Instruction
Tool for in-situ replacement of main bearings on SMC/HPC/TSMC
reciprocating compressors, part number 3183.176
Disassemble and Assembly a main bearing:
Nut for drive shaft
Short drive shaft.
Long drive shaft.
POM disc.
Steel disc.
Drive shaft.
Extractor pump end.
Extractor shaft seal end.
Pressure distributor.
Plug for Pressure distributor.

1. Main bearing, Pump end
2. Place the pressure distributor on the pump end (left picture shows pressure distributor with plug,
right picture shows bearing cover pump end, with pressure distributor mounted.

3. Mount the extractor plate as
shown in the picture.
Tighten the bolts with 55Nm

Always smear the Thread with
Molycote grease or similar lubricant

IMPORTANT!!
It is advisable to heat up the area surrounding the old bearing, with a small acetylene burner,
to soften the old Loctite, which holds the old bearing in place, before adding pressure onto
the bearing.
5. Screw the drive shaft into the
Extractor plate, turning
clockwise.
6. Extract the old bearing by turning the
drive shaft clockwise into the extractor.

Mounting a new bearing:
1. Start by letting the extractor plate
sit in the same position, as when
you removed the old bearing.
2. Start by assemble the fitting tool, it is
important, that the nut is screwed in, until
it sit´s firmly on the short drive shaft.
Do not tighten with wrenches.

4. Remember to use Loctite on the
outside diameter of the bearing.
3. Position the new bearing into the pump
end.

5. Position the mounting tool, and screw
it onto the driveshaft, turning clockwise.
6. Until it sit´s firmly onto the driveshaft.

7. Tighten the two drive shafts together,
just so they touch each other, before the
bearing is screwed in.
8. Screw the new bearing into position,
turn anticlockwise until it sit´s firmly on
the bearing cover.

9. And tighten to specified torque, 125Nm
always check that the bearing is correct
positioned against the pump cover,
before removing fitting tool.
10. The bearing at pump end is now
mounted.

Disassemble the main bearing at shaft seal side:
1. Tool´s used for main bearing
change, at shaft seal end.
Extractor plate
Drive shaft.
REMARK: here is the long
type drive shaft used.
Nut.
Plug for distributor plate.
POM disc.
Pressure distributor plate.
Steel disc.
2. Main bearing seen here, without
crankshaft mounted.

3. Position the pressure distributor plate,
with the plug onto the bearing.

5. Mount the extractor plate

bearing out, by turning clockwise.

1. Make sure that the drive shaft
is screwed almost to the end of
the thread before moving on.
2. When assembling the fitting tool it is
important, that the nut is screwed in, until
it sit´s firmly on the long drive shaft.
Do not tighten with wrenches.

3. Position the new bearing onto the
shaft seal end cover.
4. Mount the fitting tool onto the
drive shaft

5. Remember to use Loctite on the
outside diameter of the bearing.
6. Tighten the two drive shafts together,
just so they touch each other, before the
bearing is screwed in.

Now remove the tool, bear in mind that you must not drop the mounting tool
onto the new bearing internal surface, otherwise you will damage the surface.
