1 Welcome
1.1 Welcome
Thank you for choosing the ATEÏS UAP88 Universal Audio Processor.
The ATEÏS UAP88 Universal Audio Processor with the design/operating environment "Universal Audio
Processor System" enables to follow almost all requirements of modern sound Designs in many
applications. Create your Audio Processor with all the functionality you need in a flowchart-like graphical
Windows based design environment and transfer it to the UAP88. Once programmed the unit does not
require a PC anymore and can be run as a standalone processor.
Typical applications include installed sound systems, automatic mixing or routing, but also paging
functions, feedback-killer or speaker management.

The UAP88 holds 8 inputs, 8 outputs, all necessary A/D and D/A converters, logic and serial interface, a
DSP-processor and a microcontroller in a standard 19 single rack space housing.
To tell the machine what to do with audio and control signals there is a Windows based graphical design
and operating environment software called “Universal Audio Processor System". This software is divided
into different parts.
In the DSP Design” part you can create or edit the signal path and edit parameters in real time.
In the “Monitor” part you can pick out the parameters you want to be edited by the user and create an
individual graphical user interface. To keep your programming protected from unauthorized altering, there
are four password locked user levels.
The signal path of the UAP88 is built from virtual elements called “Components”. Components represent
the functionality of simple preamps, filters, dynamics, delays, or more complex processors like automatic
mixers, crossovers or feedback killer. They also include all the buttons, knobs, meters etc. to set the
desired values.
After selecting and placing all the “Components” you need, you have to “wire” them together, compile this
so called “Configuration” and send it to the UAP88 via the RS232 interface.
The “Preset” memory of the UAP88 stores up to 3 different “Configurations” which can be accessed over
the user interface on a PC or the logic inputs.
Once a “Configuration” is stored in the memory of the UAP88 you can disconnect your PC and run the
system as a standalone processor. You can still control parameters like “Channel Level”, “Master Volume
etc. from the eight assignable controls on the front panel of the unit.
The “Universal Audio Processor System" supplies also a “Language Editor” (easy localization of menus,
window titles, etc.), and a table containing the addresses of all the control parameters accessible via the
RS232 serial port. So the UAP88 integrates perfectly into third party control systems like AMX, Audace,
Crestron, etc.
All audio and control connections are made over 12 pole Euro-block connectors on the rear panel of the
UAP88. Every single analog audio input can be switched for line or mic level operation and for 48 V
phantom power.
The excellent sonic performance is being achieved by 24 bit AD/DA converters and 32-bit internal signal
processing. The internal sampling rate can be chosen to be either 48 kHz or 96 kHz.

1.5 About This Owner’s Manual
This Owner’s Manual contains all the basics you need to know for a proper installation of this product, and
for programming and operating the UAP88 Universal Audio Processor via the design/control environment
“Universal Audio Processor System”.
The UAP88 is still under further development, so functions may differ in actual behavior, or items be simply
not mentioned. We will add new features as soon as they are available and an updated Owner’s Manual
will be published on our webpage for download.
In this manual, the UAP88 Universal Audio Processor and its design/control environment software
“Universal Audio Processor System” are referred to as “UAP88” and “UAP System” respectively. “PC”
refers to an IBM PC-compatible computer running a Windows XP Home or Professional, or Windows 2000
Professional operating system.
Note: Windows XP and Windows 2000 are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
1.6 Installation of the UAP88
The “UAP88” takes only a single 19’’ rack space and generates little heat itself. Consider leaving enough
ventilation space above and below the unit (1 U recommended). Do not mount the UAP88 directly above
heat generating devices like power supplies or power amplifiers.

2.6 Upgrading and Reinstalling "Universal Audio Processor System"
2.6.1 Preparations
Before you can upgrade or reinstall “UAP System” you have to remove the older version from your
applications folder. To do this, follow these instructions:
Choose >Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double click the ‘Add or Remove Programs’ icon
Locate and choose ‘ATEIS UAP88 v1.x.x’ and click the ‘Remove’ button
Follow the instructions to remove the ‘ATEIS UAP88 v1.x.x’ software from your hard drive.
2.6.2 Upgrading "Universal Audio Processor System"
Proceed as stated in step 2.5 in this chapter. Upgrading to a higher version sometimes makes it necessary
to upgrade the UAP88’s MCU and DSP firmware also. Refer to the steps later in this manual.
2.7 Starting "Universal Audio Processor System"
Double click the 'ATEIS UAP88 v1.x.x' icon on your ‘Desktop’ or choose >Start > Programs > ATEIS >
ATEIS UAP88 v1.x.x
The program starts offline with a new configuration in edit mode. A connection to the UAP88 is not
necessary to run the program, or to create a Configuration or a User Interface. You can start to familiarize
with all the windows and menus. Refer to the specific chapters in this manual.
2.8 Quitting "Universal Audio Processor System"
Quit the program selecting the menu >File > Exit. If no window contains unsaved changes all the windows
close and “UAP System” quits.
If there are unsaved changes a dialog box will ask you if you want to save or ignore changes you have
made to the “Configuration” or the “Preset” or if you want to cancel the exit command.
You can also exit the program using the Windows Exit Button in the Title Window, or by pressing the
short key [alt F4]
