The Extron DVI 101 is a compact, economical cable equalizer that extends Digital Visual
Interface (DVI) signals beyond the specied cable limits of 15 feet (5m).
The DVI 101 attaches to the end of a long cable run of up to 200 feet (61 m). It
automatically provides active equalization to ensure optimal image quality with HDTV
1080p and high resolution computer video signals up to 1920x1200. The DVI 101 is ideal
for both temporary applications and permanent installations with long DVI cable runs.
The DVI 101 passes EDID information and supports the long distance transmission of
HDTV signals with HDCP for copy protection of digital television broadcasts and high
resolution digital video output from DVD and Blu-rayDisc™ players.
With appropriate adapters, the DVI 101 is fully compatible with the DVI digital video, audio,

ATTENTION:
The length of the exposed wires in the stripping process is critical. The ideal length is 3/16 inches (5 mm). Any
longer and the exposed wires may touch, causing a short circuit between them. Any shorter and the wires can be
easily pulled out even if tightly fastened by the captive screws.
Always use a power supply supplied by or specied by Extron. Use of an unauthorized power supply voids all
regulatory compliance certication and may cause damage to the supply and the end product.
Utilisez toujours une source d’alimentation fournie ou recommandée par Extron. L’utilisation d’une source
d’alimentation non autorisée annule toute certication de conformité réglementaire, et peut endommager la source
d’alimentation et l’unité.
If not provided with a power supply, this product is intended to be supplied by a UL Listed power source marked
“Class2” or “LPS” rated 12 VDC, 0.5 A minimum.
Si le produit n’est pas fourni avec une source d’alimentation, il doit être alimenté par une source d’alimentation
certiée UL de classe 2 ou LPS avec une tension nominale de 12 Vcc, 0.5 A minimum.
Unless otherwise stated, the AC/DC adapters are not suitable for use in air handling spaces or in wall cavities.
The power supply is to be located within the same vicinity as the Extron AV processing equipment in an ordinary
location, Pollution Degree 2, secured to the equipment rack within the dedicated closet, podium, or desk.

structure similaire.
Input cable lengths
The maximum input cable length for the equalizer is 200 feet (61 m), for the highest transmission rate of 165 MHz. Longer cables
may be used at a lower rate. High quality cable can increase the distance and rate of transmission. However, the achievable
distance and speed are also contingent on the sensitivity of the input source and the display device and on the source of power
to the equalizer (external or input source).
The table in figure4 shows the maximum cable lengths recommended for each resolution, depending on whether the equalizer is
powered from the input source or an external power supply.
NOTE Avoid using couplers and adapters between cables, as this can result in signal degradation.

Power and signal status LED — This dual-color LED lights yellow when the DVI is receiving power. When a DVI input signal
is present, this LED lights green.
NOTE If the LED does not light when attempting to power the unit from the source device, use an external power
supply instead.
Powering Via the Input Source
For shorter distances, the DVI 101 can receive power from the input device via the 5 VDC signal on pin 14 of the DVI 101. This
eliminates the external power supply. However, for best unit performance, the external supply is recommended.
NOTE If the source does not adequately supply the +5 V power, an external power supply must be used. To verify if the
source is providing power, connect a short DVI cable from the input device to the input of the DVI. If the DVI101 front panel
LED lights yellow, the source is supplying power.
Mounting the DVI 101
The DVI 101 can be mounted on a rack shelf, under furniture, or placed on a table top.
Tabletop mounting
Four self-adhesive rubber feet are included with the DVI 101. For tabletop use, attach one foot at each corner on the bottom
surface of the unit (see Under-furniture mounting on the next page).
Rack mounting
Extron has a variety of optional rack shelf and furniture mounting kits available at www.extron.com that can be used with the
DVI101 (see Rack mounting procedure on the next page).
UL rack mounting guidelines
The following Underwriters Laboratories (UL) guidelines apply to the safe installation of the equipment in a rack.
1. Elevated operating ambient temperature — If the equipment is installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the
operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient temperature. Therefore, install
the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature specied by Extron (Tma = +122 °F,
+50°C).
2. Reduced air flow — Install the equipment in a rack so that the amount of air ow required for safe operation of the
equipment is not compromised.
3. Mechanical loading — When mounting the equipment in the rack, ensure that uneven mechanical loading does not cause a
hazardous condition.
4. Circuit overloading — When connecting the equipment to the supply circuit, consider the effect that circuit overloading
might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Consider the equipment nameplate ratings when addressing this
concern.
5. Reliable earthing (grounding) — Maintain reliable grounding of rack-mounted equipment. Pay particular attention to supply
connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (for example, use of power strips).
