IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, in order to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or
injury, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:
Please read all instructions.
Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
To protect against fire, electric shock or injury, do not place cord, plug, or coffeemak-
er base in water or other liquid.
Warning: to reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove the bottom cover
from the coffeemaker. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Repair should be
done by authorized service personnel only.
Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
Unplug from outlet when coffeemaker is not in use and before cleaning. Allow to
cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning the coffeemaker.
Do not operate coffeemaker without water in reservoir.
Do not yank on cord; instead grasp plug and pull from outlet.
Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance
malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return the appliance to the near-
est authorized service facility for examination, repair, or adjustment.
To avoid an electrical overload, do not operate another high-wattage appliance on
the same circuit with this Coffeemaker.
The use of an accessory not approved for use with this coffeemaker may result in
fire, electric shock or injury.
Do not use outdoors.
Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surfaces.
Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a microwave or heated
oven.
Do not use coffeemaker for other than intended use.
Do not remove cup or mug from base while liquid is dripping from basket. Allow bas-
ket to cool before removing it from coffeemaker.
Do not pour liquid other than water or the cleaning solution specified in this manual
into the water reservoir.
Do not move coffeemaker when cup or mug is still on base and contains hot liquid.
Do not operate in the presence of explosive and/or flammable fumes.
This product is intended for household use ONLY and not for commercial or industrial
use.
Scalding may occur if the lid is opened during brewing.

BEFORE FIRST USE
Black models may have a white film. Wipe with a
soft cloth to restore the shine. Before first use,
wash the Permanent Filter, Filter Basket, Travel
Mug and Lid. Pour one full Mug of cold tap water
only into the Water Reservoir up to the Max Fill
Line (Figure A). Do not put coffee grounds in the
Filter. Brew the plain water through.

ELECTRICAL CORD
The cord length of these Coffeemakers was selected to reduce safety hazards that may
occur with a longer cord. If more cord length is needed, an extension cord may be
used. It should be rated not less than 10 amperes, 120 volts, and should have
Underwriters Laboratories listing. A properly rated extension cord may be purchased
from a Black & Decker Household Appliance Company-Owned or Authorized Service
Center. When using a longer cord, be sure that it does not drape over a working area or
dangle where it could be pulled on or tripped over.
POLARIZED PLUG
Brew 'N Go™ Coffeemakers have a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other).
As a safety feature, this plug will fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does
not fit fully into the outlet, reverse it. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician.
Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature by modifying the plug in any way.

BREWING COFFEE
1. Place the Permanent Filter into the Filter Basket.
(Figure B) Add approximately 3 tablespoons of
coffee grounds for 16 oz. (473 ml) of coffee. NOTE:
Model DCM19 makes 15 oz. (444 ml) (Use more or
less coffee depending on individual taste.)
2. Pour one full mug of cold tap water into the Water
Reservoir.
3. Close the Reservoir Cover. Remove the Lid from
the Travel Mug and add sweetener, cream, or milk
before brewing. Snap the lid back on the mug.
Place the Mug on the Mug Rest directly under the
Filter Basket opening.
4. Push the Start Lever and the "On" Light will glow.
(Figure C) The Coffeemaker and On Light will turn
off automatically when the brewing is done. Allow
the coffee to finish dripping from the unit before
removing your Travel Mug.
NOTE: There will be slightly less coffee in your
Travel Mug than the amount of water added as the
grounds absorb some of the liquid.
5. When you remove the Travel Mug from the Mug
Rest, be careful not to tip it over as hot liquid will
spill out.
CAUTION: Be careful when opening the Reservoir Cover after brewing as this area is hot
and steamy. Use the Lift Tab located on the side of the Coffeemaker Reservoir Cover.
6. You can also brew hot water for beverages such as tea, hot chocolate and soups. Be
sure the Filter and Filter Basket have been washed in hot, sudsy water and rinsed well.
Replace the Filter and Basket and repeat the brewing process to brew hot water into the
Travel Mug.
7. The Travel Mug may also be used for carrying cold beverages.
CLEANING
1. Be sure the Coffeemaker is OFF and has cooled. Clean the Filter Basket, Permanent
Filter, Travel Mug and Lid in the Dishwasher—top rack only—or in hot, sudsy water.
2. Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth and dry. Do not use abrasive soaps or
scouring pads. Never immerse the Coffeemaker in water or place in a dishwasher.

3. Parts washed in a dishwasher may appear to
fade. To restore color, polish with a soft, dry cloth.
4. To clean inside the Reservoir Cover, unsnap the
Water Spreader and wipe the surfaces with a damp
cloth. (Figure D)
5. After cleaning, press the Water Spreader back
against the Cover and snap it into place.
CLEANING MINERAL DEPOSITS
1. Clean your Coffeemaker approximately once every
3 months to flush out mineral deposits. If you live in
a hard water area, you may have to clean the Coffeemaker more frequently. It is time to
clean the unit if it shuts off before all the water has pumped through the system.
2. During cleaning, more steaming may occur than when brewing coffee. Pour 8 oz. (237 ml)
of white vinegar into the Water Reservoir and fill to the Max Fill Line with tap water. Place
a 16 oz. (473 ml) (or slightly larger) container on the Mug Rest.
3. Turn the Coffeemaker on and let the cleaning solution brew through. Fill the reservoir
with cold water to the Max Fill Line and brew the plain water through to flush out any
remaining solution.
4. Let the cleaning solution brew into the container until the Coffeemaker turns off.
Repeat the process using a new solution; do not reuse the first solution. Then repeat
once more with only cold water to remove any remaining vinegar taste. Wash and dry
the Permanent Filter and Filter Basket.
