The UAP88 holds 8 inputs, 8 outputs, all necessary A/D and D/A converters, logic and serial interface, a
DSP-processor and a microcontroller in a standard 19” single rack space housing.
To tell the machine what to do with audio and control signals there is a Windows based graphical design
and operating environment software called “Universal Audio Processor System". This software is divided
into different parts.
In the “DSP Design” part you can create or edit the signal path and edit parameters in real time.
In the “Monitor” part you can pick out the parameters you want to be edited by the user and create an
individual graphical user interface. To keep your programming protected from unauthorized altering, there
are four password locked user levels.
The signal path of the UAP88 is built from virtual elements called “Components”. Components represent
the functionality of simple preamps, filters, dynamics, delays, or more complex processors like automatic
mixers, crossovers or feedback killer. They also include all the buttons, knobs, meters etc. to set the
desired values.
After selecting and placing all the “Components” you need, you have to “wire” them together, compile this
so called “Configuration” and send it to the UAP88 via the RS232 interface.
The “Preset” memory of the UAP88 stores up to 3 different “Configurations” which can be accessed over
the user interface on a PC or the logic inputs.
Once a “Configuration” is stored in the memory of the UAP88 you can disconnect your PC and run the
system as a standalone processor. You can still control parameters like “Channel Level”, “Master Volume”
etc. from the eight assignable controls on the front panel of the unit.
The “Universal Audio Processor System" supplies also a “Language Editor” (easy localization of menus,
window titles, etc.), and a table containing the addresses of all the control parameters accessible via the
RS232 serial port. So the UAP88 integrates perfectly into third party control systems like AMX, Audace,
Crestron, etc.
All audio and control connections are made over 12 pole Euro-block connectors on the rear panel of the
UAP88. Every single analog audio input can be switched for line or mic level operation and for 48 V
phantom power.
The excellent sonic performance is being achieved by 24 bit AD/DA converters and 32-bit internal signal
processing. The internal sampling rate can be chosen to be either 48 kHz or 96 kHz.
