Neverllthekettlebeyondthemaximumlevelindication.Ifthekettle
hasbeenoverlled,boilingwatermaybeejectedfromthespoutand
causescalding.
Donotopenthelidwhilethewaterisheatingup.Becarefulwhen
youopenthelidimmediatelyafterthewaterhasboiled:thesteam
thatcomesoutofthekettleisveryhot.
Donottouchthebodyofthekettleduringandsometimeafteruse,
asitgetsveryhot.Alwaysliftthekettlebyitshandle.
Alwaysmakesurethewaterinthekettleatleastcoversthebottom
ofthekettletopreventthekettlefromboilingdry.
Dependingonthehardnessofthewaterinyourarea,smallspots
mayappearontheheatingelementofyourkettlewhenyouuseit.
Thisphenomenonistheresultofscalebuild-upontheheating
elementandontheinsideofthekettleovertime.Theharderthe
water,thefasterscalebuildsup.Scalecanoccurindifferentcolours.
Althoughscaleisharmless,toomuchscalecaninuencethe
performanceofyourkettle.Descaleyourkettleregularlybyfollowing
theinstructionsgiveninchapter‘Descaling’.

Boil-dry protection
Thiskettleisequippedwithboil-dryprotection.Thisdeviceautomatically
switchesoffthekettleifitisaccidentallyswitchedonwhenthereisno
waterornotenoughwaterinit.Liftthekettlefromitsbaseandllitwith
watertoresetboil-dryprotection.Thekettleisnowreadyforuseagain.

ThisPhilipsappliancecomplieswithallstandardsregarding
electromagneticelds(EMF).Ifhandledproperlyandaccordingtothe
instructionsinthisusermanual,theapplianceissafetousebasedon
scienticevidenceavailabletoday.


Remove stickers, if any, from the base or the kettle.
2 Placethebaseonadry,stableandatsurface.
3 Usethecordwindertoadjustthelengthofthecord(Fig.2).
Turnthecordwinderclockwisetomakethecordshorteror
anticlockwisetomakeitlonger.
4 Rinse the kettle with water.
5 Fillthekettlewithwateruptothemaximumlevelandletitboil
once(seechapter‘Usingtheappliance’).
6 Pouroutthehotwaterandrinsethekettleoncemore.
Using the appliance

Removethelid(Fig.3).
Turnthelidanticlockwiseuntilthelineontopofthekettleisalignedwith
thelineonthelidthatindicatesthe‘open’position.
2 Fillthekettlewithwater(Fig.4).
Note: You can also ll the kettle through the spout.
3 Putthelidbackontothekettle(Fig.5).

Putthelidonthekettleandturnthelidclockwiseuntilthelineontopof
thekettleisalignedwiththelineonthelidthatindicates
the‘close’position.
4 Placethekettleonitsbaseandputthepluginthewallsocket.
Theapplianceisnowreadyforuse.
Boiling water
Toboilwater,youonlyhavetodoonething:
1 Presstheon/offbutton.(Fig.6)
Thelightringaroundtheon/offbuttonlightsupandthe100°C
lightstartstoashtoindicatethatthekettleisheatingupwaterto
boilingpoint(Fig.7).
Whilethewaterheatsup,thecurrenttemperatureisshownbythe
numberoflightsthatareon.The100°Clightcontinuesto
ash(Fig.8).
2 Thekettlebringsthewatertotheboil.
Whenthewaterboils,youhearanaudiblesignalandthekettle
switchesoffautomatically.
Thelightaroundtheon/offbuttongoesoffandthe100°Clight
staysonfor120secondstoletyouknowthewaterhasjust
boiled(Fig.9).
Note: You can stop the heating process at any time by pressing the on/off
button or removing the kettle from the base. If you remove the kettle from
the base when it is operating, all settings are lost.
Setting the water temperature
WiththeSETTEMPbuttononthekettle,youcanheatupthewaterto
differenttemperatures:100°C(boilingwater),80°C,60°Cor40°C.
1 Makesurethekettleisempty.Thenllitwithcoldwater.
Tomakesurethekettleaccuratelyheatsupthewatertotheset
temperature,llthekettlewithatleast0.5lwater.
2 PresstheSETTEMPbuttononeormoretimestosetthedesired
temperature(Fig.10).

