Plug the power cord into the power supply of the 1:3 DVD/CD Auto
Publisher LS, also located on the rear side (make sure the red switch
is set at 115 VAC). Plug into a standard 115 VAC outlet. Use of a
common plug strip with AC ltering, as is common with most high-
end computers, is recommended for the 1:3 DVD/CD Auto Publisher

Attaching the Hardware
Connect the appropriate end of the included USB cable to a 1.
spare USB port on your computer, and the opposite end to your
1:3 DVD/CD Auto Publisher LS.
Note: It is recommended that the 1:3 DVD/CD Auto Publisher LS
is connected directly to one of the computer’s USB ports, and not
through an external USB hub.
Turn on the 1:3 DVD/CD Auto Publisher LS. Windows will 2.
display information about the new hardware that it detects, and
may take a few moments to nish setting up support for the
new hardware.
Note: You may be prompted to locate the driver installation files for
the USB-Serial device (PL-2303). If so, click the “Browse...” button
and navigate to the folder where these files were copied.
The Comm Port setting must be on COM 3. To check this, 3.
click on Start, then right-click on My Computer. From
the context menu, choose Manage to open the Computer
Management window. From the left-hand pane, choose Device
Manager.

select COM 3.
You may get a message saying that the port is in use; select Yes 7.
to continue. Press the OK button to accept, and OK again to
return to the Device Manager.
Open “My Computer” to verify that each recorder in the 1:3 8.
DVD/CD Auto Publisher LS is displayed. Each drive should be
labeled “DVD-RAM Drive,” “DVD-RW Drive,” or a similar
description.
If any recorders are missing, rst make sure the recorder
trays are all empty, and then power off the 1:3 DVD/CD
Auto Publisher LS. Repeat steps 6-7 as necessary until the
appropriate number of recorders are listed in “My Computer.”
www.aleratec.com
7
With the “My Computer” window still open, right-click each 9.
of the recording drives in turn, and select “Eject.” This allows
you to verify the order of the drives as listed matches the order
from top to bottom on the 1:3 DVD/CD Auto Publisher LS. If
they do not match, see “Drive Association” below.
Your 1:3 DVD/CD Auto Publisher LS is now installed and
supported by Windows. Next, proceed to the drive association
section.

Conguration Wizard”
screen will appear
automatically.

8
Note: To change the order of drives on a previously installed
autoloader, click on the “Recorder” menu and select “Robotics.” On
the “Drives” tab of this dialog box, make the changes you desire using
the “Up” and “Down” arrow icons.
The next wizard screen allows you to match the order of the 3.
recording drives in the 1:3 DVD/CD Auto Publisher LS with
the drives as identied by Windows.
In the lower portion of the
window, click to highlight the
drive letter that represents the
topmost recorder in the 1:3
DVD/CD Auto Publisher LS,
and then click the “Up” arrow
icon to associate the drive with
the autoloader.
Repeat this step for the
remaining drives in the
autoloader, from top to bottom.
When done, click “Next” to proceed to the bin conguration.

Bin Configuration
You will be prompted 1.
next to choose a bin
conguration. This
changes the behavior of
the autoloader, in relation
to which bins are used for
input/output.
It is suggested that the default conguration option should be
used, unless you specically desire a different bin order for
picking up and dropping discs. By default, the autoloader will
pick up discs from bin 1, and place completed discs into bin 3.
When bin 1 is empty, the autoloader will (if desired) pick up
discs from bin 2, and place completed discs into bin 1.

Autoloader Alignment
Click on the “Calibration...” 1.
button to access the various
alignment parameters on your
1:3 DVD/CD Auto Publisher
LS. There should be no disc in
any of the recorders to start.
Note: To realign a previously installed autoloader, click on the
“Recorder” menu and select “Robotics.” On the “Tests” tab of this
dialog box, click the “Calibration...” button and proceed to the next
step.
Each of the alignment 2.
parameters can be selected from
the “Alignment Procedure”
drop-down box. Remember to
click “Accept” when you are
satised with each position,
before selecting the next
alignment parameter or clicking
“OK.”
First, select the “Angle of 3.
Robotic Arm” from the
“Alignment Procedure” drop-
down box. The top tray will be
ejected and the robotic arm will
move to the default position for
this alignment procedure.
www.aleratec.com
11
Use the “Right” and “Left” arrow icons to move the robotic 4.
arm clockwise and counterclockwise, respectively. Adjust this
position as close as possible to the center of the disc and click
“Accept”, then “OK.”
You will be prompted to save the alignment parameters to a 5.
conguration le. Type a name for this le in the “File name”
box and then click “Save.”
When Droppix asks if you would like to apply the settings as 6.
default, click “Yes.” The current alignment parameters will
then be stored in the autoloader.
Place a disc in the top recorders tray, then close the tray. 7.
Click on the “Calibration...” button to continue adjusting the
alignment parameters.
Use the “Angle of Robotic Arm” option once again to make 8.
any further necessary renements.
www.aleratec.com
12
Select the “Height of Robotic Arm” parameter and adjust with 9.
the “Up” and “Down” arrow buttons as necessary. The picker
head should be ush with the surface of the disc on the tray,
but should not press down so hard as to put undue pressure on
the tray. Click “Accept” when nished with this parameter, and
remove the disc from the recorder.
The alignment 10.
parameters for Number
1, 2, and 3 Spindles are
all performed with a
stack of 90 discs in each
bin, with the guide peg
resting in the center hole
of the stack of discs.
Use the “Right” and “Left” arrow
icons to move the robotic arm
clockwise and counterclockwise,
respectively, to reach the closest
position possible. Press “Accept”
when nished aligning each bin
position.
Number 4 Spindle is for rejected discs, and it is aligned in the 11.
same way as the previous step, albeit without any discs on the
spindle.

For the alignment parameter “Down Limit of Spindle,” there should 12.
not be any bin present in the “Number 3 Spindle” position. Press the
“Down” arrow button ten (10) times, during which time the arm will
move in major increments.
After the large increments, the distance moved down with each click
will be very minor, and the goal here is to have the bottom edge
of the vertically-moving picker head carrier even with or no more
than 1/16 inch (2 mm) above the bottom of the guide track that this
moves along (just above the pulley). Press “Accept” when done.
Select the “Short Tray” parameter and make sure it is set to “Yes” 13.
and “Automatic Turn Height” is set to “high”. Click on “Accept” to
accept your selection.
When satised with the alignment parameters, press “OK,” then 14.
repeat steps 5-6 to save and store the new alignment conguration.
Click “Finish” on the “Robot Conguration Wizard” screen, or
“OK” on the “Robotics” dialog.
Proceed to the “Testing the Autoloader” section to try out the new
alignment parameters.
Testing the Autoloader
To test the autoloader, place at least one disc into the primary input
bin. Then click the “Test the Robot” button and the autoloader will
determine the presence of a disc in the top drive and place it in the
reject spindle, if one is found.
The robotic arm will then proceed to pick up a disc in the input bin,
and place it on the top recorders tray. It will then pick up this disc
from the recorder tray, and drop it into the primary output bin.
Your 1:3 DVD/CD Auto Publisher LS is now installed, aligned, and
ready to use.
