Tostartthevehicle,placetheForward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRALpositionandturnthekeytotheSTART
position,andholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Activatethechoke(14)asnecessary.Iftheenginedoesnotstartafter
10-15seconds,releasethekeyandrepeattheprocedure.Oncetheenginestarts,releasethekeyanditwillreturnto
theONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.TheenginewillcontinuetoidleuntilthekeyisturnedtotheOFF
position.SeefollowingWARNING,CAUTION,andNOTE.
WARNING
•Movingparts!Keepclearoftheenginecompartmentwhiletheengineisrunning.

KEYSWITCH–DIESELVEHICLES
Thekeyswitch(7)ismountedontheinstrumentpaneltotherightofthesteeringcolumn(Figure7).Ithasfour
positions:PREHEAT,OFF ,ON,andSTART .
UsethePREHEATfeatureifthetemperaturefallsbelow23°F(–5°C).DonotholdthekeyinthePREHEATposition
longerthan20seconds.T opreheattheglowplugsincoldweather,turnthekeytothePREHEATposition,andholdit
therefor10-15seconds.ThenturnthekeytotheSTARTposition,andholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Iftheengine
doesnotstartafter10-15seconds,turnthekeytotheOFFpositionandrepeattheprocedure.Oncetheenginestarts,
releasethekeyanditwillreturntotheONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.Theenginewillcontinuetoidleuntil
thekeyisturnedtotheOFFposition.SeepreviousWARNING,CAUTION,andNOTE.
FORWARD/REVERSECONTROL
TheForward/Reversehandle(6)islocatedontherightsideoftheinstrumentpanel(Figure6andFigure7).The

Theacceleratorpedal(1)isthepedalfarthesttotheright(Figure6andFigure7).
WiththeenginerunningandtheForward/ReversehandleintheFORWARDorREVERSEposition,vehiclespeed
willincreaseastheacceleratorpedalispressed.Whentheacceleratorpedalisreleased,itwillreturntotheoriginal

î‚¿rstapplypressuretothebrakepedal,thenî‚¿rmlypresstheparkbrakepedaluntilitlatchesintoplace.Todisengage
