OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Note: Clear illustrations of the controls of this machine are shown on the pages following this section of
the manual.
Radio Remote Basket
Radio Remote Startup
To activate the radio remote control system
:
Switch the key switch next to the START button on the transmitter to the ‘O’ position. Ensure that the
battery is in its housing and has enough charge. Check that the STOP button has not been pressed
and that none of the joysticks are activated (out of neutral). Turn the Key switch to the ‘I’ position and
press and hold the START button, releasing on when the green LED starts to flash.
NOTE: Check that the green LED on the turret electrical junction box stating ‘REMOTE
CONTROL ACTIVE’ is ON
.
NOTE: The radio remote transmitter will only switch on if there is enough charge in the battery
if all joysticks are inactive.
The remote control system is now ready to operate. Check that all machine functions correspond to the
transmitter functions.
Boom Controls
To enable boom controls, the deadman joystick, located at the centre of the transmitter, must be
moved and held either to the left or to the right as indicated.
Once the deadman has been activated, the EWP functions; bottom boom lift, top boom lift, tele boom
extension and slew (not necessarily in that order), may be operated by pushing down on the
respective joystick and moving it to the desired function.
NOTE: EWP FUNCTIONS WILL NOT
OPERATE UNLESS THE DEADMAN JOYSTICK IS OPERATED
PRIOR TO A FUNCTION JOYSTICK BEING OPERATED.
For precise operation of EWP functions, move the FAST/SLOW switch to the SLOW position to
reduce the work platform function speeds.
Hydraulic Power Tools (If fitted)
To operate the hydraulic power tools open the ball valve (ON) located on the base control cover prior
to entering the basket.
With the DC PUMP/POWER TOOLS switch on the transmitter in the neutral position, connect the
power tools hoses to the quick release couplings located outside the basket.
Once the tools are connected, move the DC PUMP/POWER TOOLS switch on the transmitter to the
POWER TOOLS position to allow the flow of hydraulic oil to the power tool.
Adjust the speed of the tools using the needle valve, which is located near the quick release
couplings outside the basket.

Emergency Stop
To immediately stop the machine, press the STOP button located next to the ENGINE START/STOP
button on the transmitter. This automatically powers down the transmitter.
To operate machine again, twist the STOP button in the direction as indicated and ensure that the
button springs outwards. Repeat the remote startup procedure as above to activate the remote
control system
Engine Stop/Start
If work is being carried out in a particular position and the booms do not need to be moved, for a
period of time, the engine may be stopped by pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button. When
required, the engine may be started again by pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button again.
Emergency DC Pump (GROUND transmitter only)
If engine power is lost, the emergency pump may be used to operate the machine. To operate a boom
function using the emergency pump, move and hold the deadman joystick in the direction as indicated.
At the same time engage the desired function joystick in the direction required and switch and hold the
DC PUMP/POWER TOOLS switch to the DC PUMP position.

