management of the ControlSwitch (basic) elements and resources.

 System Architecture 
ControlSwitch (CS) is composed of mandatory elements, advanced (optional) elements, and 
communications resources. The elements and resources are software modules managed by the 
ControlSwitch Element Management System (EMS). For hardware configurations, refer to 
ControlSwitch Hardware Guidelines. 
This chapter provides information on the mandatory (basic) CS system architecture.  For details on 
system resources, see Resources. For the CS advanced elements, see the ControlSwitch Advanced 
Elements and Services User's Manual, section System Architecture. The following figure depicts the 
mandatory CS elements. 
 
 Element Management System (EMS). Enables the settings and the management of the CS 
system, using the EMS GUI.  
 Event Collector (EC). Collects, and stores call-related information from CCE, ICE, and SEE. The 
stored information is used (by CDRM) to generate billing information, produce reports, and 
analyze performance.  
 Call Detail Record Management (CDRM). The CDR Manager is the mediation subsystem 
between the Event Collectors and the external billing applications, generating call detailed 
record files. 
 Policy Element (PE). Provides the call routing functionality of the ControlSwitch. During a call, 
the PE is queried by the SEE for call treatment. The PE queries the appropriate database(s) to 
respond to the SEE with the relevant information. 
 Service Execution Element (SEE). Includes and controls the state machine of the CS, providing a 
flexible framework for service management. The SEE communicates with the PE, SSE, CCE, and 
ICE elements. ICE and CCE translate the IP and the PSTN VoIP messages to a generic call 
processing language that SEE uses for service execution. 
 SIGTRAN Signaling Element (SSE). SSE handles the ISUP and TCAP messages in the CS system by 
managing multiple M3UA ASP pairs, associated with multiple M3UA SGs (SGPs).

 Call Control Element (CCE). Provides a platform for the Call Control Elements (CCE), that are

created upon the creation of the media gateways. CCE is responsible for protocol processing,

mediation between signaling protocols such as MGCP, PRI, SS-7, and the CS's internal protocol,

and management of the system resources such as TGs, CICs, and gateways

 IP Control Element (ICE). Handles the VoIP protocols: SIP and H.323, in the CS system. Multiple

ICE elements can handle multiple instances of H.323 and SIP. There are three types of ICE

elements: H.323, SIP, and SIP-ISUP.

 Provisioning Guidelines 
Elements and Resources must be provisioned before setting up any session. This section provides 
guidelines for various system configuration options. 
After the elements and resources guidelines, the routing should be configured. For routing provisioning 
guidelines, refer to ControlSwitch Policies and Routing User's Manual, section Plan and Policies. 
4.1 SS7 Calls 
The list below shows the settings, required for setting up a basic SS7 session. Please note that the first 3 
steps are covered by the Dialogic support team, and are provided with the system's delivery, based on 
the customer's network definitions and topology. The customer's administration staff can continue the

Event Collectors (EC)

The Event Collectors (EC) element collects, and stores call-related information from CCE, ICE, and SEE.

The stored information is used (by CDRM) to generate billing information, produce reports, and analyze

performance.

ECs are deployed in pairs. Both are active, and both receive the call-related information from the

relevant elements simultaneously.

ECs can be added to the system in order to enhance scalability, in response to network growth. The

Event Controllers window allows users to manage the EC elements.

The Event Controllers window is divided into the following sections:

 Event Controllers Summary - (at the top of the window) Displays a list of ECs, and an array of

buttons used to manage them.

 Associated Call Control Elements - A list of Call Control Elements associated with the selected

EC, located at the bottom of the window.

5.1 Event Collectors Summary

The Event Collectors Summary allows the user to view and manage EC elements, using the buttons in

the Actions column.

Admin State

The administrative state of the EC. Possible values: LOCKED, UNLOCKED (default)

The default administrative state of a new EC is UNLOCKED. An UNLOCKED EC can be in service.

Op State

The operational state of the EC. Possible values: ENABLED, DISABLED (default)

The default operational state of a new EC is DISABLED. EMS updates the state to ENABLED

when it detects that the element is in operation.

→ To create a new EC:

4. Select Network Elements → Event Collectors.

5. Click on the Create button.

6. Enter the parameters, as depicted below.

 Name. The Event Collector's unique name.

 DNS Name. The DNS name of the EC (optional).

 Primary IP Address. The primary IP Address of the EC element.

 Secondary IP Address. The secondary IP Address of the EC element.

 Paired Event Collector. The paired EC, to be selected using the drop-down menu.

7. Click OK to save the entered values.

After an EC element is created, call control elements (CCP or ICE) should be associated with the newly

created EC. Association can be performed only after these elements are created. The lower part of

Event Controllers Summary is used to manage the association.

Note:

Multiple ECs may run on the same hardware platform. If they are located on the same platform then they share the same DNS

Name, and IP Address.

Modifying EC Parameters

→ To modify the EC parameters:

1. Select Network Elements → Event Collectors.

2. Select the EC you want to modify.

3. If you want to modify the IP addresses, shut down the selected EC first.

4. Click on the Modify button.

5. Enter the parameters you want to modify, as depicted below.

 ID. A unique identifier (for internal use).

 Version. The element's software version (read only).

 Admin State. The administrative state of the EC element (read only).

 Op State. The operation state of the SEE. To modify the IP addresses the operational

state of the element should be DISABLED (read only).

 Control Status.

 Name. The Event Collector's unique name.

 DNS Name. The DNS name of EC (optional).

 Primary IP Address. The primary IP Address of the EC element.

 Secondary IP Address. The secondary IP Address of the EC element.
