Aboutdepthofeldandsensorsize

Thedepthofelddependsonthelensaperture,thesizeoftheimagesensorandthedistancetothescene.Thelowerthef-number

andlargerthesensor,theshallowerdepthofeld.Duetothelargesensor,thedepthofeldismoreshallowinthisparticular

productthanintraditionalsurveillancecameras.Depthofeldbecomesshallowerindarkconditions,duetothefactthattheiris

opensuptoprovideenoughlighttothesensor.

Aboutfocusandlightsensitivity

Thefocuspointisaffectedbytheaperture(f-stop)ofthelens.Thelowerthef-stopvalue,themorelightreachestheimagesensor.

Thesmallertheaperture,thedeeperdepthofeldwhichmayleadtoanunwantedabsolutefocuspoint.Duringlowlightconditions,

whentheapertureisaslargeaspossible,thedepthofelddecreasesandtheimagemaythereforeappearunfocused.

Axisdevicessendtheinitiallysetpasswordincleartextoverthenetwork.Toprotectyourdeviceaftertherstlogin,set

upasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionandthenchangethepassword.

Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforthedataandservices.Axisdevicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyastheymaybe

usedinvarioustypesofinstallations.Toprotectyourdatawerecommendthatyou:

•Changethedefaultpasswordthatcomeswitheachdevice.

•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablycreatedbyapasswordgenerator.

•Don’texposethepassword.

•Changethepasswordatarecurringinterval,atleastonceayear.

Theremotefocusandzoomfunctionalityallowsyoutomakefocusandzoomadjustmentstoyourcamerafromacomputer.Itisa

convenientwaytoensurethatthescene’sfocus,viewingangleandresolutionareoptimizedwithouthavingtovisitthecamera’s

installationlocation.

•Increaseshutterspeedandgain.GotoSettings>Image>ExposureandsetMaxshuttertoalowervalue,andMaxgain

toahighervalue.

Ifyouarestillexperiencingmotionblur,youcantryoneofthefollowing:

•Increasethelightlevelinthescene.

•Mountthecamerasothatobjectsmovetowarditorawayfromitratherthansideways.

HowtobenetfromIRlightinlow-lightconditionsusingnightmode

Yourcamerausesvisiblelighttodelivercolorimagesduringtheday.Aslightdiminishes,youcansetthecameratoautomatically

shifttonightmode.Innightmodethecamerausesbothvisiblelightandnear-infraredlighttodeliverblack-and-whiteimages.

Sincethecamerausesmoreoftheavailablelightitcandeliverbrighter,moredetailed,images.

1.GotoSettings>Image>Dayandnight,andmakesurethattheIRcutlterissettoAuto.

Howtoselectexposuremode

Therearedifferentexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsaperture,shutterspeed,andgaintoimproveimagequalityfor

specicsurveillancescenes.GotoSettings>Image>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:

•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.

•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallighting,forexampleuorescentlighting,selectFlicker-free.

Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.

•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand

sunduringdaytime,selectFlicker-reduced.

Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.

•Tolockthecurrentexposuresettings,selectHoldcurrent.

Howtomaximizedetailsinanimage

Important

Ifyoumaximizedetailsinanimage,bitrateincreasesandmightleadtoreducedframerate.

•Makesuretoselectcapturemodethathasthehighestresolution.

•Setcompressionaslowaspossible.

•SelectMJPEGstreaming.

•TurnofftheZipstreamfunctionality.

HowtostabilizeashakyimagewithElectronicImageStabilization(EIS)

EIScanbeusedinenvironmentswheretheproductismountedinanexposedlocationandsubjecttovibrations,forexample,wind

orpassingtrafc.TurnonEIStogetasmootherandsteadierimagewithoutblur.

EISalsoreducesthelesizeofthecompressedimageandlowersthebitrateofthevideostream.

WhenEISisturnedontheimageiscroppedslightly,loweringthemaximumresolution.

Barreldistortionisaphenomenonwherestraightlinesappearincreasinglybentclosertotheedgesoftheframe.Awideeldofview

willoftencreatebarreldistortioninanimage.Barreldistortioncorrectionwillcompensateforthisdistortion.

Barreldistortioncorrectionaffectstheimageresolutionandeldofview.

2.TurnonBarreldistortioncorrection(BDC).

3.Setthelevelofcorrectionthatgivesyouthebestimage.

