1. INTRODUCTION
The Testo 171, 175 & 177 series of data loggers are
precision instruments designed to measure and record
various parameters including temperature / relative humidity.
Parameters measured are dependant upon model. The
following short form instruction manual covers the basic
operational aspects of the above instruments, for a full instruction manual please contact us.
2. CHOOSING THE LOCATION FOR YOUR INSTRUMENT (IMPORTANT PLEASE READ)
For ambient temperature / relative humidity models the instrument should be sited at a location that is
typical of the ambient conditions and is not affected by any external temperature / humidity sources.
Avoid placing the instrument in or near the following locations:- . Bright sunlight, Air conditioning
inlets & outlets, radiators, computers / monitors or other office equipment (that may give off heat), damp
corners, by fans or sinks and any draughts in general. Also avoid handling the instrument as this may
also affect its readings.
THE INSTRUMENT SHOULD BE KEPT DRY AT ALL TIMES.
For ambient condition monitor logger models, the instrument will take approximately 30min to 1 hour to
acclimatise.
3. LOGGER IDENTIFICATION (IMPORTANT PLEASE READ)
When returning your rental logger please ensure you keep record of where the loggers have been placed.
BSRIA Instrument Solutions rental instruments are identified by two sets of numbers, a group code and a
unique six digit ID e.g. 200123 it is recommended that you use this 6 digit ID code to identify the
instruments location.
Please do not affix any other labels to our instruments.
4. CONFIGURING THE INSTRUMENT
Sections 5 & 6 deal with the various set up options i.e. starting modes, Stopping modes, logging intervals
etc available. These configurations can only be changed using the optional software. BSRIA Instrument

logging interval a note stating this will be enclosed with the instrument/s. It is the responsibility of the hirer
to ensure that the correct starting procedure is followed. BSRIA Instrument Solutions accept no liability for
loggers that have been incorrectly started.
5. STARTING THE LOGGER
The instrument can be configured, using SOFTWARE, to start recording by either of the following ways,
DATE/TIME, KEYPAD (175 / 177 models only), MAGNET (171 models only)
For 175/177 logger models ONCE STARTED REC” or RECORD” is shown on its LC display.
For 171 logger models IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING the instrument will beep 3 times. Once

loggers recording state are evident unless connected to a PC. This beep is very quiet therefore
it is recommended that the user starts the logger in a quiet environment.
DATE/TIME START MODE:- Using software, a start time & Date can be set. Once programmed with this
start mode the logger will start automatically, no further action is required. REC or RECORD is shown on
175/177 models ONCE recording.
KEYPAD START MODE*:- For 177 & 175 loggers (ONLY) the instrument may be configured through
software to start recording using its keypad. Where the instrument has been configured this way TO
START the logger PRESS & HOLD the “GO” button for approx’ 3 - 5 sec’s until REC or RECORD
is displayed.
MAGNETIC START MODE*:- For 171 loggers (ONLY) the instrument may be configured through
software to start recording using a magnet. Magnets can be supplied free of charge on request. Once
configured this way the user simply has to hold the magnet over the TESTO logo located on the
instruments front. If successful the instrument will beep 3 times. No other indications of the loggers
recording state are evident unless connected to a PC.
6. STOPPING THE LOGGER
The logger can be configured (using software) to stop by either of the following ways, UNTIL MEMORY IS
FULL, NUMBER OF LOGS, WRAP AROUND MEMORY, DATE / TIME.
