Cautions

z Never use the player during driving a car or using other vehicles

to avoid traffic accidents. This is also content of the law of some

countries. Even while walking it may be dangerous especially

when crossing the street. Please do not listen in extremely high

volume to avoid any dangers. Wherever potential risks may arise,

please do not use the player to ensure your safety.

z Please insert the earphone prior to turn on the player, which can

not only avoid damaging the earphone but keep the player in

good condition also. Turn off the player when it is not used.

z Keep the player clean and never store it close to heat sources or

dirty, humid or rainy places and avoid direct sunlight.

z If the surface is dirty, please clean it with soft cloth wet with clean

water or soft cleaning fluids and never clean the case with alco-

hol or aggressive diluents.

z Never use the player in extremely dry environment to avoid static

discharging.

z Never disconnect the player from PC during downloading,

uploading and formatting to avoid failures and losses of data.

z When the player is used as removable disk, please follow strictly

the given file download and upload procedures. Our company

does not resume any responsibility for any data losses due to mis-

use.

z Important: Because of the different memory calculating methods

and the player software (firmware) stored in the device flash

memory it will cause differences between flash memory marked

capacity and real capacity. The real flash memory capacity is

less than the normally indicated memory capacity of this device.

Due to different firmware size, it will have different free flash

memory capacity.

Notice

z Please charge the battery immediately when the display indi-

cates low battery, or the device will be powered off automati-

cally. In this case, all settings will be saved.

z Please disconnect the player from PC properly to avoid data

loss.

z Battery service life may be various from different using conditions,

manufacturer and manufacturing time.

z In both power on and power off state, the player may be

charged by the connection to PC via the USB line.

Before Using

Charging the Battery

The device has a rechargeable built-in lithium ion battery. It is

charged via USB connection. You are required to charge it when

you use it for the first time.

To charge the battery, connect the larger end of the USB cable to

the USB interface of PC, and connect the other smaller end of the

USB cable to the USB interface of this player. For that remove the

rubber cover to open the USB port. The device is connected to PC

and being charged.

A battery icon like will be displayed at the upper right corner

of the screen. The following pictures indicate the charging status of

the battery:

1. When the battery is charging, the icon will be charging from an

empty battery to a full one to indicate the process: Æ.

2. The following icon will replace the charging one when the bat-

tery is full but the power supply is not being cut off.

3. The player will be automatically shut off when the power is used

up. In this case, all settings will be saved.

4. Power saving mode: user can define the time off mode, such as

stop off, sleep off, backlight off to save power.

Notice: The device is not available during charging.

Note:

The MP3 player only accepts the standard USB 2.0 output

voltage and current to charge the built-in Li-Ion battery:

5 Volt voltage and less than 500mA current. If charging volt-

age and current are out of the indicated limits, it will dam-

age the battery and the mp3 player. There will be no war-

ranty in this case. Please make sure the output voltage and

current of the USB port on your PC or USB adapter are suffi-

cient before charging this player. If you found the screen is

blinking during using the USB wall adapter, please use the PC

USB port to charge the player instead of USB wall adapter.

Driver

Windows2000/ME/XP/Vista

This player is plug & play for WIN2000/XP/ME/Vista OS.

Windows98SE

Under Windows98SE drivers have to be installed. Do not connect

the unit to your computer before the installation of the driver is fin-

ished. Insert the provided CD into your CDROM drive or download

the driver from our web site. Double click on SETUP.EXE and follow

the instructions on the screen. Connect the MP-266 and the PC

with the provided USB cable after finishing the installation.

Connect to a PC

To connect the player with the PC for transferring files:

Plug the larger end of the USB cable to the USB port of the PC, and

plug the smaller end to the USB port of the player.

For Windows98SE/ME/2000

When the “ ” icon appears at the right bottom of the PC screen,

double click “My Computer” on the desktop, you see a removable

disk which indicates the player. This is called the USB standard

mode, also the Media Storage Class mode (MSC mode). Just use

the removable disk as a regular local disk, copying files from or to it.

For Windows XP (with Media Player 10 or above)/Windows Vista

It is only in this configuration that the Media

Transport Protocol mode (MTP mode) is avail-

able. In the player MTP mode is set with

Settings/USB Mode/MTP Mode. The player is

recognized as an “Audio Player” and follow-

ing is displayed:

To switch from the MTP mode to MSC mode,

press the button on the player. The Player now exists as a

removable disc in the My Computer.

Loading files to the player

To download the files from your computer, perform the following

steps:

Files that are not copy-protected

1. Open the Windows Explorer or My computer.

2. “Removable Disk” (MSC mode) or “Audio Player” (MTP mode) is

displayed.

3. Select the files on your computer and simply move it into the

“Removable Disk” or “Audio Player” in the usual way (drag-and-

drop, or copy-and-paste). After copying is completed, the data

will be available on the player.

DRM-protected WMA files (MTP mode)

Do not copy and paste WMA with DRM-protected files to the

player directly. The file will not play unless it is transferred using the

following procedures.

1. Make sure the MP3 player is in MTP mode.

2. Launch Windows Media Player 10 or above.

3. Select the “Sync” tab in the window.

4. In the “Sync” window, select “Audio Player”, then drag and drop

the DRM-protected WMA files into the “Sync List”.

5. Click on “Start Sync”. Your DRM-protected tracks will be synchro-

nized with your MP3 player.

Note:

z The synchronization procedures can also be used to transfer

and manage the files without DRM-protected function.

z For details about usage of Windows Media Player, refer to

the Windows Media Player Help.

z Please do not disconnect the USB cable during loading or

synchronizing. It may cause malfunction of the player and

the files.

Removing the Player From the PC Safely

For Windows2000/ME/XP/Vista with MSC mode

1. Left click the icon at the right hand corner of the taskbar.

2. Click the pop-up mini-window with message of “Safely Remove

the USB Mass Storage Device – Drive (X)”.

3. When you are prompted to remove the device, pull out the

player.

For Windows98 and MTP mode

Please make sure the data transfer is completed before unplug-

ging the media player.

Special reminder:

Do not disconnect the USB cable when data is being trans-

mitted between PC and player, which may damage data or

cause data losses in the player. Disconnection should be

conducted only when “device can now be safely removed

from the system” is displayed; When the USB is in operation,

other button is inactive. If the player fails to power on due to

data loss or I/O mistake reminder by mal-operation, please

refer to the trouble shooting section for solution.

To power on:

Press and hold the button until you see prompt on the display.

To power off:

Press and hold the button until you see prompt on the display.

Reset function

If the player can’t be used

normally for some reasons

(should not happen in normal operation), please use a small

cylindrical plastic stick to reset the player.

In this case the player should not be connected to the PC or

an adapter.

How to use the MP3 player

Operation in Main menu

A. Press the  or the  button to select the

option.

B. Press the button to confirm the selection.

Operation in submenu

The submenu options associated to any of the

modes can be called by pressing the key.

A. Press the V+ or the V– button to select the

option.

B. Press the  button to go back to the parent

menu.

C. Press the  button to enter the submenu

and confirm a selection.

D. Press and hold the Play button to enter the Main menu.

Playing Music

Press and hold the button to display the Main menu. Use the 

confirm selection. Now you are in the MUSIC mode, refer music

playing to the basic operations.

Lyrics

This player supports the lyrics function of MP3 playback.

Important

Lyrics file format has to be *.LRC.

File name has to be the same as the songs name.

Lyrics file has to be placed in the folder of the song.

Operation in FM mode

Press and hold the button to display the Main menu. Use the 

or  button to select “FM Radio”, and press the button to

enter radio mode.

1. Press the Play button to change mode between the Preset

and Manual mode. Press and hold this button to exit FM mode

and return to the Main menu.

2. Press the  or  button to choose stations which have been

saved in the Preset mode or to adjust the frequency in the Man-

ual mode. Press and hold these buttons to choose stations

quickly in the Preset mode or change to auto scan in the Manual

mode.

Note: To receive FM radio, the earphone must be connected

to the player since the earphone cable serves as FM an-

tenna.