Note: If you cannot set the desired temperature, the current temperature of
the water in the kettle is higher than the temperature you want to set. The
current temperature is shown by the number of lights that are on.
3 Presstheon/offbuttontoswitchontheappliance(Fig.6).
Note: If you do not press the on/off button within 10 seconds after setting
the temperature, the set temperature is lost.
Whilethewaterheatsup,thecurrenttemperatureisshownbythe
numberoflightsthatareonandthelightofthesettemperature
ashes.(Fig.11)
Whenthekettlehasreachedthesettemperature,youhearan
audiblesignal(onebeep)andthekettleswitchesoffautomatically.
Thelightringaroundtheon/offbuttongoesoff.
Thelightofthesettemperaturestaysonfor120secondstolet
youknowthewaterhasjustreachedthepresettemperature.
Youcanadjustthesettemperaturewhilethekettleisoperating.Thisis
onlypossibleifthetemperatureofthewaterisstillbelowthenewlyset
temperature.
Note: If you remove the kettle from the base, the set temperature is lost.
Keeping water warm
Youcanusethekeep-warmfunctiontokeepwaterwarmata
temperatureof100°,80°,60°Cor40°C.
Therearetwowaystokeepwaterwarm:atthecurrenttemperature,or
atatemperaturehigherthanthecurrenttemperature.
Onlyusethekeep-warmfunctionwhenthereisatleast0.5lwaterin
the kettle. If there is too little water in the kettle, the kettle may switch
offwithin30minutestoprotecttheheatingelement.

A Keeping water warm at the current temperature
1 PresstheKEEPWARMbutton(Fig.12).
Note: If the current temperature is lower than 60°C, you rst have to set the
temperature (see point B below).
B Keeping water warm at a higher temperature than the
current temperature
1 PresstheSETTEMPbuttononeormoretimestosetthedesired
temperature(seesection‘Settingthetemperature’).
2 PresstheKEEPWARMbutton(Fig.12).
3 Presstheon/offbutton.
ThelightringroundtheKEEPWARMbuttonandtheon/offbutton
goontoindicatethattheKEEPWARMfunctionis
activated(Fig.13).
2 Thekettlekeepsthewaterwarmfor30minutes.
Whenthekettleheatsupthewatertokeepitattheselected
temperature,thelightofthedesiredtemperatureashes.Whenthe
waterhasreachedtheselectedtemperature,thelightofthedesired
temperaturelightsupcontinuously.
After30minutes,youhearanaudiblesignalandthekettleswitches
offautomatically.
Note: You can always stop the keep-warm process at any time. To do so, press
the KEEP WARM button or the on/off button or remove the kettle from the
base.
Note: If you remove the kettle from the base, the set keep-warm temperature
is lost.
Note: If the selected keep-warm temperature is 100°C, the kettle keeps the
water at a temperature between 90°C and 100°C to avoid excessive steam
development. If the selected keep-warm temperature is 80°, 60° or 40°C, the
kettle keeps the water at a temperature between 5°C below and 5°C above
the selected temperature.

Cleaning and descaling
Alwaysunplugthebasebeforeyoucleanit
Alwaysremovethekettlefromthebasebeforeyoucleanthekettle.
Never immerse the kettle or its base in water.
Donotuseabrasivecleaningagents,scourersetc.tocleanthekettle.
Cleaning the kettle and the base
1 Cleantheoutsideofthekettleandthebasewithasoftcloth
moistenedwithwarmwaterandsomemildcleaningagent.
Donotletthemoistclothcomeintocontactwiththecord,theplugand
theconnectorofthebase.

Scaleisnotharmfultoyourhealthbutitmaygiveyourdrinkapowdery
taste.Theanti-scalelterpreventsscaleparticlesfromendingupinyour
drink.
CleantheTripleactionanti-scalelterregularlyinthefollowingway:
1 Taketheentirelteroutofthekettle(Fig.14).
2 Slidethebasketoffthelterandtakethestainlesssteelmeshout
of the basket.
3 Tocleanthemesh,squeezeandrotateitunderarunningtap.
4 Gentlycleanthelterwithasoftnylonbrush.
5 Putthemeshbackintothelterbasketandslidethebasketonto
thelteragain.Thenslidethelterbackintothekettle.
Note: You can also clean the lter in two other ways. Leave the lter in the
kettle when you descale the kettle (see section ‘Descaling the kettle’) or
remove it from the kettle and clean it in the dishwasher.

Descaling the kettle
Regulardescalingprolongsthelifeofthekettle.
Incaseofnormaluse(upto5timesaday),thefollowingdescaling
frequencyisrecommended:
Onceevery3monthsforsoftwaterareas(upto18dH).
Onceeverymonthforhardwaterareas(morethan18dH).
1 Fillthekettlewithwateruptothree-quartersofthemaximum
levelandbringthewatertotheboil.
2 Afterthekettlehasswitchedoff,addwhitevinegar(8%aceticacid)
tothemaximumlevel.
3 Leavethesolutioninthekettleovernight.
4 Emptythekettleandrinsetheinsidethoroughly.
5 Fillthekettlewithfreshwaterandboilthewater.
6 Emptythekettleandrinseitwithfreshwateragain.
Repeattheprocedureifthereisstillsomescaleinthekettle.
Youcanalsouseanappropriatedescaler.Inthatcase,followthe
instructionsonthepackageofthedescaler.
Storage
Tostorethecord,turnthecordwinderinthebottomofthebase
clockwise(Fig.15).
Replacement
YoucanbuyreplacementltersforyourkettlefromyourPhilipsdealer
oraPhilipsservicecentre.Thetablebelowindicateswhichltersare
suitableforyourelectrickettle.
