Cavalry CAND Series

The Cavalry CAND Series is a high-performance network-attached storage (NAS) device designed for home and small office use. It features two drive bays that can accommodate SATA II hard drives, allowing you to store and access your data from anywhere with an internet connection.

With its powerful processor and ample memory, the CAND Series can handle even the most demanding tasks, such as streaming HD video or running multiple virtual machines. It also supports a variety of RAID configurations, so you can protect your data from drive failure.

CAUTION: This symbol is to remind you to pay attention and read carefully. Failure to do

NOTE: This symbol is used to provide you with useful information.

• Read through this entire manual and save for future reference.

• Place unit in a secure location to prevent being bumped or dropped.

• Do not place near a radiator or other heat sources.

• Do not use near water.

• Gaps and opening on the outer enclosure are intended to provide airow. Never

block or cover these openings or it may cause overheating.

• The unit must be grounded. It is equipped with a 3-wire, grounded power cable.

• Do not place where the cables could be stepped on.

• Unplug the power cable from the unit before cleaning. Keep the unit dry. Do not

use liquid cleaners, aerosol cleaners, or a wet cloth to clean.

Usage

ATTENTION: This guide will assist you in the operation of the product. For your

safety and to optimize your experience with this product, please reading this

entire manual before usage.

Getting Started

You will need (not included):

• Phillips-head screwdriver

• Two identical model SATA II hard drives

- Same manufacturer, capacity, cache, RPM, etc.

- Enclosure is not compatible with older PATA or IDE hard drives

• Power Adapter + Cord

• Ethernet Cable (RJ45)

Installation

WARNING

To reduce potentially damaging static discharge, do not work on carpeted oors. Touch

a safe metal object to release any static before handling the enclosure.

1. Remove the enclosure from the box.

2. Remove the the 4 rear screws with the screwdriver from the top and bottom sides

3. Slide the inner tray outwards towards the front.

NOTE

Faceplate screws are dierent from the enclosure screws. Keep them separate.

4. Unscrew the 4 screws from the top and bottom of the front faceplate.

5. Carefully remove the face plate from the tray and set it aside.

6. Inside the enclosure you will see a small power cable next to the fan. Plug the

cable into the white slot on the board.

7. Place the the two hard drives into the slots on the tray. Attach the power cables

and SATA cables into the hard drives. Use the SATA cable on the left side to attach

to the bottom drive. If necessary, slightly twist the cables to get the connector in

the correct oreientaiton.

8. Secure the hard drives into the tray with the included screws. 4 screws per drive.

9. Replace the faceplate on the front and secure with screws.

10. Slide the tray with the hard drives back into the enclosure and secure with the

screws.

11. Your CAND Series NAS unit is ready to be formatted.

Formatting

NOTE

For optimal security and convenience, we recommend designating a single computer

to handle all congurations.

NOTE

Formatting will completely erase all data on the hard drives.

1. Connect the power adapter to the NAS. Then plug the adapter into an electrical

outlet.

2. Turn on the power; the “Power” LED light will indicate the unit is on.

3. Insert the Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the back of the NAS and the other

end to an Ethernet port on your computer. (For the initial format, the unit must

be directly connected to the computer and not through a router. Future connec-

tions may be made through a router or hub).

Web-based GUI

1. The NAS conguration GUI can be accessed by typing the following into any web

browser.

http://cavalry/login.cgi or 192.168.1.1

2. When prompted, enter:

Username: admin

Password: admin

3. Select the desired le system and RAID conguration from the GUI. (The recom-

mended settings is

File System: EXT3

Conguration: RAID 1

4. Click “Create RAID System”

5. Formatting will take some time depending on the capacity of the hard drives.

Wait until the process has completed and make sure not to power o the unit.

6. The system will automatically restart once the process has been completed.

7. Upson seeing the login page, enter the username and password again.

8. Select Control Panel at the top of the page.

9. Select Maintenance from the menu on the left side of the screen.

10. Select RAID Settings to see the status of the nished array.

11. Power o theunit by holding down the power button for a few seconds until it

shuts down.

12. Refer to the CAND Series User’s Guide for complete instructions on operating the