Howtomonitorlongandnarrowareas

Usecorridorformattobetterutilizethefulleldofviewinalongandnarrowarea,forexampleastaircase,hallway,road,ortunnel.

1.Dependingonyourproduct,turnthecameraorthe3-axislensinthecamera90°or270°.

2.Ifyourproductdoesn’trotatetheviewautomatically,logintotheproduct’swebpageandgotoSettings>Stream>

Orientation.Rotatetheview90°or270°.

Howtoenhancefacialrecognition

Tobetterrecognizethefaceofapersonpassingbythecamera,youcansettheoptimalpixelresolutionwiththecamera’spixel

counter.

2.Adjustthesizeandplacementoftherectangleinthecamera’sliveviewaroundtheareaofinterest,forexamplewhere

therectangle.

Oneoptionistousethepixelcounterinyourcameratosettheoptimalpixelresolution:

1.GotoSettings>System>Orientationandclick

2.Adjustthesizeandplacementoftherectangleinthecamera’sliveviewaroundtheareaofinterest,forexample

wherethelicenseplatesofpassingcarsareexpectedtoappear.Youcanthenseethenumberofpixelsrepresentedby

thesidesoftherectangle.

Youcanuseanobjectofaknownsizeintheviewasareferencetodecidehowmuchresolutionisneededforrecognition.

Togetthebestpossibleimagefortrafcsurveillance,usetheAXISTrafcWizardincombinationwiththeTrafcoverviewscene

2.Starttheapplicationifitisnotalreadyrunning.

3.Tosetuptheapplication,clickOpen.

Aviewareaisacroppedpartofthefullview.Youcanstreamandstoreviewareasinsteadofthefullviewtominimizebandwidth

andstorageneeds.IfyouenablePTZforaviewarea,youcanpan,tiltandzoomwithinit.Byusingviewareasyoucanremoveparts

ofthefullview,forexample,thesky.

Whenyousetupaviewarea,werecommendyoutosetthevideostreamresolutiontothesamesizeasorsmallerthantheviewarea

size.Ifyousetthevideostreamresolutionlargerthantheviewareasizeitimpliesdigitallyscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture,

whichrequiresmorebandwidthwithoutaddingimageinformation.

Dynamicrangeisthedifferenceinlightlevelsinanimage.Insomecasesthedifferencebetweenthedarkestandthebrightest

areascanbesignicant.Theresultisoftenanimagewhereeitherthedarkorthebrightareasarevisible.Widedynamicrange

(WDR)makesbothdarkandbrightareasoftheimagevisible.

Howtochoosevideocompressionformat

Decidewhichcompressionmethodtousebasedonyourviewingrequirements,andonthepropertiesofyournetwork.The

availableoptionsare:

MotionJPEG

MotionJPEGorMJPEGisadigitalvideosequencethatismadeupofaseriesofindividualJPEGimages.Theseimagesarethen

displayedandupdatedataratesufcienttocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.Fortheviewertoperceivemotion

videotheratemustbeatleast16imageframespersecond.Fullmotionvideoisperceivedat30(NTSC)or25(PAL)framespersecond.

TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage

containedinthestream.

H.264orMPEG-4Part10/AVC

Note

H.264isalicensedtechnology.TheAxisproductincludesoneH.264viewingclientlicense.Installingadditionalunlicensed

copiesoftheclientisprohibited.Topurchaseadditionallicenses,contactyourAxisreseller.

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedtotheMotion

JPEGformatandbyasmuchas50%comparedtotheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace

arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,highervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

1.GotoSettings>System>Eventstosetupanactionrule.Theactionruledeneswhenthecamerawillperformcertain

actions.Actionrulescanbesetupasscheduled,recurring,orforexample,triggeredbymotiondetection.

2.SelectwhatTriggermustbemettotriggertheaction.Ifyouspecifymorethanonetriggerfortheactionrule,all

ofthemmustbemettotriggertheaction.

3.SelectwhichActionthecamerashouldperformwhentheconditionsaremet.

Note

Ifyoumakechangestoanactiveactionrule,theactionruleneedstoberestartedforthechangestotakeeffect.

Howtorecordvideowhenthecameradetectsmotion

ThisexampleexplainshowtosetupthecameratostartrecordingtotheSDcardvesecondsbeforeitdetectsmotionandto

MakesuretheAXISVideoMotionDetectionapplicationisrunning:
