Clarication of the term “R-series” used in this document
When referring in this document to the term “R-series” means that the content is applicable for following Barc o products:
•R7
•R10
Clarication of the terms “LED sheet”, “LED product”, “LED screen” and “LED board” used in this
document
The certication / safety marks only cover the R-Series products with its contents described hereunder. Additional optional
parts are not part of the R-series product c ertications
An R-Series LED sheet is a thin sheet with a visible LE D area of 26 or 52 cm wide and maxim um 468 cm long. An LED sheet also
contains 1–2 termination box(es) and 1–2 connection box(es), depen ding on the w idth of the LED sheet. An LED s heet of 26 cm
wide has 1 of both termination and connection box; an LE D s heet of 52 cm wide has 2 of both termination and c onnection boxes.
Because of the variable length and width of a LED sheet, it can contain from 1 up to 24 LE D boards. Each LED board is approxi-
mately 26 cm wide and 39 cm long. A LED sheet can be up to 12 LED boa rds high (12 x 39 cm = 468 cm) an d up to two LED boards
wide (2 x 26 cm = 52 cm).
An R-Series product can consist of an R-Series LED sheet and one or two power supply units ( PSU s), depending on th e width:
One LED bo ard wide: one PSU (se e exam ple B, image 1-1)
Two LED boards wide: two PSUs (see exam ple C)
Because it is paper thin, multiple R-Series products linked toge
ther form an LED screen instead of a “wall” (See example A ).

1. Safety & Environmental Information
Keep am mable m aterials away from the installation (such as curtains). A lot of energy is transferred into heat. The installation
should be such that the amount of air ow required for safe operation of the equipment is n ot compromised. Proper ventilation must
be provided.
ESD and LE Ds:
LED components us ed in R -Series LE D sheets are E SD (Electro-Static D ischarge) sensitive. To p revent the pos sibility of des troying
LED components do not touch either in operation or while switched off.
Risk of electric shock / Risk of re:
To protect against risk of re caused by overloading of power c ables, each power source cable should be p rotected by a type D
circuit breaker r ated 16 A / 250 VAC (20 A / 250 VA C in the USA and C anada).
For the 200–240 VA C range up to three PSUs can be c onnected to one circuit at the sam e time. For the 100–130 VA C range up to
two P SUs can be connected to one circuit at the s ame time.
Disconnect device:
The socket outlets supp lying one or m ore R-Series products shall be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible, or a
readily accessible general disconnect device must be incorporated in the xed wiring.
Unplug / disconnect all mains input connections to remove all power from the R -Series products.
The disconnect device sh all simultaneously interrupt all poles of the AC mains supply, ex cept for the ea rthing conductor. This shall
be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.
This equipment M US T b e earthed:
In order to pro tect against r isk of e lectric shock, the installation should b e
properly grounded ac cording to local regulations. Defeating
the purpose of the gr ounding type plug will expose you to the risk of electric shock.
Power system:
It is recommended to use a TN-S power distribution system (a pow er distribution system with a separate neutral and grounding
conductor) in order to avoid large ground current loops due to voltage differences in the neutral conductor. The total electrical
installation should be protected by an appropriately rated disconnect switch, circuit breakers, over voltage protector and Ground Fault
Current Interrupters. The installation shall be done ac cording to the local electrical installation codes. In Europe s pecial attention
should be given to HD 60364, Harmon ization Document for electrical installation of buildings. In Germ any VDE 0100 should be
adhered to. In A meric a, special attention should b e given to the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70.
Data cables:
The data cables provided with this system have special properties for safety. They are not user serviceable. If the data cables are
damaged, replace them only with new ones. Never try to repair a data cab
le. Per requirements of the N ational Electrical Code® in
the USA , the length of a data cable must not exceed 100 m (328 feet). Avoid exposure of data c ables to accidental contact with
lightning or power conductors.
Only use data cables provided by Barco. The diameter of the cables provided b y B arco is chosen to t the co nnection box. Only
these cables c an guarantee the water tightness of the system.
Mains co rds:
The power cords delivered w ith this system have special properties for safety; they are not u ser serviceable. If the power cords a re
damaged, replace them only with new ones. Never try to repair a power cord.
LED s :
The LED s used on the R-series s heets are fragile. Never push with a hard or sharp object onto the lens of the LE D as this may
cause damage to the LED. The maximum allowed load upon the lens of the LE D is 300 gram/LED, but only a force perpendicular to
the s creen surface is allowed. Be careful when installing a shader upon the R-series sheet. Shaders t in one of tw o directions and
the orientation sh ould be veried before pushing into nal position. Use your bare ngers ( not nails) to press the shader over the
LEDs. Use your nger nails to press upon the framework of the shader between the LEDs (not upon the LEDs ) to pus h the shader
in its nal position.
Do not hot plug:
Do not hot plug any cables. Damage to the connector pins may occur. Re sulting dam age is not covered under warranty.
Base surface:
The R-Series LED sheets cannot be directly installed on the wall. An electrically grounded aluminium back plate must be
installed between that wall and the LED sheets.
To e nsure a correct thermal expansion (CTE) and electromagnetic c ompatibility (EM C), Barco provides a solution with Reynobond®
panels, a specic foam tape and various installation brackets. These optional parts are a dded externally to the certied R-series
product.
When not using this Barco verie d solution the following needs to be taken into account:
Only install base surfaces consisting of noncombustible material or self-extinguishing material.
Make sure the LED sheets a re not ac cessible for non-qualied personnel.
Makesuretoprovidesufcient extra mechanical safeties (e.g. safety cables) according to local regulations.
Loosening
4
R5906040 R-SERIES 16/02/2017
1. Safety & Environmental Information
If the LED screen would loosen from the back plate (for example, because of wrongfully used adhes ive or back plate), you m ust cut
the power to the LED screen.
In this case, let the LE D screen be repaired by qualied service personnel.
1.4 Proper usage
Proper usage of R-Series Products
No part of the R-series product can come in contact with any type of corrosive substance.
Using the R-series product in an en vironment with high corrosive gasses (e.g. Sulphur) can lead to discoloration of the materi-
als. This discoloration gives a change in brightness of the p roduct. This could lead to uniformity differences and possibly also
to failures. Each use of the product in this kind of environment needs to be checked up-front with the supplier.
R-series products are to be used in environments meeting the operating specic ations.
R-series products are not to be used in environments that are su bject to airborne contaminants such as that pr oduced by smoke
machines (cracked oil) or similar (these deposit a thin layer of greasy residue upon the LEDs optics, degrading performance).
R-series products are not to be exposed to ex treme localized heat or cold exceeding the tempe rature specic ations.
R-series products are n ot to be exposed to any element or s ituation that will cause any part of the display to heat beyond
what oc curs during normal operation. Such situations include but are not limited to lasers, ultrasonic vibration, or any type of
substance that prevents proper ventilation and heat radiation of the R-series sheets.
Power connected to the R-series products mu st meet the specications ou tlined in the installation manual.
Avoid any accidental bumping of the sheet edges while installing or removing the R-series products. S ince LEDs of the R-series
products are mounted close to the edges of the LED sheet, which is unavoidable in the design, the edges of the R-series
products become sensitive for mechanical damage. Th erefore it is required to handle the R-series products with care at all
times.
Never place an R-series produc t upon a surface with the LEDs facing dow nwards without protection. This to prevent dam age
to the LEDs.
R-series products which are not installed and which are not se curely stored in an R-series wooden crate (large sizes) or card-
board box (smaller s izes), may only be placed horizontally upon at surfaces free of clutter.
No force can be app lied to the LE Ds. Any LEDs damaged due to mechanical s tress are not covered by the warranty.
Safety and functional features of the screen may not be defeated.
Nothing is allowed to hang from the cables of an R-series produc t.
Any failures must be im mediately and appropriately dea lt with (equipment returned to Barco). Failing equipment cannot be left
to run in an LED screen.
No additional tools (ham me rs, pry-bars, etc.) are to be u sed to force LED produc
ts into place. All moving parts should be
managed by hand.
Only Barco cables specied to be used with the R-series pr oducts are to be used to connect components in the R -series s creen.
Further, care must be taken to connect signal only according to the installation manual.
R-series products are not to be used in the vicinity of any equipm ent that is not CE and UL/ETL certied.
R-series products are not to be transported for any distance in containers other than Barco wooden crates or Barco single unit
packaging. Further, even the use of Barco pac kaging material does not guarantee the R-series products against damage due to
excessive force of impacts. All warranty claims regarding damaged R-series products due to incorrect pac king will be rendered
invalid.
R-series products are not to be connected to any non-Barco equ
ipment.
When reconnecting compon ents in an R-series product, c are must be taken to ensure that cables are carefully routed according
to the installation man ual to prevent dam age to the cables or other parts of the R-series product.
R-series products can be cleaned only in ac cordance to the procedures dened in the R-series service manual.
Ensure rigging hardware is able to handle the weight o f the entire R-series products with appropriate safety factors.
External rigging hardware must be properly installed prior to hanging R-series products.
When lifting LED sheets, make sure to lift ev ery sheet in a symme trical way. The forces should be evenly distributed over the
whole width of the LED sheet. Asymmetrical load must be av oided at all time.
Check if every R-Series LED sheet in the s etup is used according to the wind speed table (see installation m anual). Contact
Barco if needed.
