touseaspaorhottub,theyshouldmakesure
thewatertemperatureisbelow100°F(38°C)

4. Thewatertemperatureshouldalwaysbechecked
withanaccuratethermometerbeforeenteringa
spaorhottub.Temperaturecontrolsmayvaryby
asmuchas1F°(1°C).
5. Personswithamedicalhistoryofheartdisease,
diabetes,circulatoryorbloodpressureproblems
shouldconsulttheirphysicianbeforeusingahot
tuborspa.
6. Personstakinganymedicationwhichinduces
drowsiness(e.g.,tranquilizers,antihistamines,or
anticoagulants)shouldnotusespasorhottubs.
7. Prolongedimmersioninhotwatercaninduce
hyperthermia.
Hyperthermiaoccurswhentheinternalbody
temperaturereachesalevelseveraldegreesabovethe
normalbodytemperatureof98.6°F(37°C).Symptoms
includedizziness,fainting,drowsiness,lethargy,andan
increaseintheinternalbodytemperature.Theeffectsof
hyperthermiainclude:
• Lackofawarenessofimpendinghazard
• Failuretoperceiveheat
• Failuretorecognizeneedtoleavespa
• Physicalinabilitytoleavespa
• Fetaldamageinpregnantwomen
• Unconsciousnessresultinginadangerof
drowning
Itisimportanttonotethataheatpumpwillnot
heatapoolasfastasalargegasorelectricpoolheater.
Ifthepoolwaterisallowedtocoolsignificantly,itmay
takeseveraldaystoreturntothedesiredswimming
temperature.Forweekenduse,itismore economical
tomaintainthepoolwatertemperatureatornearyour
desiredswimmingtemperature.Ifyoudonotplanto
useyourpoolforaprolongedperiod,thenyoumight
choosetoturntheheatpumpcompletelyoffordecrease
thetemperaturesettingofthecontrolseveraldegreesto
minimizeenergyconsumption.
Zodiacoffersthefollowingrecommendationsto
helpconserveenergyandminimizethecostofoperating
yourheatpumpwithoutsacrificingcomfort.
1. TheAmericanRedCrossrecommendsamaximum
watertemperatureof78°F(25°C).Useanaccurate
poolthermometer.Adifferenceof4°F(2°C),
between78°Fand82°F(26°Cand28°C),will
signicantlyincreaseenergyconsumption.
2. Carefullymonitorthewatertemperatureofyour
poolinthesummertime.Youcanreduceheat
pumpusageduetowarmerairtemperatures.
3. Duringthewinterorwhenonvacationforlonger
thanaweek,turnofftheheatpump.
4. Findthepropersettingontheheatpump
temperaturecontrolandusetheSetPointLockout
orlockthecoverontheheatpumpcontrollerto
discouragefurtheradjustments.
5. Setthepumptimeclocktostartthepumpno
earlierthan6:00AMduringthepoolheating
season.Thisisthetimewhennightlyheatloss
balances.
6. Wherepossible,shelterthepoolfromprevailing
windswithwell-trimmedhedgesorother
landscaping,cabanas,orfencing.
7. Alwaysuseapoolcoverwhenpractical.Besides
providingavaluablesafetyfeature,apoolcover
willreduceheatloss,conservechemicals,and
reducetheloadonltersystems.

installer.Shippingcostsarenotincludedinthewarranty
coverage.
Thewarrantydoesnotcoverdamagecausedby
improperassembly,installation,operation,winterizing,
fieldmodification,orfailuretoearthbondand
properlygroundtheunit.Anychangestotheheat
pump,evaporator,heatexchanger,wiring,orimproper
installationmayvoidthewarranty.
