This section describes how to use the Kodak Professional 8670 PS
thermal printer (8670 printer) with a Macintosh computer.
Printing Software Included on the CD
The 8670 printer CD-ROM includes printing software that allows you to
select the printer’s ribbon and paper type and apply color management to
your print job.
The 8670 printer CD-ROM includes the following printing software:
AdobePS—version 8.5.1 of Adobe’s printer driver.
Kodak 8670 PS Plug-In—used with the Adobe PS Version 8.5.1 printer
driver.
Kodak PS Custom PPD—a PostScript printer description file used with
the Kodak 8670 PS Plug-In.
Network Utilities—which include the Kodak Printer Utility V2.0, a utility
for renaming the printer over AppleTalk networks.
NOTE: The CD also includes the Kodak 8670 PS PPD, a standard
PostScript printer description file for use with drivers other than
those included on the CD.
There is also a readme file on the CD that has instructions for installing
the custom PPD for Macintosh.

Hardware and Software Requirements
The printer driver for the Macintosh requires the following hardware and
software:
System 7.5.5 operating system software.
68040 processor with 16 MB of RAM minimum.
32 MB of free hard drive space.
Installing the Software
1.
Insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive.
2.
Follow the prompts to locate the printing software for Macintosh.
3.
Use the “Easy Install” to install all the printing software.
4.
Copy the Network Utilities folder to your hard drive.

Selecting the Printer in the Chooser
Before you can print, you must select an 8670 printer from the Chooser.
This will be the default printer until you select a different printer.
After you select the printer, you can use the Page Setup and Print dialog
boxes to specify the options you want.

Open the Chooser.
A window similar to the following appears.
NOTE: The list of AppleTalk zones appears only if you are connected to a
network with more than one zone.

AdobePS
icon.
A list of PostScript printers for the selected AppleTalk zone appears.
3.
Select the 8670 printer you wish to use.
NOTE: Make sure that Active is the selection for the AppleTalk option.
4.
Close the Chooser.
Selecting the PostScript Printer Description File
After you select your default printer, you need to select a PostScript
Printer Description (PPD) file.

Using the Page Setup Window
After you close the Chooser, you are prompted to check the page setup.
1.
Select “Page Setup” from the File menu to change your page setup
options in your application. The following window appears.
The Page Setup options
are as follows:
Paper
—Available sizes:
Letter
8.5x14 in
A4
8.5x12 in. (216x307 mm)
9.5x14 in (241x358 mm)
210 x 307 mm
210 x 358 mm
Orientation
—allows you to specify if printed images will be vertical
(portrait) or horizontal (landscape). The default is portrait.
Scale
—lets you change the size of the printed image.The printer
scales the image by the percentage in this field. The default is 100%.

Sending a File to the Printer
The following steps describe how to print using the 8670 printer without
applying a color connector file to your print job. To print with color

The print dialog box has the following options:
Copies
—allows you to specify the number of copies (up to 99) to
make.
Pages
—allows you to specify which pages to print. The default is All.
To print specific pages, enter the numbers of the first and last pages.
To print one page, type the same number in both the From and To
boxes.
Destination
—allows you to specify if the file is sent to the printer or
to a file (used to create PostScript files).

Page Media
—options are Paper and Transparency.
Paper Grade
—options are Photographic, Commercial, or Publication
paper.

Fast Transparencies
—select Fast Transparencies to print
transparencies faster by using less dye. This option is not available
with a CMYK ribbon.

XtraLife for CMY Ribbon and Paper
—check XtraLife to place an
overcoat on the print.
Anti-Aliasing
—select Anti-Aliasing to minimize the pixel contrast at
the edges of text.
Changing the ribbon type may cause the print mode selection to
become unavailable. The messages tell you that:
the current print mode cannot be used with the new ribbon type.
the print mode will be changed to the default for the ribbon you
selected.
Click on
OK
to dismiss the message and change the print mode. Click
on
Cancel
to dismiss the message without making changes.
