Secondary Handrail Guidelines and Installation

Prior to construction, check with your local regulatory agency

for special code requirements in your area.

Start with an Inside Corner piece when applicable.

Guidelines:

• Theheightofthesecondaryhandrailmustbeinstalledbetween

 34”and38”abovethesurface,regardlessoftheheightoftheguard.

• Werecommendthathandrailsbedrytpriortonalinstallationto

 eliminatecuttingandfasteningerrors.

• IMPORTANT:Thesecondaryhandrailmustbeattachedtoastructural

 support.Wheninstallingmountingbracketsonpostsleeves,ensure

 thehardwareattachestothestructuralsupport.

• Formaximumstrength,bracketsshouldbeusedateverypostand

 everyjoint,orascloselyaspossibletothejoint.

• Anadhesivemaybeappliedtofurtherreinforceconstruction.

• Handrailsmustbesupportedevery6’on-centerbyamountingbracket.

Handrail with Aluminum Insert

Step 1: Drythandrailstodetermineproperlengthspriorto

cuttingrails.

Step 2: Measureandcutrailstoproperlengthsforallruns.

Step 3: Installtohandrailcomponent,followinginstructionsforthe

components.

Step 3:Alignthe90°insidecornersothatitiscenteredevenlyon

thebracket,ensureitislevel,andclampintoplace.Drill3/16”

pilotholesandsecurewith1”screwsprovided.

Step 4:Slidealuminumjoinersintoeachsideofcorner.Slidejoin-

ersintohandrailsandfollowinstructionsfor“AluminumJoiner

Kit.”

Aluminum Bracket (Line Post Mounting Bracket)

Step 1:Measure2”lessthanthehandrailheighttodetermine

bracketposition.Marksurface.

Step 2:Alignthetopofthebracketmountingplatewiththemark

madeinStep1.Drill5/32”pilotholesandattachtothedesired

surfaceusingthe1-1/2”screwsprovided.

Step 3:Clamphandrailtobracketatappropriatelocationto

secureinplace.

Step 4:Drill3/16”pilotholesandattachhandrailusingthe1”

screwsprovided.

AluminumBracket.ai

Adjustable Joiner

Step 1:Measuretheangleneeded.Adjointhetwojoinerhalves

togetherbyinsertingthebolt.Placethejoinerhalvesatthe

desiredangle,andtightenbolttoset.

Step 2:Cuthandrailsat½thedesiredangle.Slidehandrailsonto

adjustablejoiner.

Step 3:Drill3/16”pilotholesandfastenhandrailstogetherusing

3/4”screws.

Aluminum Joiner Kit

Step 1:Usealuminumjoinertofastenhandrailcomponentsat

straightjoints.

Step 2:Slidejoineranequaldistanceintobothcomponents.

Drill3/16”pilotholesandfastenusing3/4”screwsprovided.

Note: All joiners should be supported by an aluminum bracket

as closely as possible to the joint.

Stair Elbows

Step 1:Attachaluminumbrackettopost,followinginstructions

under“AluminumBracket”.

Step 2:Chooseproperdegreeofstairelbow.Slidealuminum

joinersintoeachsideofthestairelbow.Slidejoinersinto

handrails,andfollowinstructionsfor“AluminumJoinerKit”.

Step 3:Attachelbowtobracket,drilling3/16”pilotholesand

securingwiththe1”screwsprovided.

Handicap Loop

Step 1:Positionhandicaploopindesiredlocation.Markandcut

loopasnecessary.

Step 2:Attachhandicaplooptohandrailsystemusingaluminum

joiner(forlevelinstallation)oradjustablejoiner(forangled

installation).

Step 3:Attachtopandbottomaluminumbracketstosurfaceat

desiredlocations,followinginstructionsunder“Aluminum

Bracket”.

Step 4:Attachthehandicaplooptothealuminumbracketsby

drilling3/16”pilotholesandsecuringwiththe1”screws

provided.

Step 5:Attachendcaptounnishedendofloop.

Note: The alternate installation method uses the 90° post return

for the lower portion of the handicap loop, terminating into the

end post.

postreturnusing1-1/2”screwsprovided.

3/4”screwsprovided.

Step 1:Attachtwoaluminumbracketstoadjacentcornersofpost,

followinginstructionsfrom“AluminumBracket”.

Step 2:Drytthetwohandrailstobejoined.Thehandrailsshould

extendfarenoughtoallowfornalcutting.Placeoutsidecorner

inlinewitheachhandrail.Markhandrailsandcutasnecessary.

Step 3:Slidealuminumjoinersintobothsidesofoutsidecorner.

Slidejoinersintohandrails,andfollowinstructionsfor“Aluminum

JoinerKit”.

Step 4:Attachhandrailstobrackets,followinginstructionsfrom

“HandrailwithAluminumInsert”.

joiner.

holesandsecuringwith3/4”screwsprovided.