Base Controls
NOTE: THE CONTROLS LOCATED ON THE BASE OF THE MACHINE, EXCLUDING THE BASKET
TRIM CONTROLLER, ARE FOR EMERGENCY USE ONLY.
WARNING: THERE IS TO BE NO PERSON IN THE BASKET WHEN THE BASKET IS BEING
LEVELLED USING THE BASKET TRIM FUNCTION. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING MAY
RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY.
To operate the base controls, located at the base of the machine, the control selector switch located
on the electrical enclosure on the base, must be switched to the base controls position.
To operate a function, push the deadman lever, located at the left hand end of the base controls, in
the direction indicated on the sign and then move any of the EWP functions; bottom boom lift, top
boom lift, tele boom extension, slew, and basket trim, to achieve the desired motion.
Emergency Controls and Emergency Basket Retrieval
The Nifty Lift RKT range of Elevating Work Platforms are equipped with different power sources which
may be used to lower the basket and stow the machine in the event of vehicle engine break down.
1: Accumulator (If fitted)
If engine power is lost and cannot be regained, the booms may be brought to the stowed position, or the
basket lowered to the ground, using the reserve of hydraulic fluid in the accumulator. In this situation,
work platform controls may be operated, from either the basket or the base, in the same manner as
when the engine is running. The accumulator, located on the vehicle, is kept charged (i.e. pressurised),
while the vehicle engine is running, during normal operation of the work platform. When charged, it holds
a volume of hydraulic oil, under pressure, adequate to stow the tower. In addition to stowing the tower,
there may be enough oil left to raise the stabiliser legs. This depends on the initial position from which
the booms are stowed.
2: Emergency DC Pump (If fitted)
If engine power is lost, the emergency pump may be used to operate the machine. To operate a boom
function using the emergency pump, move the control lever on the control valve, in the base, that
corresponds to the function and direction required. Then push the deadman lever to the deadman
position and also depress the emergency pump button, located above the deadman lever,
simultaneously.
To operate the stabiliser legs, using the emergency pump, move the stabiliser control lever, on the
control valve, that corresponds to the function and direction required and then push the emergency
pump button.
3: Emergency Hand Pump (If fitted)
If engine power is lost and the emergency pump will not operate, the emergency hand pump may be
used to operate the machine.
Ensure that the lever on the side of the hand pump itself is in the “ENGAGE” position, i.e. pointing
towards the base structure.
Place the hand pump handle, located on the pedestal, into the socket on the pumping lever at the
end of the hand pump.
Move, and hold, the lever corresponding to the desired function and then pump the hand pump using
the extension handle, located on the pedestal.

Stabiliser Controls
NOTE: THE STABILISER LEGS WILL NOT OPERATE UNLESS THE TOP BOOM OF THE WORK
PLATFORM IS STOWED.
WARNING: DEFLATE AIRBAG SUSPENSION (IF FITTED) AND ENGAGE SPRING LOCKOUTS (IF
FITTED) BEFORE ENGAGING STABILISERS.
WARNING: THE WHEELS OF THE VEHICLE MUST BE RAISED CLEAR OF THE GROUND PRIOR
TO OPERATING THE BOOMS. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN THE MACHINE BEING
UNSTABLE, AND DANGEROUS, WHEN THE BOOMS ARE RAISED OR EXTENDED.
To operate the stab legs depress the deadman button, located next to the stabiliser direction control
valve, and, at the same time, push or pull the lever on the stabiliser control valve in the direction
corresponding to the desired motion.
WARNING: ENSURE THAT ALL GREEN L.E.DS (IF FITTED) ON THE ELECTRICAL JUNCTION BOX
NEXT TO THE STABILISER CONTROL VALVE ARE ON BEFORE OPERATING THE WORK
PLATFORM.
Spring Lockout Controls (If fitted)
NOTE: THE SPRING LOCKOUTS WILL NOT OPERATE UNLESS THE TOP BOOM OF THE WORK
PLATFORM IS STOWED.
WARNING: DEFLATE AIRBAG SUSPENSION (IF FITTED) BEFORE ENGAGING SPRING
LOCKOUTS.
To operate the spring lockouts depress the deadman button, located next to the stabiliser direction
control valve, and, at the same time, push or pull the lever on the spring lockouts control valve in the
direction corresponding to the desired motion.
WARNING: WHEN WORK IS COMPLETED, ENSURE THAT ALL STABILISERS AND SPRING
LOCKOUTS ARE IN THE STOWED POSITION. INFLATE AIR BAG SUSPENSION (IF FITTED).
Emergency Stops
In the event of imminent danger, loss of EWP control or a serious oil leak, depress one of the emergency
stop buttons. There are emergency stops located on both of the rear stabiliser legs and another one on
the base control cover of the work platform. Activating an emergency stop will divert all the flow from the
PTO pump back to the hydraulic reservoir and isolate all available flow from the accumulator (if fitted).
Once safe to do so, the emergency stop may be reset by twisting the button in the direction indicated on
it.
