Overview.
X-Treme Modular Line loudspeakers are
especially suitable for indoor musical events
in pubs, live-cafes or clubs.
The line consists of 5 models that allow
different solutions. The devices, used in this
line, are high quality devices as neodymium
magnet transducers and the coil is winded on
a kapton former. Crossover filters are
particularly selective so as to obtain more
natural timbre feature at medium frequency
band, important in voice and singing
intelligibility, or rather in excellent sound and
music clearness.
DSP (Digital Signal Processor) biamplified
systems are designed with “Preset” for each
system configuration
The cabinet, showing reduced dimensions
and low weight, is made with a 3/4” (19 mm)
Birch plywood to paint with a special
bicomponent anti-scratch paint to render it
particularly resistant to any weather
conditions.

The configuration “Sat+Sub”, composed of
two systems XTQ12 and XTSQ15, XTQ15
and XTSQ18 allows to obtain an extended
and complete frequency response, enriched
at lower frequencies.

Stacking on floor are usually made positions
loudspeakers one up one. In this case there
are “coupling effect” on middle-high frequency
band and increase vertical directivity and
enable a perfect angular coverage. Quality
and limited dimensional in comparison with
loudspeakers power make Modular Line
loudspeakers specially recommended for
difficult acoustic environment.
Safety instructions.
It is important that loudspeaker systems are
used in a safe manner. Professional
loudspeakers are capable of producing
extremely high sound levels and should be
used with care. Hearing loss is cumulative
and can result from levels above 90 dB, if
people are exposed for a long period. Never
stand close to loudspeakers driven at high
level. In case of ground stacking, ensure that
the floor or stage is level and solid. Do not
ground stack speakers too high, in outdoor
applications, where wind could topple the
stack. Flying systems should only be
assembled from trained and experienced
crew, working in association with professional
riggers.
Stacked or flown.
Although flown systems are generally
preferred by most sound engineers, there are
good arguments to support both solutions. In
many cases the answer is dictated by logistic
constraints that are venue-specific, i.e.,
sometimes it isn’t simply possible to fly PA.
Stacking on stage lowers the perceived sound
image to stage level, which is beneficial in
small venues. Stacking also offers more low
frequency SPL due to enhanced floor
coupling. Flying system is the best solution to
achieve uniform sound pressure level and
even tonal balance over the entire audience,
provided that the number of elements arrayed
is sufficient to provide the necessary
coverage.

Stacking Guidelines.
The designer need to know if the audience is
standing or seated; if used in flown system
the bottom of the array or cluster should
always be higher than the ears of the first
rows of the audience. If the bottom of the
array is too low, the first rows receive too
much SPL and audience members directly in
front of the system behave as an acoustic
screen for the following rows.
Subwoofers.
Subwoofers are used to extend the frequency
response of the “full range” base system
XTQ12, XTQ15, XTQ300 down to 35 Hz and
to increase the overall SPL without increasing
the potential for audience hearing loss.
General guidelines for the use of
subwoofers.
The number of subwoofers to be used
depends on 3 parameters.
1) Number of XTQ12, XTQ15 o XTQ300
elements.
The standard recommended number of
XTQS15 or XTQS18 subwoofers corresponds
to 1:1 ratio (see XTQ12 + XTSQ15, XTQ15
+XTSQ18 or XTQ300 + XTSQ15 configurat-
ions).
2) Type of musical event to reproduce.
Standard subwoofer ratios are recommended
for classical music or corporate events. For
those applications, subwoofers act as a
low frequency extension for base systems
and provide approximately 6 dB of low
frequency contour. In this case, the overall
system behaves as an extended bandwidth
3-way system in biamplification.
For live applications with rock music sound
reinforcement, the configuration with XTQ12
and XTQ15 and with two XTSQ15 o XTSQ18
subwoofers can be used.
3) Location or installation types.
In outdoor applications, when subwoofers are
located on the ground, the ratio remains
unchanged.
Amplification.
Modular Line loudspeakers are designed to
be used with professional power amplifiers,
able to produce the following output power:
XTQ300
XTQ12
XTQ15
XTSQ15
XTSQ18
full range: 500 W (@ 8 Ohm)
full range: 450 W (@ 8 Ohm)
full range: 600 W (@ 8 Ohm)
subwoofer: 1000 W (@ 8 Ohm)
subwoofer: 1000 W (@ 8 Ohm)
Particular attention will have to be paid to
avoid amplifier clipping. It is important
to underscore that a sub-dimensioned power
amplifier could easily reach clipping,
particularly damaging phenomenon, whether
for acoustic and psychoacoustic reasons or
for electronic causes. In musical field, we
must underline that signals have a high
dynamic content and a power amplifier could
operate in saturation region, just introducing
signal clipping, or rather a non linear signal
distortion. In those conditions, power amplifier
will produce more power in comparison with
nominal undistorted condition. The use of
power amplifier with output power higher than
the recommended output power is unsuitable,
too. We have also to avoid in electronic
devices switching bursts, that could cause
instantaneous peaks higher than the
loudspeaker instantaneous power.

When you supply power to an electroacoustic
system, it is important to switch on the power
amplifier after switching on mixer and control
electronics. To switch off the system, you will
have to follow the inverse sequence, first
switching off power amplifiers.
Connections.

Cable lengths.
When you connect a loudspeaker to a power
amplifier, we recommend that the electric
resistance of the cable is below a tenth of the
nominal impedance of one loudspeaker or of
the loudspeakers in parallel. The following
table provides an indication about the
maximum allowed length for different
conductors with different sections.

System configurations.
Modular Line loudspeakers can be used with
analog controllers by which it is possible to set
a specific equalization, X-over frequency and
limiter functions. More complex set-up could
be obtained by the use of DSP. Modular Line
systems can be controlled by Digital Speaker
Management System XT266 or by any
professional digital controller. Whatever
controller you use, it is important that limiters
are set with very fast attack to prevent
amplifier clipping. This fact demands that
limiter threshold of the control device is
consistent with amplifier sensitivity. Such a
working system, with power amplifiers of
recommended output power and used by
technical specialist, appears to be protected
from “over-utilization”. We suggest to refer to
used controller manual to have more
informations about setting of limiter threshold.
Modular Line loudspeakers, controlled by a
properly set controller, show an essentially
linear on-axis frequency response. About
XTSQ15 e XTSQ18 subwoofers, we suggest
to use a X-over frequency between 90 Hz and
110 Hz. Whenever it is necessary, you can
utilize equalizations for compensating
particular environmental acoustical conditions.