Band US band (87.5MHz~108MHz), Europe band

(87.5MHz~108MHz), and Japan band (76~90MHz)

Record Starts FM recording. During recording, press

button to pause or resume recording. Press to

stop recording and return to radio mode.

Radio Data System

RDS, or the Radio Data System, is a system by which useful informa-

tion can be transmitted to a tuner or receiver.

This player supports PS, RT and Time in Scan mode but not in Preset

mode.

PS: Program service. This is the name of the station currently tuned

to. For example, if you were listening to Radio 2 on a suitably-

equipped radio, the frequency in the display would be replaced

by _BBC_R2_. If Classic FM were tuned in, the display would switch

from the frequency to CLASSIC_. The Program Service name is lim-

ited to eight characters.

RT: Radio text. It could be information about the presenter, station

or program you are listening to. For example, BBC Radio 1's Radio-

Text always gives information about the presenter and program

e.g. JOHN PEEL - TONIGHT IN SESSION ETC., whereas Classic FM

gives information which includes a web address for the station, e.g.

CLASSIC FM ON THE WEB - WWW.CLASSICFM.COM.

Playing voice

Press and hold the button to display the Main menu. Use the 

or  button to select “Voice”, and press the button to enter

voice mode. For detail information about playing, see the “Basic

Operation” section.

z Play recorded files from FM

z Play recorded files from microphone

z All functions of the key are similar to those of the function

music play (see page 14).

During recording, press button to pause or resume recording.

Press to save the recorded file which can be played

immediately. To playback the recorded file, press the button to

start, pause or resume playback.

Viewing Photos

To view photos:

1. Press and hold the button to display the Main menu.

2. Use the  or  button to select “Photo” and press the but-

ton to confirm.

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select a folder or image, and press

 to confirm.

4. Press the  button to return the previous menu.

5. During playback, press the button to enter to its submenu

which contains Slide Show and Manual Scan. For Slide Show, the

photos are played in sequence. For Manual Scan, press the

V+/V– button to see the photo one by one.

Playing Movies

1. Press and hold the button to display the Main menu.

2. Use the  or  button to select “Movie” menu, and press the

button to enter the video player mode.

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select a folder or a video file that

you want to play, and press the  button to play. For detail

information about playing, see the “Basic Operation” section.

Videos can be played only if they are in MTV format. Therefore it is

necessary to convert it with the MTVVideoConverter program. The

following formats can be converted: AVI (*.avi), WMV (*.wmv,

*.asf), MPEG1 (*.mpg), QuickTime (*.mov, *.qt), MPEG2 (*.vob),

RealMedia (*.rm, *.rmvb,…), MPEG4, 3GP (*.3gp)

How to convert video to MTV format

1. Select MTVVideoConverter and double click it to enter the

folder.

2. Select and double click VideoConvert.exe program in the se-

lected folder to enter.

3. Click “Input Video” to select the

files that need to be converted. You

can set the size and quality at the

same time. The screen resolution of

this player is 128x160 pixels, please

set the size equal or less than

128x160 pixels. The higher quality

produces larger file size and vice

versa. The higher the quality setting

value, the clearer the picture will be and vice versa.

4. Click “Start Conversion” to start the converting. Meanwhile you

can click “Cancel Conversion” to stop converting.

5. When there is an “End of Conversion” window eject out, it means

the conversion is finished. You may close the windows and up-

load the converted movie with MTV format to the player.

Deleting Files

1. Press and hold the button to display the Main menu.

2. Use the  or  button to select “Delete” and press the but-

ton to confirm.

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select a folder or a file.

4. Press the button to display the confir-

mation menu.

5. Press the V+/V– button to choose “Yes” or

“No”.

6. Press the  button to return to the submenu.

7. Press the  button to confirm the deletion.

8. Press and hold the Play button to open

the Main menu.

E-Book mode

1. Press and hold the button to display the

Main menu.

2. Use the  or  button to select “E-Book”

and press the button to confirm.

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select a folder or

a text file, and press  to confirm.

4. Press the V+/V– button to turn over the E-

book by row.

5. Press the / button to turn over the E-book

by page.

6. Press and hold the Play button to open the Main menu.
