractor mudguard, within driver's
reach.
2.7.2. Insert complete control device (13) into bracket, and secure
with hex bolt (16).
2.7.3. Functional test: lever (19) (with notched segment) is used to
adjust the spout flap; crank (20) is forchanging the direction
of the spout.
2.7.4. The spout can be adjusted with the Bowden cable only over
a limited range. If the harvester is reattached parallel to the
tractor instead of in line, on vice version, the spout can be
repositioned in a few simple steps, without tools:
- Remove linch pin (32) and pin (33) from the bracket fitted to
segment (27) of the spout support.
- Pivot the spout into the position required, and fix it in place
with pin (33) and linch pin (32).

2.7.5. In transport position it is also possible to fold the spout down, once T-screw (21) has been loosened.
2.8. Before towing the MEX OK on the road, it is essential to place a guard (22) on the dividers; if necessary, fit light assembly 1) (available
as an option).
2.9. During operation all accident prevention and road traffic regulations must be complied with.
2.10. Installing kernel cracker at MEX OK cutter head
(optional extra).

2.10.2. Fit all left-hand and right hand cracker vanes (45) etternately,
but tighten bolts and nuts only slightly. See verso for confi-
guartion.
2.10.3. Set vanes as far out as possible (46) and rotate cutter head
by hand in direction shown. This matches vane position to
the narrowest point (47: cracker concave).
2.10.4. Mark vane position with scribing tool, nail or other sharp-
pointed object (48).
2.10.5. Now move each vane 6 to 9 mm in (49) by tapping gently
with a hammer, this is equivalent to a gap of 2 to 3 mm (47a)
between vanes and concave (1 mm) gap (47) is equivalent
to 3 mm travel (48).
2.10.6. Once the vanes are set right, tighten all vane bolts and nuts up
well (torque 10 kpm). Tighten bolts (50a) up with 15 kpm.
2.10.7. Before using the harvester, give the cutter head several turns
by hand (with the harvester off the ground).
After the first few hours harvesting, check that bolts
(50) are tight.
